Progress of 6.2 loader

Message added by Polanskiman

Let me get things straighten up here before this thread starts going sideways. This is the developper discussion room. Not a newbie forum to start asking for guides and whatnot. @jun hasn't even said anything about the loader he has uploaded to his repository. So I would advise self control. Also, to those in panic mode trying to make things work desperately please use your personal jugement and experience. If you want to have a positive contribution to this thread then please do so by posting about possible bugs or things that don't work (beyond the "no network" boring posts of course). I am talking about serious bugs or the such. All other requests will from now on be deleted or moved if appropriate. I have no time to babysit anymore. Use the forum subsections.

Not all is lost my friend, there is always FreeNas, OpenMedia Vault.  Which are very good also....

Don't feel bad I bought a Dell T1700 and it won't work with the latest loader and I have the proper hardware.

So i'm using loader 1.02b on it for now...till there is a fix ...

Yeah I agree and it cant hurt to learn the others as well, but you get used to a certain way of doing things :) Sorry to hear about the Dell, have you tried @IG-88 extra drivers?

Hi to all.

Need help

Motherboard Asrok j3455 ITX

Loader 918

DSM 6.2-23739 Update 2

Download speed 630 KB Download speed at NAS 6.3 MB The speed of the ports port on a laptop is 100 MB 4 drives in raid 10

With a 3617 boot loader there is no such problem.

Who has such a motherboard and everything works okay, perhaps a problem in the bios. Could someone tell what parameters should be set, that the key to turn off. I want to use a 918 loader model, specifically buying a motherboard for it.

No joy for me either on 1.03a

It is an old test machine (old Dell desktop) so its CPU is waaaaay older than Haswell.

Worked fine as a test machine in the past, but I guess I'll wait until this has broader CPU support before testing again!

Won't be anywhere near my 'production' NAS boxes on DS3615 and 2x DS3617 for a while yet!  😕

Thanks for all your efforts, guys!

Good night and good luck.

P.S - Thank you again Jun!! 😁

Jun, thank you for 1.03b. I will try on an HP Gen10 this evening.

Hej Jun,

as promised i tried a install on a blank drive on my HP MicroServer Gen10. The System booted to grub selection screen, after selecting 3615 it shows the intro screen, but without the part after "...http://find.synology.com to continue" (the working 1.02b did not show the following text either). The Gen10 uses a Broadcom 5720 NIC, which is listed on 1.03a2 driver list, so it should be compatible.

Since neither the 1.03b DS3615 nor the DS3617 finds disk for installation (SATA, SCSI, BusLogic, LSILogic ...) I have tried the 1.03a2 DS 918+ bootimage and this finds immediatly any disk and everything worked. Complete installation with 6.2 update 2 applied, installed packages etc.

I was using VMware hosts with HW compatibility v12 and v14. I only got the v103a2 DS918+ to run.

Could it be, that in the new 1.03b boot images there are some disk controller/driver missing which are available in the older boot images and in the 1.03a2?

I got always the error 38 and in the web install UI is says that it does not find any disk, whatever I have tried the whole evening.

I have testet it with my HP Microserver Gen8 and ESXi 6.7!

Coming from the older Loader 1.02b for DS3617xs. Boot up with the new Loader hangs within "Screen will stop updating shortly....".

But after that i can find the DS3617xs under find.synology.com for migration!

Started the manually update with the newest pat but ended in error 13!

Have a IBM1015 in IT Mode (LSI9211-8i) and with PCIe Passtrough.

Tested the new loader (Thanks Jun) with my crappy old Dell desktop (as above).

Same serial and MAC as used for above. Planning to install DS3617 image, so using that 1.03b loader..

Boots fine, gets IP Address OK..

It even finds my old DS3615 install on it.. This is gonna be interesting.

Selected a fresh install of DS3617 DSM and installed the new PAT file (without update 2) DSM 6.2-23739

Booted fine.. Even had my customizations still in place (wallpaper, login banner and text).

Installed update 2 from web and rebooted.

Updated fine - even had all my old test data in place..

Tested Write/Read..

112MB/s both ways on GBEthernet..

Superb work as always Jun.. 🤘

Will be doing some more testing before upgrading my main boxes but this is looking excellent!!  :D

Error 13 means PID and VID are incorrect.

When you download the image, you need to edit grub.cfg to have the correct VID and PID values before you make the USB using Rufus.

Obtain values as show here http://xpenology.me/how-to-see-the-value-of-my-vid-pid-stick/

Edit them as shown here on Point 5 https://xpenology.club/installmigrate-dsm-5-2-to-6-0-juns-loader/ Good luck, let me know how it goes.

Just want to confirm the upgrade path. My understanding is basically:

1. Shutdown my current DSM 6.1 server

2. Make a fresh USB boot loader with the 1.03b loader

3. Boot up and find the synology server

4. Specify the PAT file 6.2 manually

5. DSM will find my previous 6.1 install and migrate it

Does this sound right?

I've been using it for about a year now but this is the first time I actually have two change the boot loader.

Thanks :)

Has anybody tried to setup a VMware host with 1.03b either 3615 or 3617? Seems that some physical host are able to update or do a fresh install but I did not manage to install it with any VMware configuration, it starts the installation but after network setting and starting to format the system partition, it always ends up with error code 38 or in the web install windows it says no disk found. I can select whatever disk mode is available (SATA, SCSI Buslogic, LSIlogic) it never found a disk. The same with the 1.03a2 boot image for 918+ works.

Anybody has any ideas?

Change the firmware in advanced options tab from EFI to BIOS.

Loader DS3617 1.03b on a Dell R410 on board Network not working guess drivers are missing, I added an Intel dual lan card and I was able to update the system.

to the latest 6.2-23739 update 2.
