Hi there!

can someone help understanding how volume numbers are assigned?

I'm on ESXi, made gnoboot as IDE disk, second disk made as pvscsi, put rmmod=ata_piix. Then attached two RDM disks. One of these RDMs was created as DSM's SHR and another one is just basic ext4.

mount shows:

DS5> mount

/dev/root on / type ext4 (defaults)

none on /dev/pts type devpts (gid=4,mode=620)

/sys on /sys type sysfs (0)

/tmp on /tmp type tmpfs (0)

/proc/bus/usb on /proc/bus/usb type usbfs (0)

/dev/vg1000/lv on /volume1 type ext4 (usrjquota=aquota.user,grpjquota=aquota.group,jqfmt=vfsv0,synoacl)

/dev/md4 on /volume3 type ext4 (usrjquota=aquota.user,grpjquota=aquota.group,jqfmt=vfsv0,synoacl)

/dev/vg1002/lv on /volume4 type ext4 (usrjquota=aquota.user,grpjquota=aquota.group,jqfmt=vfsv0,synoacl)

DS5>

why /dev/md4 is mounted on /volume3 and not on /volume2 and /dev/vg1002/lv on /volume4 rather than /volume3 ?

I am currently using Trantor's XPEnology DS3612xs DSM 4.3 build 3827 on my Proliant N54L. I really want to get my machine to work on DSM 5.0 but I know nothing about gnoboot.I don't want my data to be wiped away after installing DSM 5.0 with gnoboot  Is there any thread that I can refer to for the solutions?

Thx Gnoboot for supporting (Add MagicPro ProHDTV Dual USB multimedia driver from my request!)

I am currently using the 10.4 (HP N40L and upgrade from trantor 5.0 beta) perfectly and try to upgrade tio 10.5 by replacing the USB.

Unfortunately, I can boot it up and I can find my Syno in synology assistant.

But I can't login and wait a long of time to "Starting services."

And

I found the error on the screen, attached the below:

Loading module rr62x [fail]

IMG_4299_zps15058c27.jpg

and wait around few minutes the screen change to below screen:

IMG_4300_zps33d73f81.jpg

Now I need to fallback to 1.4....

The rr66x fail message is nothing to worry about iirc, its just the rocketraid driver can´t find a rocketraid raid card in your PC, thats why the driver fails to load. the other thing i can´t answer though.

Hi Danyz, did you checked the bios settings? are your disks recognized on each ports in the bios?

I am pretty sure you have already checked that ... But IT is just IN case

Yes, I forgot to say that I was in 4.3 with Trantor release, I updated to gnoboot 10.5

Thanks

To me, I need to use gnoboot.me to start migration from 4.3 to 10.5.

And all thirdparty app have to be reinstalled.

File server retained.

Update for Xen Paravirtualization

Hi 10.4-vfat is recognized by XenServer 6.2SP1 in PV mode (pygrub) as bootable however during booting it get stuck after "Re-scanning disks". (Tried 10.4-ext2 but no luck)

21dqv0y.png

I am booting with these arguments: "root=/dev/md0 console=hvc0 sn=... debug=true", perhaps root=?? is wrong?

Any idea what to try next?

Console output with debug=true

Hello, now I`m trying gnoboot-alpha-10.5 and v10.4 directly on hardware (MB GA-EP-DS4). Installed latest DSM 5.0-4458. I have some issuses with that configuration.

1. When system boots up I have to wait about 5min to be available on the network, or unplug and plug in Lan cable. Motherboard using Realtek 8111C Chip.

2. Unable to install Update 1 no matter if trying automatic or manual update. System loads update the saying that the file is broken.

3. My DVB-T dongle not workig (works well on Trantor version and 4.3). This is Manta dvbtusb01 it is based on chipset It9135. As I see drivers are present in system, but Videostation not recognizes any tv card.

For #2, did you try the following:

1) Click Download of update in DSM

2) SSH into box as ROOT

3) Run the following commands:

sed ‘s/flashupdateDeb/flashupdateDeb1/’ /autoupd@te.info > /autoupd@te.info1

mv /autoupd@te.info1 /autoupd@te.info

4) Click UPDATE box in DSM

That fixed my DSM update1 issue.

Can someone suggest a reasonably priced (less than 110 euro) Raid card that will work with gnoboot and 4 Sata disks? a plus but not a requirement would be hotswap support so i dont have to open the VM down if i want to replace a failing disk.

I bought this:

LSI 9211-i8

Works fine with Gnoboot and DSM 5.0, flashed mine to IT-mode so I can use software-raid

That looks like a great option! Do you use it with Gnoboot running on ESXi or do you have ESXi installed as the OS on your machine?, also does the disks you have connected show up as disk 1-8 in DSM or does it start at like, disk 5-12? (with disk bay 1-4 being "empty"
