viper359 Posted March 31, 2018 Share #1 Posted March 31, 2018 OK, I am having a total brain fart here. I am rebuilding a DSM for a buddy who lost 3 drives at once. So everything is being rebuilt from scratch. I cannot remember, if I do a direct install of 6.1, will I be able to access the conf file before setting up the drives, so I can select SHR, or, will I have to install DSM 5.0, setup the SHR, build the array, and then update to 6? I am getting too old.
abced Posted April 1, 2018 Share #2 Posted April 1, 2018 After you setup DSM, just login to SSH and do your changes. You don't need to make any volumes before.
sbv3000 Posted April 2, 2018 Share #3 Posted April 2, 2018 DSM6.x defaults to disk/raid groups and volumes rather than shr, clean install with 3 drives the same size, just stick with btfrs/disk group. check the faq for re-enabling shr in the config via ssh for example if you have different size drives, which is what @abced is referring to.
