kmx236 Posted February 6, 2014 Share #1 Posted February 6, 2014 Hi! I created a boot image (vmdk) for VMware vSphere ESXi based on this loader. In this loader replaced a serial number and mac-address and can now be used in parallel DSM 4.3 (or other version) and DSM 5.0 Beta. mcdull Posted February 7, 2014 Share #5 Posted February 7, 2014 If I already have 4.3 under esxi 5.5 Does it mean I can just change my boot vmdk to this one. And I can boot the vm and update the pat beta and done? I am very afraid that the upgrade would corrupt the existing 4.3. I have no backup plan at the moment. Thanks,
mb1404 Posted February 7, 2014 Share #6 Posted February 7, 2014 Hello all, I install DSM 5 beta successfully on a ESXI version 5.1, I started the installation normally, and after the first reboot (when the error 22 appears), I removed the disk 32 MB and I put the downloaded file (the original) .... Djey Posted February 7, 2014 Share #7 Posted February 7, 2014 Thanks but this machine does not appear in DS Assistant still, same as vmdk I converted straight from Trantor's img. I really can't understand what's going on. That's so frustrating.

bunny0007 Posted February 26, 2014 Share #12 Posted February 26, 2014 It might be that the boot image are converted from a usb image, when it get overwrited just like an usb key, and therefor will not reboot unless you provide the vitul mahine with a fresh boot image. You wil need to build a probber boot image for esxi.
Djey Posted February 27, 2014 Share #13 Posted February 27, 2014 I tried with gnoBoot image converted to vmdk and it works now. Only issue is it seems not to work with storage vmdks (not RDM) previously created with a 4.3 machine. So it's OK with brand new VMDKs.
hensu Posted February 28, 2014 Share #14 Posted February 28, 2014 how did you convert the gnoboot image to vmdk?
Djey Posted February 28, 2014 Share #15 Posted February 28, 2014 Sorry, my bad. I've written too fast. I did not really convert it, I just booted to Ubuntu Live CD in an new VM (with small VMDK) , then used dd command to write boot image to virtual disk device. BlackPearl Posted March 26, 2014 Share #19 Posted March 26, 2014 Hi all ! I have the same problem as some people... Actually, I have a server N54L with ESXi. I have installed DSM 4.3 with vSphere Client and virtual machine. Now, I would like to know, how I can update and install DSM 5.0 on my ESXi ? Can you tell me ? Because, at this time, I've converted the .img to .vmdk, but when I boot my VM, the Synology Assistant can't find my server.... Thanks in advance
