Sometimes, shutdown/reboot doesn't work from DSM. What I do is force it from command line.

 

Follow up for Xen Paravirtualization:

According to this article http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX121875 , for sucessful paravirt booting it is recomended to do something like this:

 

initrd --omit-scsi-modules --with=xennet --with=xenblk --preload=xenblk initrd-$(uname -r)xen-no-scsi.img $(uname -r)xen

 

which is I guess not an option here.. (disabling scsi modules), anyway booting is then realized by pygrub and kernel is executed with additional params "console=hvc0 xencons=hvc".

 

I hope it is still feasible to paravirt gnoBoot :smile:

 

You're using an old kernel. You should be getting like below, get the latest zImage from my drive.

What do you mean with That's fine?

 

kexec-tool is not a daemon (service). If you want to get rid of that messages, I think you need to install it on a baremetal.

You need at least 2 disk to install DSM, disk1 (32MB+) and disk2 (8GB+). If you go below 8GB for disk2 (sda1) then you'll never proceed with the installation.

@GnoBoot : Thank you. Solved. Installed (DSM_DS3612xs_3827.pat). Work fine on ESXi 5.5.

note : can't install DSM_DS3612xs_4418.pat. Assistant tells me i have to install 3827 before... so i do ^^

 

I will test transfer performance and report them to you...

Update for XenServer Paravirtualization:

 

I tried last gnoboot build (Wed Mar 5 18:05:38 CST) -> problem with xen disks presists, eg. I can't install DSM using Syno Assistant (error 38). I am attaching two virtual disks - first 32MB, second 8GB, using 512MB RAM, and 2 CPUs, viridan disabled (HyperV win8 support).

In the mean time I experimented with paravirtualizing gnoboot (http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX121875) and FAILED doing that.

 

I can't make XenServer boot gnoboot using pygrub and loading guest kernel. It might be problem with XenServer configuration, guest kernel compression or maybe missing initrd in guest, I have no idea.. :/. XenServer simply can't find bootable kernel...

 

Was anyone else trying to paravirt gnoBoot in XenServer/KVM, any ideas?

 

So to sum up current situation, gnoBoot was properly working on XenServer in alpha8 version - full virtualization (HVM). I personaly have no idea what to try next to make paravirt work...

 

To make gnoBoot work in XenServer, it is required to fix the disks problem... Xen PV support may stay in gnoBoot, however until someone finds out how to make it work it is useless... Anyway I guess using xen-drivers (blk, net) bypasses some hardware emulation, so if possible i would keep that in.

In the mean time I experimented with paravirtualizing gnoboot (http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX121875) and FAILED doing that.

 

I can't make XenServer boot gnoboot using pygrub and loading guest kernel. It might be problem with XenServer configuration, guest kernel compression or maybe missing initrd in guest, I have no idea.. :/. XenServer simply can't find bootable kernel...

 

Was anyone else trying to paravirt gnoBoot in XenServer/KVM, any ideas?

 

So to sum up current situation, gnoBoot was properly working on XenServer in alpha8 version - full virtualization (HVM). I personaly have no idea what to try next to make paravirt work...

 

To make gnoBoot work in XenServer, it is required to fix the disks problem... Xen PV support may stay in gnoBoot, however until someone finds out how to make it work it is useless... Anyway I guess using xen-drivers (blk, net) bypasses some hardware emulation, so if possible i would keep that in.

I just tried 10.2, and Syno Assistant sucessfully installs DSM (disks recognized), however after final reboot, on :5000 there is still Syno Web Assistant with message "configuration lost" , am I doing anything wrong? (I set custom SN, tried booting/installing with menu_alpha.lst and menu_me.lst using DSM43. In last effort I tried even DSM5, however Syno Assistant failed with message I should install DSM43).

 

If I will make at least this work I will give paravirtualization another shot... it is quite interesting by it self and at least I will learn something new :smile:

N54L Bare Metal. Gnoboot alpha10. Host reboots itself 10min after scheduled and manual shutdown.

Has somebody experienced the behavior?

 

Overall it behaves as it should. Stock .pat File.

I have approx. 100Megabytes/s Read/Write Perfomance with 3 Drives. (WD 10 and 20)

hardware : n40l 16G ram , PCIe digital-tv card(DMB-th) and a lsi 9261-8i raid card.

software : esxi 5.5, pfSense , DSM 4.3, DSM 5.0 beta, WinXP and Windows7.

 

I could be the tester on esxi.

First, you have to setup serial logging in XEN, and then boot to GRUB's debug option and send me the output. If that doesn't work for you, simply send me `dmesg` output or /.gnoboot/debug.log with debug enabled. Take note, you won't be able to see any console messages while doing this, add "console=tty0" at the end of GRUB kernel option to enable it.
