  1. I am currently on esxi 6.0 and xpenology as a vm within it. I too suffer the high fan speed issue where ambient temp is 27c and fan spins no lower than 35% when idle. None of those reported success with the modded hp-ams mentioned they are on esxi 6.0 or baremetal, I assume they are on baremetal. Can someone advise will this hp-ams mod work for esxi 6.0? If it is esxi 6.0 that I am on, does it matter which modded version I choose? thanks

You need AMS for ESXi, not XPEnology. If you used the HPE custom ESXi ISO, you should already have it.

If not grab the HPE offline bundle and install that.

  2. Hey!

I found out that after doing an Factory Reset, the Error would be gone. Haven't seen it since then. But it seems like my favorite Apps aren't updated to 6.1 yet  Need an Usenet Downloader, something like SABnbzD or NZBget. Anyone an idea if there's a similar software?

As i've seen yet, no SABnzbd, no Midnight Commander.. :/

Add the SynoCommunity repo to the package manager.

  3. I connect to my Gen8 with iLO VSP (iLO Virtual Serial Port)

Do you have any info on getting that to work? I tried it the other day and failed, so assumed it wasn't supported by XPE.

  4. SOLVED!

    1. During installing the usb loader went corrupted (tried twice). So after install you had to clean the usb drive(all partition) and reflash image.

    2. Upgrade not work. so the only working route is to choose clean install (data folder are not deleted, you only have to rejoin domain or recreate user and assign permission. App are lost instead)

Your apps are only not installed, all your data is still there, if you backup the @appstore folder before you reinstall your apps, you can copy back the var folder to retain settings.

  5. "Clean" install went fine. As nothing is deleted you can copy the /volume1/@appstore/*/var directory from your apps somewhere and restore it back.

Slower than an upgrade, but not difficult by any stretch.

  6. I've got a broken network config, DSM is completely inaccessible. On older versions this wouldn't be a big deal as you can access the console locally to make repairs.

Can't do that on the 6.0 loader.

Mounting the drives in Ubuntu only gives access to /volume1 so can't fix it there. Force reinstall keeps the broken settings.

On a proper Syno unit you can reset them without losing any data, is there a way to do that on XPE at all?

  7. I have a minor issue, when I reboot XPE a small customisation is lost; a change to /etc/passwd

Until I modify it, a few packages wedding launch (as I changed the user they run as).

Any idea what's causing it, or is it just a DSM6 thing, as it was fine on previous versions.

  8. Got my Gen8 upgraded. Seems there is now a built in apps group which ruined my custom one so some packages wouldn't run without some changes.

It causes a bit of odd behaviour in that after a short period of running iLO will crash and the fans will ramp up. This is only temporary as it recovers after a while.
