@jadehawk this is a dell server ... As you can see the maximum latency is 1 ms... i will assume that microserver an entry server and with sometimes hdd 5400rpm and nas ones lets assume 10ms as maxium... i'm getting 40 so yes... i think is bad One of the links where you can improve tour performance... https://www.johandraaisma.nl/fix-vmware-esxi-6-slow-disk-performance-on-hp-b120i-controller/

If you search on Google for gen8 esxi performance fix you will get a lot of results for the fix. The max latency accepted for a normal esxi is 10ms of latency... Maybe what you find is 20ms for this controller... But even if that is the case 40 is the double :/ some user buy other controllers to overcome this issue but is a more radical option...

Maybe you still have the new esxi driver that cause you this issue. My xpenology only have vpn, synthing, sonar and radar, and the nfs share for kodi ... but in esxi i have a linux vm and the performance is boring me... I'm serious considering moving to proxmox 5.3... its hard because this solution esxi+xpenology is almost straight forward...

@jadehawk hello i have a similiar settings... but i came from esxi 6.5... then upgrade to 6.7. I also have the 6.2 dsm in datastore (ssd on odd port) and then rdmap to two hdd ... but lattely i'm thinking about moving away from esxi... i get very bad latency in esxi... i get high of 40ms latency. I already change the driver for the older one but never get better than that. Can you report your latency? Is like mine? Thanks

Please inform, I have a vm that I deploy with the ovf here that have Jun version 1.01alpha - can the loader be updated to Jun 1.01b ? If not can anyone share an ovf with 1.01b? Thanks

How did you managed to add rdm to the dsm6 vm ? I get errors every single time; can you export and upload an ovf please ? How are you adding them rdm? Assuming that the error is related with space.... If you are doing it via web ui and the rdm disk is bigger than your datastore i can't do it because a bug, you have two options: - use the windows vsphere client - Update the web host client (https://labs.vmware.com/flings/esxi-emb ... ost-client) I use the second method because if you use the first, then i can't edit again the vm using the web ui. Notice however that the updateve version is a from labs... so not so stable like the one from esxi 6u2

The method you have been trying is for non-uefi intel baremetal builds not VM's. I'm working with two methods... the esxi always working...

I already try that ... with the last link ... with the file synoboot.zip i think is that jun refer's... what you understand from the post? Even with the ramdisk from that synoboot.zip keeps in loop. For know i have everything up and running using esxi... and the drives with rdm... so is kind of easy keep trying and keep the data "secure"

I'm not sure what the problem is so I can't suggest any alternative solution. I have tried to explain what worked for me the best I can. Beyond that I can't really help sorry. Now after i reboot and try again i get the message that i must reinstall the dsm... but i still get the 13 error... maybe is this the installation loop from old posts?

@CtrlAltDel sorry but if i'm using gen8boot.img i think i don't need do that... or i'm wrong? the gen8boot.img from what i read and understand already have a "good" romdisk... or i'm wrong? What i did now: 1 - download gen8boot.img 2 - Mount the img file, and change vid and pid. 3 - Download the excel file to get a serial number and a mac (don't know the correct procedure... i just copy the values from the file... and paste it to the grub file, the mac should be the mac from my nic?) 4 - Burn the img 5 - Boot 6 - Try to install the .pat, get the error 13 again. So maybe my problem is in step 3... what mac should i put in the grub.cfg my nic mac or the mac that excel file gives based on the generated serial? If the mac in the grub should be the same from the excel is needed some thing to change my nic mac? PS: What is OP ?

I have iLo connected as well. Have you added Jun's romdisk file and added the vid, pid, ser and mac to the grub config? And have you setup the console in bios? If you have done all of that it should work. Did you checksum your pat file? Now i'm get very confused... With setsunakawa (hybridbiosuefi2.img) what is needed? I assume with this image is burn and run in gen8 bare metal, i'm wrong? With sweebee's image (gen8boot.img) i burn and run (the only problem i have with this is that i can't install the pat file), md5 checked but get error 13 at 40-53% Please guide me here, with any of this images is need change anything? vid, pids etc?

I'm too. Only nic 1 connect, and ilo, but that i think don't count. The firts img i use boots well, only can't migrate/install pat file. This i burn the pen (like the other) and after 10 minutes still no ip given

Try the PS solution, the hybridbiosueri2.img in gen8 bare metal, but after 10 minuts no ip is set... i have network leds, but no ip is given... so no network @sweebee You need to read the OP which covers the improper shutdown and how to work round it. If you have a Gen8 or a system with console emulation set-up the serial console in bios. Otherwise you need to edit the files that try to output to the console. I'm not sure if that img works try the part in blue above that worked for me. Other than that your NIC may not be supported? You need an Intel based system or you will need to wait for an img that supports AMD's. My gen8 is intel G1610T...

@CtrlAltDel the image i use maybe working if i will use a clean install but that isn't my case. I will try the link you post and try the migration. Poll: With gen8 bare metal or esxi (i'm not decided yet :/)
