Progress of 6.2 loader

Message added by Polanskiman

Let me get things straighten up here before this thread starts going sideways. This is the developper discussion room. Not a newbie forum to start asking for guides and whatnot. @jun hasn't even said anything about the loader he has uploaded to his repository. So I would advise self control. Also, to those in panic mode trying to make things work desperately please use your personal jugement and experience. If you want to have a positive contribution to this thread then please do so by posting about possible bugs or things that don't work (beyond the "no network" boring posts of course). I am talking about serious bugs or the such. All other requests will from now on be deleted or moved if appropriate. I have no time to babysit anymore. Use the forum subsections.

Unable to discover it and not showing on my network.  I have tried both the baremetal and VMware options from the Grub loader.

Processor: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2665 0 @ 2.40GHz

ESXI Version: 6.7

Host Config:

SATA Controller

e1000e Network Card

50mb boot (SATA0)

16gb test drive (SATA1)

please be more specific about what chip the nic is, at least the i217 seems to be a problem

if you cant check about the chip please give the product name of the nic or the system board (if its onboard)

It is using one of the internal Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet BCM5720 NICs and ESXI is emulating an e1000e.  I will go back and try the VMXNET3.

BCM5720 would be tg3 driver and thats part of juns extra.lzma. so the nic should work in baremetal

BUT you cpu is sandy bridge and that did not work with desktop processors on 918+ image so i'd expect it to fail because of the cpu (see my cpu list on page 5)

I have actually gotten the NIC to show up on my switch, but it didn't get an IP address.  To get it to show up I switched from BIOS to EFI in the VMWare loader.  I am wondering if I am seeing the NIC register because of the way it is handled with EFI.

what is not clear to me is if the cpu is currently not supported, it might be with an update of the loader (maybe based on bromolow like the previous one) or are we completely cut out?

its about the original kernel used in the loader, its compiled with settings by synology to have a good support/performance with the used 918+ hardware (J3455), not to have a wide range of other hardware supported

as jun's approach is to use the kernel and dsm unmodded and circumvent the protection (check for certain hardware presence, signed drivers) we will have to live with the limits of the original kernel (among others no explicit amd cpu support, no hyper-v support), so the list about supported cpu's is for finding out where the limits are (drivers in most cases can be fixed, missing kernel option that need to be compiled into the kernel can't)

i started the cpu list because jun stated in his comments to 1.03a2 that its unknown for now what will be supported and also on what happened with the 1.02 916+ image, nobody could really say in what hardware the quick sync video transcoding support would work, we knew  min. 4th gen intel core to boot from jun an no one documented about the transcoding

as the 918+ has a newer kernel 4.x (and hopefully will support more hardware then the old kernel) i'm kind of "count me in" for the 918+

if you look into the 3615/3617 dsm 6.2 images you will see they still use the old 3.x kernel so no improvements are to expect in this area, kind of dead end as long as we find somone fixing the sata_ * and pata_* driver issue in the synology source (maybe we will have the same in kernel 4.x, we will soon find out)

Good afternoon.
Sorry for my English.
I run dsm 6.2 XPEnology on Thecus_n2800.
Synology Assistant - the device in the network sees, offers migration.

Formatting and partitioning of the disk is in progress. Splits the disk into 3 sections.
2 sections of 2 gigas each.
1 partition is the remaining space on the disk under the repository.

But.
DSM_DS918 + _23739.pat is not installed
The installation goes up to 57%, then an error message appears. (13)

installed and running XPEnoboot_DS3615xs_5.2

*ASROCK Q1900 ITX

#Intel J1900

tested to boot: NotWorking

Unbenannt.png

If no hard disk was connected (only the USB stick) then SynologyAssistant finds the server and the further installation fails because of the missing hard disk.

Once a SATA hard drive is connected at boot, the server can no longer be found by Synology Assistant

So is there a driver problem here?

Hello, sorry for my bad english...

My ds3617xs on my ESXI 6.5 work very well with DSM 6.1.7-15284

But DS918+ dont have any ip adress with DSM 6.2 (E1000 or VMNEXT3).

My ESXI is a PowerEdge R710 (Old server of my office ;-))

his NIC is

QLogic Corporation QLogic NetXtreme II BCM5709 1000Base-T

Good luck to run DSM 6.2...

Bye

Julien

I run dsm 6.2 XPEnology on Thecus_n2800.
Synology Assistant - the device in the network sees, offers migration.

Formatting and partitioning of the disk is in progress. Splits the disk into 3 sections.
2 sections of 2 gigas each.
1 partition is the remaining space on the disk under the repository.

But.
DSM_DS918 + _23739.pat is not installed
The installation goes up to 57%, then an error message appears. (13)

i've see that with my Avoton C2550 cpu too, everything was right (usb vid/pid) but install failed, so i did tried the same usb flash drive with a skylake system and after insalling i connected the disk and usb flash drive to to the avoton system and it came up nicely

your cpu is older then the avoton, its Cedarview Q3/2011, your nic is e1000 driver and thats inside juns loader already, so maybe it will work if you install it on a different system and then use the disk on the thecus, as this is pretty early i would not advise to do it on a system you need for daily use, it could be that if a update comes up that it will not install cleanly, we would need more time to see waht happens with major updates like 6.2.(0)->6.2.1

If no hard disk was connected (only the USB stick) then SynologyAssistant finds the server and the further installation fails because of the missing hard disk.

Once a SATA hard drive is connected at boot, the server can no longer be found by Synology Assistant

So is there a driver problem here?

hmm, the fact that it coems up without a disc idicates the kernel and realtek network driver are working,, that board has 2x intel onboard (ahci) and 2 ports ASMedia ASM1061, also ahci with kernel 4.x (https://cateee.net/lkddb/web-lkddb/SATA_AHCI.html)

maybe you can try disabling the asmedia in bios for testing? or try installing 6.2 on a different system and after installing use flash drive and hdd on th Q1900

My ds3617xs on my ESXI 6.5 work very well with DSM 6.1.7-15284

But DS918+ dont have any ip adress with DSM 6.2 (E1000 or VMNEXT3).

My ESXI is a PowerEdge R710 (Old server of my office ;-))

his NIC is

QLogic Corporation QLogic NetXtreme II BCM5709 1000Base-T

the nic might be a problem in barematal as jun does no provide all firmware files in his extra.lzma but in vm it not relevant, if you use vmxnet then there is a driver in juns extra.lzma

the processor might be the problem if it E5520 or simmilar the its Nehalem EP Q1/2009 and thats way older then the 4th gen intel core desktop cpu we have found as working min, yet (see my list on page 5), so not likely to work (on the other hand no gain with 918+ image, dsm 6.1 works stable so why using 6.2, nothing to win a lot to loose)

try to disable/remove all adaters, just leave one active and try with just one and if it fails try with another

I disabled/removed each adapter one at a time.  With the Ugreen using the RealTek RTL8111G chip, the boot process proceeded a little further.  I still get the crash at the start but modules continuing loadiing.  It loads OK the " :: Loading modul[    6.349374] e1000: Intel(R) PRO/1000 Network Driver - version 7.3.21-k8-NAPI [    6.357725] e1000: Copyright (c) 1999-2006 Intel Corporation. e e1000 ... does it show up in network after loading the realtek driver?

No, as I don't think the boot process completed correctly.  Usually, with a normal boot using the older 6.1 DS3617xs image the boot completes with "Diskstation Login".  At that point I can login through the serial port.   When booting the 918+ image it has problems with one module and performs a trace, the boot continues and states network modules are loading ok but the boot process stops at the Loading module synobios ... does not complete to "Diskstation Login".

I disabled both internal NIC's and I installed another network card which has a Realtek RTL8111E chip.  Same results.  I can't determine what module the boot process is having a problem with.  Thanks for your help.

you don't write anything about your hardware, at least cpu should be mentioned

you can activate root (as user), use the search, beside this whats wrong with sudo or just once sudo su

I did not know there was a specific criteria required? I see people posting what they think they should?  Tell me what you want and I will, no need to get sassy

It's on a j3455

I should have been more specific.  The patch changes max disk to 12 and adds an additional 4 disks to internalportcfg but that's still 8.  The reason I asked was because when I did a remap of the first disk it didn't show up which was even more confusing.  Additionally, sataportmap is only set to 4.  0c will kernel panic

I thought this was a dev forum where people can come and complain about the new awesomely annoying "Features" Synology added?

if you are referring to synouser? that longer works by itself, have to do more, the one I picked was to add no NOPASSWD but that means no pass prompt on sudo su.

Going back as why not just ...It's really just a matter of convenience with winscp.

918+ has a lot more goodies, you know that.
