longcat Posted April 30, 2018 Share #1 Posted April 30, 2018 (edited) Hello XPEnology Community! I'm using XPEnology for quiet a while now and I just love it^^ A big shoutout to all the developers I'm really happy with my current build but it's really power consuming (~130W) and kinda overkill... I just store my data there, Plex (without Transcoding) and some small automatic backups with Hyper Backup. My current build (A old PC that's now my NAS): Gigabyte GA-H55M-USB3 (rev. 2.0) Intel i7 870 8 GB RAM IBM Raid-Controller M1015 (IT-Mode) -> SAS-HDDs (currently 4x2TB RAID 5) DSM 6.1.6-15266 Update 1 (Jun's Bootloader 1.02b ds3617) I just checked the web for some mainboards that have an integrated CPU because I want to get really low with the power consumption since it's running 24/7. And yea I found this board: http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/QC5000M-ITXPH/ It has an PCI Slot for the Raid Contoller and it supports the RAM that I'm currently using Now the question is if it will run with XPEnology and if it will be strong enought for me? Maybe someone could help me I'm also open for other suggestions (I just went for this mainboard because it's cheap and it sounds "okay" for the price). Thanks in advance and have a great day! longcat Edited April 30, 2018 by longcat

sbv3000 Posted April 30, 2018 Share #3 Posted April 30, 2018 I have previously run XPE/DSM 6 on a biostar a68n-5000 which is just about identical to the asrock one you listed and it worked fine, but I guess you are aware that AMD is not officially 'supported' with 6.1.x You could have a look at the asrock intel on board for similar spec, memory compatibility, one of my production boxes is an asrock j3455m
longcat Posted April 30, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted April 30, 2018 (edited) Thanks for the fast reply! The Asrock J3455M sounds really great What are you doing with your Asrock box? Similar stuff like me or even more? And how's the power consumption?^^ Just asking to be sure Edited April 30, 2018 by longcat
sbv3000 Posted May 2, 2018 Share #5 Posted May 2, 2018 This is my main production box with 6 HDD (3TB 7200rpm) which has all my video, music, data etc plus an ESX NFS share. Media server streaming 4k. It works really well imho To be honest I've not measured the power use as the HDDs probably take most.

That's insane I already ordered it one day after you replied and it arrived today Do you think I can move my current HDDs and Boot-USB to my new setup without reinstalling DSM? So I don't have to move my files to another location and then back again. Or would it be better to do a complete reinstall? Would be great if I just can go and replace the motherboard and replug my current stuff Thank you very much! You helped me alot
sbv3000 Posted May 3, 2018 Share #8 Posted May 3, 2018 You should be able to move your drives and boot usb and it will all work, but I would do a hardware test first and also a full data backup
longcat Posted May 4, 2018 Author Share #9 Posted May 4, 2018 (edited) Sounds great! I also should not forget to replace the MAC-Address of my NIC with the new one in the grub.cfg right? I will let you know if it worked Thanks! Edited May 4, 2018 by longcat
sbv3000 Posted May 4, 2018 Share #10 Posted May 4, 2018 correct, you should update your mac address settings.
longcat Posted May 5, 2018 Author Share #11 Posted May 5, 2018 (edited) Alright first I made a full backup of my system and then I replaced the motherboard and just reconnected everything and boom all the stuff is running as before Nice! The power consumtion went down from ~130W to ~80W. I think that's fair enough Thank you for your help! longcat Edit: I also changed the Mac-Address with the grub command-line before the first boot!
