wenlez Posted April 25, 2014 Share #926 Posted April 25, 2014 That method is only for small updates, not new builds (4458 vs 4482). edit: I think gnoboot just needs to and the new build version to the version file buried in rd.gz, which is buried in the zImage now. Lets hope he finds some time to update it edit2: looks like I was wrong. It's much easier Just need to edit grub menu_me kernel /zImage gnoboot_me=5.0-4482 But looks like they added new secruity meaursures So, you made the change to the grub first, then update? o

falconhk2007 Posted April 26, 2014 Share #928 Posted April 26, 2014 Hi, I have just updated my DSM from 4.3-3810 to 5.0-4438 using gnoboot-alpha 10.5 in my N54l . I then plugged in my Contex DTV-01 USB stick (with "LGS8GL5" chipset) but the device manager can't detect the USB stick (It can be detected while I was using DSM 4.3-3810). Can anyone help me with this issue? Below is the dmesg information after i plugged in the Contex DTV-01 USB stick but the DSM Panel still doesn't show any external usb device is connected: [ 525.247101] usbcore: deregistering interface driver dvb_usb_cxusb [ 528.348829] dsmnotify.cgi[6374]: segfault at 0 ip 000000000804ccb8 sp 00000000ffe65c30 error 6 [ 528.797115] usb 1-3: new high-speed USB device number 4 using ehci_hcd [ 529.203259] dvb_usb_cxusb: probe of 1-3:1.0 failed with error -22 [ 529.203383] usbcore: registered new interface driver dvb_usb_cxusb BTW, I found the firmware for "LGS8GL5" chipset of this DMB-TH USB stick Contex DTV-01: https://github.com/cernekee/linux-firmw ... lgs8g75.fw I tried to put it in volume1/@appstore/VideoStation/etc/KernelFirmwares/ folder but the USB stick still cannot be detected. Can anyone help with this issue? I encountered the same problem in DSM5.0. I tried to use Sancome's NanoBoot x64 lately, it works with DTV-01. But I do not know the stabiility of NanoBoot. You may take it a shot. http://nas1.cn/thread-83382-1-1.html
ponap4 Posted April 26, 2014 Share #929 Posted April 26, 2014 Hi everybodyI'm trying to install DSM 5.0 upgrading from Trantor 4.2 to GnoBoot 5.0. I have followed the instructions -Flash usb with gnoboot -boot using gnoboot.me -find the station using synology asistant. but at this point the assistant doesnt say "migratable" instead it says "Configuration lost" has anyone come by this ?? I'm hesitant to proceed. The only thing I read about on the official Synology website is that this will happen when you reset the NAS, but you won't lose any data (although not guaranteed). Only the configuration and settings will be lost, but that shouldn't be a big issue. If you don't want to lose your data making a backup is highly recommended of course. Thanks R0KH, true. The update happened with no data loss but I had to re install packages and re configure all which wasnt a big deal.

humpas Posted April 26, 2014 Share #931 Posted April 26, 2014 Hi Gnoboot, i´ve been using 10.5 with DSM 5.0 for a few weeks now. (i even got one of those LSi 9211-8i cards for it) everything is working great aside from one small problem. I am currently using 3 disks (2x2TB and 1x1.5TB, the 2TB disks are connected to Sata 0 and 1 on the raidcard (i see this during POST when i start the esxi 5.5 host) Anyways, if i start with only the 2 2TB disks connected they appear as 1 and 2 in the webGUI, and if i insert the 1.5TB after booting DSM and letting everything finish the 3rd (1.5TB disk shows up as disk 3. But if i reboot the synology VM after that the 1.5TB disk hows up as disk number 2 in the GUI after reboot. Its hardly a big problem, but it could cause some nuiciance incase one of the disks die and you acciodentally pull the wrong disk to replace. (Since the disk position in the web GUI does not properly reflect its position in the computer.)

Jerome Hi, I try to install Xpenology with gnoboot 10.5 but I have this message : "fixing recursive fault but reboot is needed" What do I do ? Jerome I read several times in these forums about removing the optical drive if you have a optical drive that is and get this message. It should work fine then. ceasley Posted May 3, 2014 Share #937 Posted May 3, 2014 It *is* possible but definitely not ideal because you will sacrifice all the space on your drive. I had to do this because my system would not boot from USB 100% of the time (sometimes the drive wasn't detected until after POST). I've been running in this configuration for a few weeks with no issues. You will need a USB adapter for your hard drive (I'm using this one and it works great: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812161005) YOU WILL LOSE ALL THE DATA ON THE DRIVE WITH THIS METHOD! 1.) Connect the hard drive you want to use to boot Synology from to the USB adapter, then to your computer. 2.) Prepare the drive with Win32DiskImager just as you would a thumbdrive. 3.) Put the newly-prepared disk into your Synology server, and boot it up! (use a SATA or IDE connection...USB is no longer required at this point)

fire90 Posted May 6, 2014 Share #942 Posted May 6, 2014 Hi, i have gnoboot alpha 10.5 installed on my hardware (no Vmware) everything is fine except two fings : when i reboot the gnoboot or DSM, my hardware bios tell me bad CMOS and he can't boot on my usb stick i have to go in menu settings of the bios and select the boot on usb every time... i change the battery on the motherboard but nothing change. Secondly : gnoboot doesn't recognize my pci ethernet card. He see just my integrated ethernet card on motherboard. Do i have to add driver on gnoboot? How to do it? Thank's for your answear
volfield Posted May 7, 2014 Share #943 Posted May 7, 2014 Hi, "Generally", bad CMOS issue are hardware related ... so i don't think it would be gnoboot related. For your network card, it's simply not recognised because no driver is present for it in the current gnoboot release. Maybe asking gnoboot (very) nicely would solve your issue for those having issues with vmware, you can try the simple (and efficient) tool : plop boot manager which enables the vm to boot from usb. Then a "standard" setup (with raw device mapping and classic usb key trick) is possible using esix 5.5 (for example) I just wanted to send many thanks to gnoboot for is hard work regarding synology 5.0 port i successfully installed it on many different hardware (such as Zotac Z68wifi ... shuttle DS61 ... citrix xenserver and esxi 5.5) almost everything is working like a charm ... for an alpha relase it's pretty amazing ! The only missing thing for me is the dib0700 driver but i'm working on an alternative solution (or wait patiently for gnoboot to release his kernel sources) congrats for all of this ! regards ! I didn't see any solution. Ok i will ask to in gnoboot site to add my network driver card. Thank's for your answear and you're right, amazing job around xpenology and DSM. MikeRoxx Posted May 7, 2014 Share #945 Posted May 7, 2014 I use that "Advanced Power Manager for Synology DS" and have no problems with bios resets.
fire90 Posted May 8, 2014 Share #946 Posted May 8, 2014 Hi, Do you have Xpenology on your hardware directly? (None in VirtualBox or Vmware). Did you have issue with bios settings resetting before installed Advanced Power Manager for Synology DS? Thank's

I have tried every method but it still cannot be detected in DSM 5.0 using gnoboot 10.3/10.4/10.5 Thank you! Hi hkbnman, As falconhk2007 said before, try to use NanoBoot instead, if you want to use Contex DTV-01 usb stick in DSM5.0 I've successfully using Contex DTV-01 usb stick in DSM5.0 with NanoBoot. check the following link out~! http://www.nas1.cn/thread-83483-1-1.html Good luck~! fma965 Posted May 13, 2014 Share #950 Posted May 13, 2014 Hi, I'm currently running 4.3 on my HP54L on ESXi. Working like a charm but i want to upgrade to DSM 5. How to do this? Can i install a new VM and then attach the old disks to it? I suggest backing up data and then following this guide http://cyanlabs.co.uk/news/how-to-insta ... gy-on-esxi and then my new guide in a few hours once i get nanoboot sorted, alternatively you could jump straight to nanoboot but the guide may be missing some needed steps this way. BACKUP, even if you may not lose data you should still BACKUP Also to update from gnoboot to nanoboot follow this guide - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3068 - note you could skip going to gnoboot but it may be confusing.
