- Outcome of the update: SUCCESSFUL

- DSM version prior update: 6.2-23739

- Loader version and model: JUN'S LOADER v1.03b - DS3617xs

- Using custom extra.lzma: NO

- Installation type: BAREMETAL - Asrock J4205-ITX, CSM enabled (no UEFI), added a two port ASM1061 Sata card to PCIE X1 slot

- Additional comments: Hanged, but boot pendrive re-flash fixed it. H/W video transcoding does NOT works. iGPU isn't loading.

Spoiler

System is working fine with 6.2-23739 Update 2, video transcoding also tested and working as expected with H/W acceleation (using valid serial from my old Synology DS214).

However I had a strange issue with my usb pendrive used for boot drive while tinkering with system updates and different versions.

Symptoms: Happened a few times, NAS was inaccessible through network. No DHCP lease requested from the router (I kept my eye on the DHCP server). I attached a monitor so I see the bootloader. The cursor was not blinking here! Tried both UEFI (CSM disabled) and Legacy mode (CSM enabled) in my BIOS.

Possible root cause: If the system turned off inproperly (power loss OR shutdown with power button kept pressed), somehow the content of the boot drive damaged. It happened with a pure new 8GB Sandisk and an old 1GB Kingston pendrive too.

Solution: Re-flash the boot image to your boot drive. Seriously! 😃 I was using Rufus v3.3 on a Windows machine. CSM is enabled in my BIOS. System boots in two minutes, DHCP lease requested, machine accessible with browser. I see that the cursor is blinking in the bootloader (important: CSM enabled) on my monitor attached to the NAS.

Idea for a workaround: I will try to flash the boot image to an SD card with a read-only switch. After the flash I will set the switch to read-only. I will try this out soon and will let you know the results here.

It may be helpful for somebody with similar issue.

My BIOS settings: C1E disabled, SpeedStep disabled. Power mode: Sport, CSM enabled.

EDIT:124

And I migrated for those who wonder it is that I think (maybe wrongly) that my hardware is closer to 3617 especially at the cpu level but does 3617 use 4 cpu and 3615 2cpu there was part of the question because mine i5@760 has 4 then what is then between ds3615 or 3617 who manages it best... and out of curiosity ,especially out of curiosity ! :)
