Kernel driver in use: r8168

There's already workaround posted in my blog. You have to rmmod GRUB option r8169_new. Have you tried that already?

kernel /zImage rmmod=r8169,r8169_new

From your blog:

To use r8168 (e.g R8111) driver, you need to blacklist r8169 driver according to this post.

rmmod=r8169_new

But I'm already using the r8168 driver so I don't understand why I need to blacklist the r8169 driver.

In any case I added the rmmod=r8169,r8169_new option and it is still disconnecting from the LAN.

Then you either have to rmmod xhci or ehci in /etc/rc.local. Back read to know what's causing the segfaults.

Hi

I am doing a native install on HP NL36. I burined the image gnoboot-alpha10.4-ext2.img to usb. When installing I get the errors, see image.

Can soneone tell me why this is happening and how to proceed to install without error. Even after rebooting the same error persists.

Thanks

gnoBoot has stated in his blog that this will be fixed with gnoboot-alpha10.5

My set up is: one virtual disk to host the syno-boot-ext2 image. one 60GB virtual disk for initial installation; one LSI 9211-8i IT mode with one 160GB SSD, and two 4TB hard drives. Somehow the first disk starts with Disk 4. The 60GB is Disk 4; the 160GB SSD is Disk 5, and so on. Does anyone have similar issue? i saw someone posted here with first disk of Disk 3 (sdc) , and need to use the insmod during GRUB boot?

For my motherboards, both Intel brand, I need to rmmod=ata_piix in grub. Or else DSM will start the array at slot 3 and onward (it seems to reserve the first 2 slots for that driver for some reason). You can try that in a test VM and see if your array starts at the correct slot. If not, then it's probably another driver.

edit: I guess it happens for me because I install gnoboot to a IDE vdmk rather than ACHI. https://ata.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Ata_piix

On a side note, does anyone know if it's possible to run gnboot off a .flp (floppy image) rather than virtual hard drive? I tried to get it working, but got boot errors.

Hello

I would like to upgrade my n54l.

It runs now under dsm 4.2 and I would like to install dsm 5.

I downloaded gnoboot 10.4, create a bootable usb key.

I plug the key on my n54l, switch it on, select gnoboot.me.

In synology assistant my Nas appear, but it is written "configuration lost".

When I right click on it the only choice is "install".

If I double click, a web page appear, adivisng me to backup my data ,and ask me where to find the firmware.

I didn't continue the process, because I don't know if this is normal.

From what I read, it would be written "migratable".

Can someone take a few minutes to explain me if it is normal, or if I did something wrong ?

Thanks a lot.

Ps : sorry for my english, since it is not my mother langage.

Not sure, if you 4.2 would allow you to jump directly to 5.0. Take a backup first before you do anything as it should not be "configuration lost" if you have existing DSM installation.

I migrated my third xpenology from 4.3-3810 (trantors build r1.0) to 5.0-4458 just an hour ago. All my data and setting stayed unharmed. Except of remote permissions on all the shares. So I had to restore permissions manually (I mean - manually in DSM gui) for both nfs and smb access. May be it is also your case.

Long time viewer, first time poster.

Just wanted to say thanks for this excellent piece of software. Successfully have DSM 5.0 running on an HP NL36 Microserver and an old HP ML110 G4. The old ML110 needed some crap disabled in the BIOS at first but nothing of importance at all, serial ports, IDE etc.

I do have a small issue that I'd like some help with or to find out if any one else is experiencing the same issue...

The NL36 is used as my main server and previously I had Trantor's DSM 4.2 installed. All ran fine but also had the DHCP package installed which worked wonderfully well.

Since upgrading to DSM 5.0 I see that DHCP is now built in and doesn't require an external package installed. My issues are:-

1. Clients with a DHCP leased address are not listed under the DHCP clients tab

2. The server is scheduled to power off then back on again between 3am - 7am, DHCP appears to fail until I disable and then re-enable it.

I have no idea if they are DSM 5.0 specific issues (a search on the Synology forums brings back no info) or whether it's something to do with gnoBoot?

I did perform a DSM 4.2 to 5.0 upgrade accepting the lost configuration, I don't see how this could cause this issue however.

Any pointers would be most appreciated

Hi and thanks for your great work. I'm using gnoBoot 10.4 as my home server and another one as a backup server, both on ASUS C60M1-I. Both are working great, except one (major) issue with the backup server.

It seems that something in DSM 5.0 upgrade (on the real DS) broke Time Backup so that it is not able to do incremental network backups with any XPEnology as a target (though another real DS works fine). It always do "full" backups when using XPEnology as a target (while it does only "incremental" backup when using real DS as a target, which is correct behaviour). See my thread with full explanation of this issue here: http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2781

Could it be somehow related to the issue "Broken block-level iSCSI (LIO)", or is it another thing?

Thanks for any help.

@FrankDeRyder,

It's probably DSM app related issue, my boot image is just a kernel and initramfs. It has nothing to do with the apps. For example, synozram script is broken because vendor is using PHP to calculate memory size which is missing from default installation.

@Kybla,

Might be, try another backup method (e.g. rsync) or wait for beta release that will include a working iSCSI block backend.

Interestingly, setting rmmod=ata_piix moves my first drive to disk 2.

Thanks gnoboot for your 10.5 update.

I have updated to 10.5, but unlucky, I have a SATA HD connected on the original DVDROM sata connector, and that disk couldn't be found after the upgrade, I tried both vanilla and modified version, all failed, then I switched back to 10.4 and the disk was back.

I am using N40L.

Thank you for the advise!! That disk is very important for me and I can't loose it! Will stay in 10.4 until more information.

Thank you gnoboot for your work on this, im having a small problem.

Im trying to run gnoboot on ESXi 5.5 with the sata-controller on the hosts motherboard passed through to the synology box.

The motherboard is a Asrock z77 extreme4 with an i7 3770 cpu mounted.

gnoboot works fine without the device passed through, but when i pass the AHCI controller to the synology VM it kernel panics during boot like this:

HTXMGQP.png, is Panther Point AHCI controller not supported? (Should i get a seperate raid card and pass that through instead? if so, will a LSI MegaRAID SAS 9240-4i SGL or a cheaper Sunway raidcard with a Silicon Image SiI3114 chip work?)

Also follow up question, can i change the model from DS3612xs to sometihng like DS412+? (im planning on using the synology VM with 4 physical disks inside one of these, the web gui would just look nicer if it was for a model with only 4 drives)
