  1. Hey guys, So I posted on here almost a year ago asking for some build recommendations and now months later I am happy to say that I have found a great deal on a Supermicro 24 Bay rack and have been playing with it for a few weeks. I've got a lot of WD Reds ready to go as well. With that being said, I tried the trial of UnRaid for the past week and although it works, it just feels sloppy to me (previous Synology user) and now I'm having second thoughts about UnRaid vs Xpenology. My question is, is my system compatible with Xpenology? Can I run it with SHR 2 safely? I don't really care about the latest DSM updates and all, I just want to be able to use a Synology with the ability to have 24 drives and the trust that Synology gives off (If you know what I mean). Supermicro - X8DAH+-F Intel Xeon L5630 48GB ECC RAM (24GB usable right now as only one CPU is installed) LSI 9211-8i (Flashed in IT mode) SAS2 Backplane (I believe it's the BPN-SAS2-846EL1) I know it's kind of a stupid thing to ask about "stability" with basically a "hacked OS" but you guys get what I mean. If I could buy the OS straight from Synology I totally would 110%. Thanks guys!
  2. So, the other day I was gifted an old server, based on the Supermicro X8SI6-F. It sits in a Fractal Design Define R5, that easy supports 8+ drives. As always, the first thing that came to mind, was that this could be used with XPEnology ;-) It has no problem booting Jun's 1.3b, and installing DSM 6.3.x (DS3615xs), but it insists on using the 6*Sata2(3Gb/s) as drive 1-6, before the 8*6Gb/s ports on the integrated SAS controller (IT-mode). This give me a count of 6+8=14 drives, and if I want to use them all, I will have to modify the max disk in synoinfo.conf. with the risk of "loosing" the last 2 SAS ports when updating. I was hoping I could just disable the SATA ports in BIOS, and use just the 8 SAS ports, but I found no option to do so. Now, my question to the guru's here: Can I remap the drive order in a config file (and not having it broken during updates) and keep my 8 SAS ports as drive 1-8? (and maybe use 4 of the 6 SATA ports if needed)
  3. Good day community. I have been using Xpenology for a while on the Jun DS3617xs 1.03b build on an old server. I got my hands on a "new" old server that has IT-Mode SAS and 24 disks. It is the Supermicro X9DRD-7LN4F-JBOD with 2 ivybridge e5-2970 v2. I can install the Jun DS3617xs 1.03b build on it but would like to use the Jun's 918+ loader because there seams to be more support on the forum for it, specifically extra.lzma files that are modified for 24 disks at the start. The issue I am running into is that I cannot get connected to the find.synology.com or find any IPs in the Synology Assistant after it boots up for the first time. I attached the grub.cfg below I modified. Would anyone in the community be able to assist me in trying to get further with this? I know, this server is overkill. I want to use it for the 24 disks and I have another newer server running ESXi but less storage. UPDATE Well, I found this and it looks like Ivybridge on 918+ isn't supported. Are there any ways to get it working with extra.lzma files? grub.cfg
  5. HI guys, I received a Supermicro x10sdv-4c-tln2f for free and would like to use Xpenology on it. I am using ds3617xs loader because both use similar CPU (D1521 vs D1527). But once the bootloader printed the "... find.synology.com ... " I wasn't able to find it on the network. What should I do? I know people has success with the board using ESXi, but I rather run bare metal. I did the following 1. update pid/vid, sn, mac1 and mac2 in grub.cfg 2. change in BIOS to Legacy boot Serial-over-Lan show me nothing regard the console output. I also use the same procedure and tried ds3615xs. same thing. Please let me know how I should proceed. Thanks
  6. Hey Folks - We have made some great progress with our install and stuck on the very last step. 😩 Our Disktation installs successfully, reboots and comes back up again - after a few minutes the interface refreshes and says "Starting Services" in the assistant, if you browse to the web interface it states "System is getting ready" and simply sits there.... After a good 30 minutes nothing happens and it doesn't seem to move past this stage. We have Juns 1.02b boot loader and the DSM_DS3615xs_15152.pat file for the installation as per the guide. Hardware Setup: SuperMicro X9DBL-IF Motherboard 2 x Intel XEON E5-2418L 48Gb Ram ECC 3 x LSi 9211-8i (Flashed to IT Mode - Dell H200) HP NC365T Ethernet controller Various Hard Drives on the LSi's Has anyone else experienced anything similar to the above or can offer any insight / guidance as to what might be up? Many Thanks! MrTPN
