Sonnyboy666 Posted July 10, 2018 Share #1 Posted July 10, 2018 (edited) Hello, I am very interested in the new DSM 6.2 loader by Jun. I read the posts in the Developer section but i must admit that i am not a great linux specialist. So i am not undestanding erverything. Just a simple question: Is it possible to run DSM 6.2 with Jun's new 1.03a2 loader , baremetal, on a DELL PowerEdge T30 with an Intel Xeon E3-1225 v5, 4x 3.30GHz? LAN is an Intel i219. Thank you for your suggestions. Greetings, Sonnyboy Edited July 10, 2018 by Sonnyboy666

IG-88 Posted July 10, 2018 Share #3 Posted July 10, 2018 just to show you how you can estimate it Xeon E3-1225 v5 -> Skylake, reported to work (4th gen intel core aka Haswell seems min.) i219 -> igb.ko is igb.ko part of the loader? yes it is already in dsm (rd.gz) itself and so its part of juns loader 1.03a2 Storage? -> specs of hardware from dell or 3rd party site -> 4 x AHCI -> ahci is nativ part of DSM/synology kernel ----> processor, nic and storage ok, so it should work i also added your cpu to the supported list, if you successful tried video hardware acceleration transcoding (your cpu has quick sync video and might support it) write about it here,
Sonnyboy666 Posted July 11, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted July 11, 2018 Thank you very much IG-88 for your detailed description! Yes, it works really well. Running about 24 hours now. And yes, hardware acceleration works well under Plex. Should I test the Synology Videostation also?
Dark Zydor Posted July 11, 2018 Share #5 Posted July 11, 2018 I would be interested by the result of a videostation hardware transcoding test. I personally get this behaviour with videostation and DSM 6.2 : - without transcoding option, transcoding works fine - with transcoding option, transcoding starts and works maybee 15 seconds. Then, DSM freezes and reboots.
Sonnyboy666 Posted July 11, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted July 11, 2018 Installed the Videostation and for me it is working. The movie ran about 3 minutes without any problems. Do you have a valid serial number? I read this might be a problem?
Dark Zydor Posted July 11, 2018 Share #7 Posted July 11, 2018 Yes, I have a valid serial number. Without a valid one, transcoding do not work neither with nor without hardware acceleration. Thank you for this information.

I think this is an older model, so it will not work with the 918+ image. But you might try the DS3615xs/DS3617xs images.

It will not work on ds918+ But it works on DS3617 I have one running now, you must install a Intel nic for it to work since the drivers for the stock nic don't work with loader 1.03b 6.2 untill we get a extra.lzma . Hi, can you please remind me the procedure to update the loader? I have a Dell T20 (E3-1225v3 and Intel I217LM) running DSM 6.1.5-15254 with a lot of stuff on it and I would like to be as sure as possible
smoothmove Posted May 2, 2020 Share #13 Posted May 2, 2020 (edited) Thread back from the dead. For reference I just picked up an ebay Dell T30 with the same specs. It will take 1.04b boot loader with the 918+ 6.2 - 24922. The 3617 works with 1.02b and 6.1.7-15284 update 3. I tried the newer DSM's fro the 3615 and 3617 with no luck. Sorry to raise from the dead, but we are in quarantine. Edited May 2, 2020 by smoothmove

smoothmove Posted May 2, 2020 Share #15 Posted May 2, 2020 (edited) I didn't know that about transcoding. Thank you. I would have been aggravated if I tried it and it was slow. I am going to end up using the 918+ DSM now due to the information update. I am getting older and don't want to play to get it to work. I just want it to work. I may play around with 1.03b in legacy mode to see if it takes the install. I am using a second Dell T30 with Hackintosh as my main rig. Currently using it for Plex with a E3 1245 V5. 918+ with 1.04b seems to work with every machine I have tried it on. smoothmove Posted May 4, 2020 Share #16 Posted May 4, 2020 (edited) UEFI changed to legacy and now it takes all variants (918, 3615 and 3617) and I updated to 24922 using the 3617. Thank you. It has taken three days to copy movies over, so far. 30tb takes a while Edited May 4, 2020 by smoothmove
