  1. Hi, I hope some of you have got an idea. I get no network connection after booting the DSM. No mac address propagated. My build: - AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 5650G - Gigabyte MC12-LE0 - 2x 16 GB ECC RAM - 2x 1 TB NVMe via Bifurcation adapter - 2x Intel i210 GbE (onboard) - Aspeed 2500 BMC - SATA SSD for testing purposes - Loader: RR (aka arpl-i18n) 24.1.3 several models (1621+, 3622xs+, 923+), with "all" modules - DSM: 7.2.1 I tested my hardware with a Windows 10 Installation, therefore I assume everything works basically fine. The USB stick also boots fine. Since I made good experiences with RR Loader (currently running AMD Carizzo (923+), Intel Skylake (3622+), Intel Ivy Bridge (3622+) setups), I chose it again for my latest project. But unfortunately it doesn't work after building and booting the loader. From the console, everything looks fine, but I get no mac address. I also switched from UEFI Boot to Legacy Boot. Removed the mac1 and mac2 entry from config file. The BMC (ASPEED 2500) is connected to switch port 6 and the the prod interface to switchport GE3, but there is no mac address visible.
  2. as we know the maximum intel processor is intel 9 gen. gen 10 some work. what is the maximum AMD processor? can we use the latest AMD processor? I want to try DS923 thank you for answering
  3. I revived my old N40L Microserver again. Put in the power cord and booted her up. Running well. It's running with the below version, June's loader. I'm not sure what version loader. I wanted to try and update the DSM with a more recent version but not sure where to go first. The microserver is stock. It does not contain a extra NIC. I think I have changed BIOS years ago. To add extra SATA port capabilities? Anyway, what are my options? There is a serious amount of family photographs on it. I got those backed up on a external drive but I rather not do a total reinstall. Can I update to new DSM 6.2.3? 6.2.1 needed an extra Intel NIC to function. At some point there was a seperate Broadcom driver available. Does 6.2.3 still need the extra Intel NIC or is it possible to work with the broadcom driver?
  4. Well over 3 days and 24 hours and this wonderful site rocks. I've learned an enormous amount on xpenology hardware. Cannot get reserved memory recovered and I'm at a loss. I'll list current key info below followed by the adventure... Currently: Bootloader: XPEnology_DSM_6.1.x-quicknick-3.0.zip (aka Quicknick’s Loaders DSM 6.1.X) DSM: Currently @ 3615xs-6.1.7-15284-3.pat (bromolow) Ram: physically installed 16gb, seen by BIOS and also DSM CPU: AMD A4-5000 on BIOSTAR A68N-5000 Drives: 3x4TB SATA I've checked my VID/PID more times then I can count (also learned if it's missing you can't setup Virtual Machine Manager Cluster till you correct it) Added to my grub.cfg the value disable_mtrr_trim. (attached full grub.cfg here also). I've swapped RAM slots, reflashed my BIOS also. Here's what I have below. >>> More step I've tried after, but didn't want to muddy the waters too much) [ What else can I do to get 6.1.7 Update 3 not having the reserved memory issue? ] I'm ready to donate money to learn is all I'm saying. 😇 Right now it seems I need to buy all new hardware and move past kernel 3.10 where there is a bug but hoping not. Other Steps I've Taken: (using this as DSM and bootloader guide @ https://xpenology.com/forum/topic/13333-tutorialreference-6x-loaders-and-platforms/) 1) moved disable_mtrr_trim in a different order in the set common_args_3615 line. 2) Moved to bootloader 1.04b/DSM 918+ (boots, but can't install the DSM, always ends in error 13) 3) Moved to bootloader 1.03b/DSM 3615/3617 (doesn't see the onboard network card RTL8111G chipset) Sources of Downloads: xpenology files: https://xpenology.club/downloads/ synology DSM (aka PEM): https://archive.synology.com/download/Os/DSM/ 3615 6.1.x that worked - grub.cfg
  5. I'm using AMD AM3+ Phenom 2 X4 965 https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/965 with motherboard GA-970-D3 https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-970A-D3-rev-30#ov and using 8GB of RAM. As Booting comes up in ARPL AND TCRP both got stuck and no sign of LAN light and activity, so I done some research I encountered that RTL-8111F drivers module are missing and I tried e1000 LAN card but get the Ip address and showing activity light but got stuck and no ping at all waited whole night and unsuccessful... Does this Processor do support ARPL or TCRP Any Help would be appreciated.. Thanks in Advance....
  6. I realize that AMD does not support transcoding (or from what I've read as of late), and I must've just been lucky by just so happen to be using Intel back when. But does Surveillance Station require an Intel CPU to serve up video and function as normal, or can I get away with an AMD Ryzen? If so, what special things might I need for this to be worthwhile?
  7. Hello guys, Here is my architecture : Official DS216j who run Moments/ Drive / VPN / DNS / LDAP / Surveillance Station HP Microserver NL40L who run PLEX / Download Station / Docker The NL40L is running the 6.0 version for a long time ago and I decided to update to 6.2 to use Moments & Drive. The DS216j is not powerfull enough today and it's very slow. I bought an Intel network card compatible E1000e (6.2 is not compatible anymore with the integrated NIC inside HP Micro server G7) and updated to 6.2. All is good ! I installed Moments. For the photos it seems to working well and the conversion is sooooo fast comparing DS216j but I'm not able to see any video thumbnail as you can see on the picture. It's not a permission issue because if I click on the "grey" thumbnail I can read the video. When I watched the log, every time I uploaded a video there is an error message : "System failed to convert video /var/services/homes/admin/Drive/Moments/Mobile/**************************** to mpeg4. Do you have any idea of what it could be wrong ? AMD CPU could be an issue ? Thanks in advance
  8. Good Day I want to get this cheap ITX MB with an Ryzen 3200G / 3400G Can i do this and if so what is the process for this please since i have not done an AMD Build yet. Thanks
  9. Hello fellow enthusiasts, I'm new to the forum, but not to XPenolgy. In this topic, I'd like to propose/discuss the repurposing of my old HTPC parts in an XPenology build. The parts I'm planning to use are here on PCPartPicker: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Netizen1/saved/#view=bFhmkL (I'll list it out here, in case the link doesn't work) ASRock AM1B-ITX Mini ITX AM1 Motherboard AMD 5350 2.05 GHz Quad-Core Processor Crucial Ballistix Sport 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR3-1600 Memory Various hard disks ♻️ I've read that people have had success with AMD builds before, so I'm going to try to start with the latest bootloader and see how that works. Wish me luck!
  10. If i had hair i would have yanked it out by now. So I will go through the steps that I have tried. Tried installing the DS3615xs loader 1.02 and 1.03, system will boot (watched it on the computer monitor) but never shows up in my network. Never can find it with the find.synology.com DS3617xs loader 1.02 and 1.03, system will boot (watched it on the computer monitor) but never shows up in my network. Never can find it with the find.synology.com I have tried the extension extra.lzma for both devices for both loaders. Some things to know: Yes its got a AMD Athlon xII 270 and the NIC card is a RTL8111E Gb lan controller. Any help would be appreciated. Link to the MB M5A78M-LX-PLUS
  11. There seems to be a lot of questions around Ryzen, Intel's i211's and other AMD related posts but not a ton of answers to those questions. I spent about 8 hours getting this to work and wanted to share some tips. I originally used the 1.01 (6.0.2) JUNS loader guide and that DID NOT work. I tired the extra.lzma and also tried it with both NICs plugged in, booting to both the Intel and AMD grub... Nothing worked. It would Post, load the GRUB loader and then find.synology.com couldn't find anything. I then used the 1.02B (6.1.3) JUNS loader guide and that worked like a charm. Make sure to the use Intel NIC port. Also, a couple notes of my own that I couldn't find any answer to but would have like to have known when I was having issues with the 6.0.2 loader. The VID and PID must be correct. The guide states this and this is because after you install DSM, DSM uses the USB drive and will look for the VID and PID. The SN as far as I can tell could be anything. This is used for Synology services such as QuickConnect. DO NOT USE Quickconnect (I'll be honest here, I'm new to this and Quickconnect is a Synology service and based on what everyone including mods on here say, dont use it!) The MAC address: I used my actual MAC address of my NIC... not the auto-generated one. I got this when I enabled PXE Boot because I didnt have an OS prior to install (I used https://jsfiddle.net/7Lorpu77/ to generate a SN, FYI, again it could be anything...) JUN stated some issues around "C1E function". I did run into a weird issue during my initial install and disabled this as a knee-jerk reaction. I will do more testing and see if I notice any issues. This will turn the multiplier down to 6x in an "unloaded" state to save on power which is a good thing most of the time for a NAS. Not even sure if this will work while I manually set the multiplier. The last thing I will note is my system specs: GA-AX370-Gaming K7 (rev. 1.0) Ryzen 1600 with Stock Cooler 8GB DDR4 3000 8GB SanDisk USB Drive Corsair 500W 80+ PSU **I bought a Ryzen for future growth as this is for my Homelab. I can use this as a HomePC, HTPC, or my gaming PC in the future and the Mobo/CPU will be plenty speedy. With that said, it is OVERKILL. I undervolted the Ryzen and slowed it down to 1.1V VCore (from 1.22500 IIRC) and also set the Multiplier and FSB to 20x100MHZ for a total for 2000mhz. This dropped the idle temp about 3* Celcius and also the running Wattage by about 10W. I plan to continue to test with this and drop it some more. With a cheap video card and one 1TB HDD, this setup is pulling around 58W idle. As you can see in the image it shows up as an i3 and only 2 core are showing as working but when I SSH into the DSM, 8 of the 12 cores are working.
  12. Hi, I was running Oracle VM VirtualBox on an Intel Processor with this image: DS3615xs_DSM6.1_JunsMod_V1.02b_MBR_Genesys.img However, this PC was old and now defective. So, I have built a new PC with an AMD Ryzen 5 1600 processor, installed Oracle VM VirtualBox and have tried to run the DS3615xs_DSM6.1_JunsMod_V1.02b_MBR_Genesys.img image. I'm able to start the image, see 15-09-2018 14-24-37.jpg, but http://find.synology.com can't find the DS2615xs. Had a look in my Router, but no IP-adres was assigned to the NAS. I have the impression, that this image can't be run because of the AMD processor. Please find attached the Oracle Virtual Box log files. My hope is, that there is a way to get this working (fix or workaround). BR, XPEgebruiker. VBox.log VBoxHardening.log
  13. Salve a tutti ho un HP ProLiant MicroServer N36L con sopra open media vault e volevo sapere come procedere per installare xpenology. Grazie a tutti.
  14. Hi Everyone, I've a nightmare since couple of days and I'm not sure how bad I did damage my HP EX470 !! Basically I've a HP EX470 running on AMD sempron 3400+ with 2GB Ram and ESD 256MB I've decided to put Xpenology on it using the loader and after many digging on the forum I found the 6.1 MBR loader is the one that people kept saying it works good with AMD and I flashed that to my USB after modifying the VID/PID ... BUT my pc was going through kernel panic and freezes and basically hangs there not responding to anything I input neither DEL nor ctrl+alt+del .. nothing at all !! so I thought it's because of the USB flash drive ... so STUPID me decided to wipe the internal ESD via Acronis Disk Director booted via Hiren's USB boot and clone the xpenology USB contents including the partition table to the current ESD !! I thought it will pass the power on self check BUT ... another kernel attack and I can't even do anything at all ... no access to bios settings or boot from external device or anything .. I know loads of people will swear at me ,,but any help will be appreciated
  15. Hello Week ago i found that folder /lib/modules doesn`t contain kvm-amd.ko How i can compile this module for my DSM?
  16. Greetings, Was watching a youtube video "XPEnology -DSM 6.1 (bare metal) tutorial. I downloaded 6.0.2 loader from the xpenology forum (mega). downloaded the synoboot.img. Used rufus to make the bootable usb drive. Took it to my machine (an old desktop) and booted from the usb drive. It displayed on the screen the normal messages, then booting from kernel where it hung. I am assuming there is an issue with my hardware. It is an AMD Phenom II x2 545 on a GigaByte GA-M68MT-D3 motherboard. Am I out of luck with this hardware, or is there a different loader that I need? thanks for any assistance.
  17. hello all, first of all, i would like to express how grateful and much appreciated all of your great hard works that you made this available for us for free. i've read and watch so many videos & articles saying Synology's DSN (some says it's sleeker & more user friendly & features-rich than FreeNAS) is great and i'm really interested to build mine with AMD AM4 socket, "Bristol Ridge" A8-9600. i really love the AM4 socket, if one day i decided to make use my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-AB350-Gaming 3 - supports NVMe/PCIe x4 32Gbps) for desktop use, i can just swap the CPU with higher end ones like Ryzen 5 or 7 series, add some GPU and add more RAMs. The reason i choose A8-9600 is that it's cheap and perform better (in cpubenchmark.net) than the Celeron J3455 that is in the DS918+. so, can i use AM4 A8-9600 for the xpenology? thanks for your support. Best wishes, Z

  20. I'm out of ideas of how to debug this, but perhaps someone else knows what's going on. This is probably not an Xpenology specific issue, but I'm sure others here have experience using the LSI 9211-8i and ESXi together. I recently did a new build for my NAS with the following hardware: Ryzen 5 1600 ASRock B350 Pro 4 Mobo WD Green m.2 SATA SSD (used as VM datastore only) LSI 9211-8i SAS Controller I am running ESXi 6.5u1 on this setup which was perfectly stable until I added the LSI 9211-8i SAS Controller, since adding this card the system crashes if left idle for more than 30 minutes. Timeline of events: Initially using a LSI 3081E-R controller in pass-thru mode (with test drives since I didn't realise >2TB drives were not supported when I picked up the card for $30.) Online - Several weeks without issue until my LSI 9211-8i controller arrived. Added LSI 9211-8i controller to DSM VM in pass-thru mode with 4x 4TB WD RED HDDs Did disk parity check performed on new SHR array. Took about 8 hours. Offline - Less than an hour after parity check completed the system 'hard locks'. Thought it might be a one-off incident. Rebooted the system, did another parity check to make sure everything was ok. Offline - Again, less than an hour after parity check completed the system 'hard locks'. Updated the firmware on the LSI 9211-8i to v20 using IT mode. Thinking the problem was solved as I was now using ESXi supported firmware, started a data transfer task of 8TB of data, this took about 18 hours and the system stayed online the entire time without a hitch. Data transfer finishes, feeling pretty confident the firmware upgrade has worked since it's been online for this long, spend a few hours doing benchmarks and setting things up. System was online for over 24 hours. Offline - An hour or so after I stop 'doing stuff' with the system, it's hard locked again. Thinking the issue might be IOMMU pass-thru support, I disabled pass-thru mode, installed the official driver from the vmware site for the LSI 9211-8i and mounted the disks into the DSM using ESXi Raw Disk Mappings. Offline - An hour or so after I stop 'doing stuff' with the system, it's hard locked again. Realised it's only crashing when the system is 'idle'. Looked into power saving modes, disabled "C-State" and "Cool 'n' Quiet" in the host bios. Also disabled all power saving features in ESXi. Offline - An hour or so after I stop 'doing stuff' with the system, it's hard locked again. This morning I hooked up a screen to the host in an attempt to see if there was a PSOD or any message before it locks, there was not - just a black screen. System not responsive to short-press power button or keyboard. Offline - less than 40 minutes after sitting idle from boot, it's hard locked again. In addition to the steps taken above, I have tried to find a reason for the lock ups in the ESXi logs, there is seemingly nothing, one minute it's working fine, then nothing until it's booting up again after I power cycle the system. There are no core dumps. Each time nothing was displayed on the screen of the host . It just seems odd the system would crash only when sitting idle - it would make more sense if it was crashing under load. Now these issues only started to occur once I added the LSI 9211-8i to the mix, the LSI 3081E-R did not cause these same issues. Do I just have a dodgy card? I don't want to buy another LSI 9211-8i if I'm going to have the same issues. Is there another card I should get instead? Are there any other settings I should try to make this system stable?
