For a better result I will make the following change: - add a sata controller and connect hdd 1 (xpe.vmdk) to it on port sata0:0 - move hdd2 (xpe_1.vmdk) to scsi controller 0 port 0 and remove scsi controller 1 In this way you will see in DSM only data disk and not the boot disk with state "not initialised" Ciao ema

Do you have any info on getting that to work? I tried it the other day and failed, so assumed it wasn't supported by XPE. Reboot your gen8 and enter bios (F9). If I remeber well you must disable BIOS serial console, because if you don't do it, when you launch VSP you will see gen8's bios console... Select "BIOS serial console & EMS" >> "BIOS Serial console port" and disable it. Now go to "System Options" >> "Serial Port Options" >> "Virtual Serial Port" >> I have enabled "COM1;IRQ4;3F8h-3FFh" Now exit Bios utility and reboot. Be sure to enable SSH access in iLO (Adrministration >> Access Setting) Now open an SSH session to ilo ip unknown:~ ema$ ssh 10.0.0.100 ema@10.0.0.100's password: User:ema logged-in to ILOXXXXXXXXXX.local(10.0.0.100 / XXXX::XXXX:XXXX:XXXX:XXXX) iLO Advanced 2.50 at Sep 23 2016 Server Name: gen8.lan Server Power: On >hpiLO-> ...and at ilo prompt you must launch VSP. Now restart DSM and you can see serial output and prompt login... >hpiLO-> VSP Virtual Serial Port Active: COM1 Starting virtual serial port. Press 'ESC (' to return to the CLI Session. gen8 login: PS sometimes I can't write anything via serial console, but I don't know why... EDIT ok, I figured it out... you must press return during post to activate serial console... Ciao ema

HP Gen8 with integrated dual nic Upgrade is working but no network after reboot... I connect to my Gen8 with iLO VSP (iLO Virtual Serial Port) and I found that there are 2 file missing from /lib/modules after upgrade: libphy.ko and tg3.ko I have found these two files under /lib/modules/update so I copied them under /lib/modules (don't forget to chmod 644 them) and reboot... now network is working again. I think, as Jun's said, there's something related to update script to fix... but, as other said, clean install work. Ciao ema

Have you read this?: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1377-page8.html Yes. To reduce noise you have to use raid mode. To use Raid mode you must have the driver in Xpenology - hence the requst to include it My gen8 updated to the latest bios/firmare/ilo in AHCI mode with 2 disk (slot 0 e 1) is very silent... ilo report fan 12% ciao ema

The kernel image and ramdisk form Jun's 1.0 bootloader is identical to original 8451 version of synology_bromolow_3615xs pat file. In one earlier post Jun wrote that Intel image is not modified, only AMD image. In Update 4 they updated kernel but stayed on label 8451. Anyway the kernel image is binary different to the jun's 1.0 kernel image. In ramdisk they updated: /etc/VERSION (increased patch version number) /usr/sbin/raidtool Hard to say what happened. For better debugging you need serial cable. HP Microserver Gen8 have a virtual serial console, so I try it just for fun >hpiLO-> vsp Virtual Serial Port Active: COM2 Starting virtual serial port. DSM 6.1.x Loader

I was asking myself the same thing and I have done some testing on my gen8 with jun's 1.0.1 I replaced only zImage and gen8 boot succesfully Before admin@gen8:/$ uname -a Linux gen8 3.10.77 #8451 SMP Wed Aug 17 05:12:41 CST 2016 x86_64 GNU/Linux synology_bromolow_3615xs After admin@gen8:~$ uname -a Linux gen8 3.10.77 #8451 SMP Wed Nov 9 13:45:32 CST 2016 x86_64 GNU/Linux synology_bromolow_3615xs So I think the kernel has been updated... but no version change!? What does it mean? After I tried to replace also ramdisk.lzma... the gen8 boot, stay up only few seconds (Synology Assistant show it) and then it shutdown... [edit] After rebooting the gen8 with correct ramdisk.lzma from jun's I can see this error on system events >> Abnormality detected on gen8. All volumes have been unmounted. ciao ema

    dsm 6.0

Update 4 is out...I update my test machine without problem. As you have explained, if the update contains a new kernel, this will not be active. If I want to test the new kernel from update 3, which file I have to copy where? Ciao ema
