im having this strange problem since updating to 5.0 from the beta...

I always had UPNP enabled in my router, but since the update this function criples my lan.. Every once in a while the network hangs for 2s, if i dissconnect the xpenology-box or disable upnp in the router everything is fine and as soon as i put it back on with upnp enabled in router the lan acts up...

I have tried with a different cable but thats not it.

Anyone got a clue on this?

QUESTION: Can't synodisk be patched to work like smartctl does?

Anything related to DSM, won't fix. It's closed source.

Update on XenServer Paravirtualization

I tried to run gnoboot using XenServer PV (pygrub), however getting error in Xen console when starting VM:

Internal error: xenopsd internal error: XenguestHelper.Xenctrl_dom_linux_build_failure(2, " panic: xc_dom_core.c:616: xc_dom_find_loader: no loader\\\"")

Which i found is result of XenServer having pygrub compiled WITHOUT LZMA/XS support for kernel compression (which holds for last XenServer release http://discussions.citrix.com/topic/330 ... z-support/)

gnoBoot what compression are you using? (I could not find it using `file zImage`)

Anyway in XenServer 6.2.5 (beta) LZMA/XS is supported so if that is reason why it is not working then i would wait for XenServer 6.2.5 stable release (https://xen-orchestra.com/testing-xenserver-6-2-5-beta/).

Thanks

I'm using LZMA, will switch to GZIP next release.

/etc/rc.network is very different from 5.0-4418 to 5.0-4458 that might be the problem. Trying replacing the file using older version.

I'm running gnoboot 10.3 on bare hardware and having horrible transfer speeds, the motherboard I'm using has a quad i210 nic on board with the latest version of xeon cpu and 16gb ram, 8 3tb WD Red, as suggested I tried removing the e1000 module, i did this by ssh into the box and trying rmmod e1000.ko however i get the following error

rmmod: can't unload 'e1000': unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter

any suggestions?

thanks

I disabled local master browser (had no others on the lan) and mac file service wich seems to have solved the problem, had both these on in the beta without any problem...

I'm still waiting for the next IGB driver release. I can't compile the latest version because of BUG#396.

Hi Hjnas,

I saw your post some pages earlier and would be interested to understand your whole setup:

Lsi 9271-8 and H710p

I just use photo station on the dsm as the front end for the mobile device. The window sever is the main storage as the back end. That is why I prefer to use cifs mount on dsm instead of NSF or ISCSI.

I use vmkfstools -z / -v to create the LUN for dsm instead of the raid controller passthrough.

Test env:

Gnoboot alpha 9 - dsm 4.3

Esxi 5.5

Windows 2012 r2 std

Does that mean, DSM is just acting as a front-end without any major HDD management?

I have a 2012R2 Server with VMware workstation 10 (configured as server) running gnoboot's DSM 5.0-4458. I have set up a small VMDK for direct storage, but most of the content is mounted via NFS from a NFS-Share on my Host-system 2012R2. How do you manage your access from DSM to the 2012R2? How do you use LUN?

Thanks upfront for your feedback - I'm searching for improvements on my installation;-)

Using gnoboot 10.3 alpha all works except push notifications. On the prior build I had installed (4.3 -3180) I used the SN of an DS713+ and push notifications worked fine. Not this time around using same SN as before.

System Specs:

Mother Board ASUS P6X58D Premium, Dual NIC (both work)

Processor: I7 950, 3.06Ghz

RAM: 12GB

Storage: 7 3TB seagates all connected to main board 1 port still empty and appears to work.

performance in excellent

7t9k.png

58zl.png

File copied from one folder on Volume 1 to another folder on Volume 1 was close to 38GB and took 6 minutes

LAN performance is great too, saturates 1gig network both in read and write

I'm running gnoboot 10.3 on bare hardware and having horrible transfer speeds, the motherboard I'm using has a quad i210 nic on board with the latest version of xeon cpu and 16gb ram, 8 3tb WD Red, as suggested I tried removing the e1000 module, i did this by ssh into the box and trying rmmod e1000.ko however i get the following error

rmmod: can't unload 'e1000': unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter

any suggestions?

thanks

I'm still waiting for the next IGB driver release. I can't compile the latest version because of BUG#396.

I have an Intel gig pro that uses the 82574L chip and e1000e.ko, would disabling the on board nic and using this one bypass the igb driver issues?

thanks

Just use rmmod GRUB option to disable your 82574L chip.

kernel /zImage rmmod=e1000e_new,e1000e

But I think that would not even solve your problem.

Changelog for igb 5.1.2

* Change how driver update rx packet stats, to include additional packet types.

* Add support for freeing q_vectors via RCU.

* Change how PBA is reported when using flashless i210/i211.

* Fixes to improve load performance for flashless i210 devices.

* Add get/set_channels function for queue management via ethtool.

* Update the number of tries for copper link in Media Auto Sense feature due to behavior with no cables.

* Add function to output RSS table via ethtool. * Sync some RSS changes from upstream.

* Fix for WOL issues found on some kernel versions.

* Fix for PHY config issue found when changing PHY settings after init on some i354 platforms.

I don't prefer to use nsf on the windows environment because it requires multiple ports opening. I don't use the ISCSI on the home environment because there is not huge different on the IO.

my dsm setting, 32MB boot + 8GB dsm / single EXT4 storage (~3.5 GB useable space). The photo station created the /photo folder under dsm storage and i created the mounting point on this folder via cifs. Therefore, all the photos stores in the windows side.

Thanks for your feedback Hjnas,

Trying your way, I deleted all my folders and files under /photo & /music and mapped remote folders from my Server via Filestation CIFS. The structure is now:

/photo/Fahrzeuge

/music/Lieder

where Lieder and Fahrzeuge are remote folders.

I have reindexed after mapping remote folders, but unfortunately, Nor DS-audio finds any songs, nor DS-Photo finds any photo.

Do you have any idea, why it doesn't work for me?

Btw, I haven't installed vm-tools, as gnoboot is still working to get them running on DSM-50

Kudos to gnoBoot and Trantor for the excellent work they did !!!

I installed gnoBoot alpha 10.4 with DSM 5, and managed to get it work. Thanks to the additional drivers I have a RTL8169 card working, a bluetooth dongle as well as a Huawei 3G dongle for Asterisk.

There was one thing weird though, during installation, after reboot, I got a few times that Synology Assistant had a time out and was not able to end the final step in which the configuration files were written.

When I logged in on xpenology itself (using gnoBoot's login screen of the NAS itself) and then logged out, for some weird reason, the system was capable of finishing successfully the writing of the configuration files. I don't know why or if I did something wrong, but I'm happy I got it working  .

I've installed the latest beta on my N54L and all things I have tried work,

and the two things that are playing up is, if I click on "network" in My computer the N54L shows up as

"other devices" "plex server" But the main Icon(shape of a monitor) does not show up.

And if I try \\insert name it can't find the Nas. But I have found out that if I un-tick "Enable SMB 2 and large mtu"

it shows up until I reboot. Also I have a number 1 on the control panel(like when it has a update)

and it takes ages for the services to start up.

Alll android apps work great and wol is working and so is hibernation. Thanks dude for 10.4  still playing.
