  1. hi! Installed dsm on esxi 6.7 and almost never goes over 30% cpu usage. Right now is thumbnailing and indexing lots of pictures, but on dsm and esxi cpu usage never peaks 100%. I tried compressing a big folder with lots of files at maximum compression and then it reaches 100%. Right now is indexing and cpu is at 2-3%. IIRC when I tried on baremetal it worked the same way Specs HP micro server G8 Xeon E3-1270v2 16GB RAM HP Smart Array P410 in IT mode VM: DSM 6.2-23739 2 vcpu x1 socket each. No limit established 12GB RAM 3x2TB WD red drives connected directly to dsm (passthrough)
  2. Nice, really really nice! But, does it really impact on normal use? What is your experience?
  3. Interesting.... maybe I could try to "upgrade" the package....
  4. it's not a slow machine, and I already read that url. Anyway thanks for the help
  5. Hi I've been searching the config file for thumbnail creation but I can't find it. I'm running xpenology under esxi with 8 Cores (xeon L5630) and 16GB ram. My goal would be to speed up the creation of thumbnails allowing more thumbs at the same time, or more cores, or more priority.... So, can you help me?
  6. Working great under ESXi 6.7u3 Thanks a lot!
  7. On tutorial it says "now add another sata device" please edit it and write "now add another sata controller" I was going mad trying to setup new drives as sata1:0 without adding a second controller. Later I noticed the second controller in a couple pics below.... Another sata device can lead to misunderstandings. I'm rereading my sentences and it seems that I'm complaining, but that's not true, English is not my mother tongue. I'm just trying to help. Also when uploading the files I created a folder (xpe3615) and then I created the new vm with the same name, xpe3615. I think that this created a conflict or similar in ESXi (because the name of the upload folder and vm folder is the same). I just began again with different names and it worked. Maybe it's only me, its 2:30AM and I'm very tired..... Thanks a lot for the tutorial.
  8. Not sure, but I think it's not possible, there is a database that stores sorting and other things...
  9. Please read this: It can be very helpful to you.....
  10. What went wrong with your installation? Try first with another disk (not one of the four from 918+) and when you can install 6.2.1 and log in, shut down and put the 4 disks from 918+. System detects that hdd come from another Synology box and makes a migration. This is the easy part.
  11. So if I have a J3355 and it is at 800mhz on idle and 2000mhz normal and 2500mhz on turbo, my parameters would be: lowload: 040 midload: 065 highload: 085 scalingminfreq: 800000 scalingmaxfreq: 2000000 Is this right? I don't know if it is safe to test speeds (for example putting 400mhx on scalingminfreq)
  12. Well why not? Aplying the right config changes..... But you can buy a HBA like dell H200 and plug in 8 drives. I'm no expert, but there are plenty of HBA, even for more drives, and with port multipliers the amount of hard drives you can connect grows. For example, Petabytes on a budget: How to build cheap cloud storage, they use only 4 sata cards and 9 multipliers to connect 45 drives
  13. ok, thanks a lot. Don't know why but I only found info about satamaxports and something in hexadecimal
  14. Running system (baremetal) with 1.02b loader and DSM 6.2-23739 System: Supermicro X8sil-f with 6 Sata ports xeon x3440 8 GB RAM rdimm Dell h200 HBA in IT mode 8 sata ports I tried sataportmap=68 and a lot of combinations more, but it doesn't work. Right now I have 8 disks connected, 4 to mono and 4 to H200. I wanna connect 6 more. Can someone explain me or send me a link on how to achieve this???
  15. I bought a microserver G8 and updated it to 1270v2 and 8GB RAM in total. Running esxi with various vms like DSM & windows/linux with passive cooling. No need active cooling. DSM works very well, but only running PMS and download station....
  16. o incluso fallo de placa base....
  17. Hi With the information you give I can't help you, but maybe if you give some more information.... 1.- Why another usb (loader)? As far as I remember it's the same 2.- Remove all HDD and boot and enter bios. unselect ASUS logo screen. Is there any error on screen? (maybe it's trying to boot from a hdd and not from usb) 3.- Download MD5 file for the .pat you downloaded and check it 4.- Remove all connections from motherboard, everything, from fans to power cord including RAM, unplug the button battery and wait at least 10 minutes. then plug back the battery (and the mininum cables, memory, etc) and do a clear cmos. Then boot the computer again, configure bios and try again. The info is there, but you don't know how to see it (if the hdds are ok, of course). You can mount the disk in a linux machine and do a backup. My recommendation would be: Buy a 4/5/6TB external usb disk to do backup and burn a cd with some live linux on it. Copy data to the external usb hdd and then try to reload the dsm....
  18. The model I tried is Kingston SA400 128GB, so, not compatible..... I'm gonna try a AV400 as for AndreyATGB seems to work
  19. Hi! Is it possible to run xpenology with a M.2 adapter? Being the speeds much more high than ssd I suppose it would be a great improvement.
  20. Hi I'm trying to find information about SSD cache. I installed 2x128GB Kingston ssd and they are incompatible with ssd cache. I think there is a HCL for ssd cache but I can't find it. So here are my questions: 1.- Is there any HCL out there? 2.- Is it worth it? 3.- Someone has a ssd working that is not in the HCL? 4.- Is it possible to run a M.2 adapter, something like Synology's M2D17?
  21. Some original Synology hardware runs on ARM as the raspberry pi. So there must be possible. But when comparing specs about Raspberry pi and the hardware that xpenology users have (there are a lot of G7/8 micro servers and Asrock mini-it boards) the difference is huge. In my opinion the major advantages of penology are the apps and raid. In a raspberry there is almost impossible to run a raid and various apps at the same time. The main problem regarding this issue is that running synology OS on a raspberry pi is another project than XPenology. From what I know, you must get the source and compile it for the ARM the raspberry pi has (there are a lot of ARM chips), and that is far beyond my skills. So, to keep it simple: no, it's not possible

  23. 1.- Enable ssh in DSM web UI 2.- ssh to our DSM (in Mac/linux - ssh user@dsm_ip, from windows putty or similar) 3.- cd /usr/syno/etc/packages 4.- sudo cp feeds feeds.old 5.- edit feeds with vi, nano or similar (remember sudo before nano feeds) delete line add text below save & exit text to add: [{"feed":"http://packages.synocommunity.com/","name":"Synocommunity.com"},{"feed":"https://www.cphub.net","name":"https://www.cphub.net"},{"feed":"http://cytec.us/spk/","name":"http://cytec.us/spk/"},{"feed":"http://jaspr.kastner.wtf/","name":"http://jaspr.kastner.wtf/"},{"feed":"http://packages.jdel.org/","name":"http://packages.jdel.org/"},{"feed":"http://packages.page81.net/","name":"http://packages.page81.net/"},{"feed":"http://packages.pcloadletter.co.uk/","name":"http://packages.pcloadletter.co.uk/"},{"feed":"http://spk.diablos-netzwerk.de/","name":"http://spk.diablos-netzwerk.de/"},{"feed":"http://spk.naefmarco.ch/spkrepo/packages","name":"http://spk.naefmarco.ch/spkrepo/packages"},{"feed":"http://spk.nas-mirror.de/spkrepo/packages","name":"http://spk.nas-mirror.de/spkrepo/packages"},{"feed":"http://spk.synologyitalia.com/","name":"http://spk.synologyitalia.com/"},{"feed":"http://syno.dierkse.nl","name":"http://syno.dierkse.nl"},{"feed":"http://synology.acmenet.ru/","name":"http://synology.acmenet.ru/"},{"feed":"http://www.hildinger.us/sspks/","name":"http://www.hildinger.us/sspks/"},{"feed":"https://synology.cambier.org/","name":"https://synology.cambier.org/"},{"feed":"spk.unzureichende.info/","name":"spk.unzureichende.info/"},{"feed":"synology.sysco.ch","name":"synology.sysco.cht"},{"feed":"http://spk.netzbaer.de","name":"http://spk.netzbaer.de"},{"feed":"http://synorepo.tk","name":"http://synorepo.tk"},{"feed":"https://get.filebot.net/syno/","name":"https://get.filebot.net/syno/"},{"feed":"synology.nzbusenet.com","name":"synology.nzbusenet.com"}] PS1: If you wanna edit the text, after feed add the address of the repo you want to add. After name, put the name of the repo added before. Remember insert a comma between repos and everything is in the same line. I think is easy to understand, if you have problems put your repo and I'll add it.

    DSM 5 vs DSM6
