JanHoedt Posted February 3, 2014 Share #1 Posted February 3, 2014 I have this HP NL 40 on which I installed Synology 5.0 Bèta and I love it! Some practical questions: *Who is behind this initiative? Want to thank him greatly … but … please tell me how I can be sure no trojan or virus is included into the distro? *Do all features work? *Can I remove the usb after installation? *Can I upgrade Synology OS with standard update function? Guess not, how frequent then updates will be published? *QuickConnect ID does not work, can I use this? *What about RAIDS? I’d like to make a RAID5 or RAID10, is it stable on HP NL40 (since no hardware raid is available)? Bit worried about data recovery … *Any user groups specifically for HP NL40 Synology users (especially interested in stability, crashes, bugs)? J. Note, just found an issue with cloud station using 99 percent of my cpu since few hours now, known issue?
XPEH Posted February 3, 2014 Share #2 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) I have this HP NL 40 on which I installed Synology 5.0 Bèta and I love it! Some practical questions: *Who is behind this initiative? Want to thank him greatly … but … please tell me how I can be sure no trojan or virus is included into the distro? So far no extras noticed, just some extra drivers for nonstandard hardware. *Do all features work? Most yes, some releases have broken NFS. *Can I remove the usb after installation? Its required for boot. You can eject it or hide share, but leave it plugged in to survive reboot. *Can I upgrade Synology OS with standard update function? Guess not, how frequent then updates will be published? Some minor updates work directly from official site, read first here before each update. Major upgrades, use published here software. So far it has been pretty soon after the official releases, but it doesn't guarantee the future updates. *QuickConnect ID does not work, can I use this? Not likely, use third party DDNS services *What about RAIDS? I’d like to make a RAID5 or RAID10, is it stable on HP NL40 (since no hardware raid is available)? Bit worried about data recovery …All RAID types supported just like the official software. *Any user groups specifically for HP NL40 Synology users (especially interested in stability, crashes, bugs)? All posts related to HP N54L, N40L N36L apply. Most of the general software topics applied to. J. Note, just found an issue with cloud station using 99 percent of my cpu since few hours now, known issue? JanHoedt Posted February 5, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted February 5, 2014 Can I make the quick connect work by using changing the serial of the machine? I have a Synology on which I don't use the quickconnect, so I could use that one? However, I don't know where the serial number of that Synology is + it's a DS1512 http://www.raving.at/ Please advise. J..

JanHoedt Posted February 6, 2014 Author Share #9 Posted February 6, 2014 Will Synology Quickconnect check on specific serial number? Maybe only valid serial number is checked. If I don't use it from DS1511 I could connect via Quickconnect, right? Nobody tried yet? Strange.
