blankpoint Posted January 19, 2014 Share #1 Posted January 19, 2014 I have a 4x4TB SHR volume on my 4.3 XPEnology box. This volume is used for backup. 2 of the the drives are 7200rpm drives that I want to use in my main PC now, and replace with two other 4TB NAS-rated drives. My question is: Can I take the two drives out of my XPEnology box, clone them to the two other drives, and then put them back in the XPEnology, and boot as if nothing happened? Or does DSM notice that these are different physical drives and freak out/wreck the SHR volume? Apologies for my ignorance here.
XPEH Posted January 19, 2014 Share #2 Posted January 19, 2014 You can do it normal, Synology way. Remove/replace one drive (RAID degraded). Repair volume. Repeat with second drive. Repair degraded volume again. Done. Format and reuse removed drives.
