Interesting design but I doubt that you can get much performance out of this when you take a look on the backplanes. Assigning one S-ATA cable to five ports cuts down the bandwith. It's different to "traditional" backplanes in major server systems which usually have SAS.

Try to deactivate all unneccessary options like Floppy, normal IDE controller (not the S-ATA), RS232, etc. Under "Integrated Periphals" check that "USB Functions" and "Legacy USB Support" are enabled.

No problems on 6 different bare metal systems.

I have several clients with "real" Synologys (DS212+. DS214+, DS1512+, etc.) and since they are running DSM 6.0-7321 they have some weird problems (as other users of Synologys report too). - MS Office error reports on Excel & Word files ("File is available as a newer version from another author") - missing warning message if an Office file from a share has already been opened on another workstation - wrong date & time stamps on recently created folders inside shares (up to 400 years in the future) Synology stated that they will release "a fix in the near future"... So it's not allways good to upgrade immediately on the newest version - especially in production environments.

Wie mein Vorredner schon sagte: man muss warten, bis die passenden Tools veröffentlicht wurden. Im Übrigen gibt es auf den echten Synologys mit DSM 6 teils schon unerfreuliche Probleme. Dies betrifft besonders MS Office Dateien. Werden diese von einer SMB-Freigabe geöffnet, nölt Office rum, dass diese in einer aktuelleren Version eines anderen Benutzers vorliegen oder der Hinweis, dass die Datei von einem anderen User geöffnet ist (Schreibschutz), entfällt. Teilweise gibt es auch dubiose Datumsänderungen von Ordnern (Bspw.: erstellt 01.02.2444). Ergo: lieber etwas warten und dafür ausgereiftere Versionen erhalten

Muss man auf der Clientseite - in diesem Fall der XPEnology - nicht folgendes eingeben? Also unter Server nicht Deine Domain, sondern deren Server?

Falls Du noch keine wichtigen Daten auf dem System abgelegt hattest bzw. noch nicht groß etwas konfiguriert hattest, würde ich das System einfach neu installieren ohne den Aufwand des Editieren der VERSION. Wichtig ist, während der Installation die Updates auf "manuelle Installation" zu setzen (3. Option im entsprechenden Fenster des DSM Setups). Damit verhinderst Du ungewollte und eventuell nicht funktionierende Updates.

BTRFS wird erst seit DSM 6 unterstützt. Also wirst Du wahrscheinlich das neueste Update vor Volume-Erstellung installiert haben. Dies ist jedoch (noch) inkompatibel mit dem 5644er Bootloader.

SSD caching isn't only about throughput but also for often accessed files/data. It's a kind of "intelligent" cache. But to be honest: a simple Gbit Ethernet connection isn't enough to reach the max. possible thoughput of such system.

Unter "normalen" Betriebssystemen können mit dem MegaRAID Storage Manager Alarme gesetzt werden, unter DSM wird das nicht möglich sein. DSM selbst sieht die VD ja nur als eine HDD. Mit einem klassischen und performanten HBA von LSI bist Du besser aufgehoben.

Der RAID Controller ist zwar kompatibel, kann aber keinen sog. IT mode (initiator target) bzw. es gibt AFAIK keine passende Firmware dafür. Der IT mode ist nötig, damit die HDDs einzeln an das System "durchgereicht" werden können, so wie es klassische HBA (Host Bus Adapter) machen. Du kannst also nur ein Volume auf einer VD verwenden.

Hast Du die Keys denn ausprobiert, bevor Du eine SN generiert hast? Ich meine in der XPEnology.

Normalerweise sollte es gehen, wenn Du vorher die Lizenz von der alten Nas deaktivierst und anschließend auf der XPEnology hinzufügst. So ging es bei meiner DS214+

Hast Du bereits versucht, diese Datei manuell zu ändern (via puTTy o.ä.)? /etc.defaults/VERSION Mit der aktuellsten Version sieht dies so aus: majorversion="5" minorversion="2" buildphase="hotfix" buildnumber="5644" smallfixnumber=5 builddate=2016/02/18 buildtime="12:35:31" Ändere mit VI die "smallfixnumber=5" auf "smallfixnumber=1", danach neu starten.

Ja, das geht. Das XPEnoboot stellt ja nur den Bootloader bereit, das eigentliche DSM liegt auf den HDDs.

Könnte auch ein Hardwarefehler am Mainboard sein, wenn Du mit LiveCDs schon nicht mehr an die Daten kommst. Oder aber ein spackeliges Netzteil. Jetzt, wo DSM wieder läuft, hast Du einmal die HDDs im Speichermanager mittels SMART überprüft? Gabs im "dmesg" über die Konsole eventuell noch Hinweise?

Hi. It's possible that DSM did a reset to your BIOS, nothing uncommon with the HP Microserver. Check your BIOS settings, change them to your needs and save them as default values. This ensures that the server will reload all necessary values next time it reboots or is being powerd off. Are the additional sources still listed within the package manager? If yes DSM should list all available packages under "Community" on the left side. It sometimes takes a minute or two for DSM to retrieve all new sources/packages. Yes, there's a howto available in this forum. Nope - a "valid" serial is needed for Synology's "Quick Connect". This is a feature which allows you to connect to your NAS from outside. It's not necessary to generate a valid serial to receive and install updates for DSM. But it would be wise to check the forum first when new updates are available.

Viele User verwenden meist HBA (Host Bus Adapter) für den Anschluss mehrerer und zusätzlicher Laufwerke. Im Gegensatz zu RAID Controllern reichen diese die HDDs direkt an das System weiter, was wiederum das Auslesen von SMART Werten ermöglicht. Die billigen S-ATA Karten, die man für 29,99 € mal kaufen konnte, wird wohl eher keiner verwenden. Sehr häufig werden LSI Controller verwendet, da diese auch mit am besten unterstützt werden: Ein HBA kann kein RAID! Rekursiv gibt es aber RAID Controller, die sich mittels Firmware in den sog. "IT-Mode" flashen lassen und dann als HBA arbeiten.

Wie sieht denn Deine Konfiguration aus, also Anzahl Platten, RAID, etc.? Hast Du die Möglichkeit, die HDDs in einen anderen PC zu hängen und dort mittels XPEnology boot stick zu starten?
