foo76 Posted February 16, 2018 Share #1 Posted February 16, 2018 Hi, A couple of years ago I used a HP N40L to install DSM 5.0-4496 Update 7. It's been running fine ever since but now I want to upgrade. What path should I take? Do I upgrade to 5.2 then 6? If I do a fresh install, can I re-introduce the disks with the data already held on them? Thanks
Polanskiman Posted February 17, 2018 Share #2 Posted February 17, 2018 You should upgrade as following: 5.0 > 5.2 with XPEnoboot 5.2-5967.1 DS3615xs Before upgrading to 6.1 deactivate C1E in your Bios, then: 5.2 > 6.1 with Jun's loader v1.02b DS3615xs Fresh installing is always better because you don't carry over dust from previous installs. However, fresh installing, requires you to reinstall all packages and reconfigure DSM. I advise you have a read at the forum FAQs.
foo76 Posted February 17, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted February 17, 2018 Thanks @Polanskiman My current 'model' shows as DS3612xs, is it safe to ignore that and install the DS3615xs update?
Polanskiman Posted February 17, 2018 Share #4 Posted February 17, 2018 In all honesty if I were you I would do a fresh install of 6.1 with 3615xs loader v1.02b. It will be much faster. Make a full back up of your data.
foo76 Posted February 17, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted February 17, 2018 OK, will do that. Thanks @Polanskiman
