  1. It might be worth it to go over to a different forum engine, and of course bringing all the data too, keeping the current one as a read-only archive. NodeBB for example provides great user experience OOTB, tons of easy-to-use plugins, and the whole thing is just better in terms of security, usage, and overall, than phpBB. I understand that it requires a dedicated host, and a simple web hosting won't work, which in turn increases costs, but it is always an option to add ads (and I could also provide hosting through Azure, as long as monthly expenses do not go over 130€ - this would increase access speed and decrease forum outages).

I could succesfully register one of your provided serials, but as soon as I want to activate the QuickConnect service I get the 'unknown error' popup message. Is it because of a not paired MAC address? I ask because even if I use my DS414 MAC & serial I get the same error (although it worked with update1 of DSM 6.1). No, it isn't related.

Yes, I even didn't know that it costs and for what it is necessary until everything didn't fly at all few weeks ago. Always the used real IP and also free DDNS from the third-party supplier. But not all have Real of IP. But here recently noticed that the supplier of DDNS gives a similar fukntion - OVH (is in the list in settings). QuickConnect is not simply DDNS, it's a reverse proxy for your NAS, hosted by Synology. It is a paid service, the price is included in the HW you buy. Since none of us are buying the hardware, we are not exactly eligible to use the services. And about that I agree with Polanskiman. You simply have to look for another reverse proxy service that works for you.

Well feel free to use any of the serials from the image, I've removed them from my account.

The MAC generator part was removed at the request of Polanskiman. And I've just generated a bunch of 3617xs serials, and it works fine: http://imgur.com/a/61P2I

I tried to generate. I received 1530ODN717436. I entered into Synology Account, and I was responded that not a correct format. Sorry, made a mistake, it should be corrected now. Replace the first two numbers (15) with 14, and it should work.

Thanks for providing the new serial format, and the permanent characters for the DS3617xs! I've made an updated generator, you can find it here. Also found an issue in your method. When you generate the serial, you do not care about the padding of the numbers after the "N". It MUST be 6 characters in total. So it cannot be simply "11", it has to be something like "001001" or "000011" or "100001".

Seems to me your partitions were screwed up, so yes, starting from scratch might be the cleanest solution.

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

It has been discussed before. Next time please use the search engine in the upper left corner. The way to do it is to boot into a live Linux distro, erase the contents of each hard disk's first partition (mount, then remove all files), then boot back into XPE. It should still say "recoverable"/"repairable", but you'll be able to run the install wizard with 6.0.2 again.

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

Guys, FFS. READ MY F***** COMMENT: It's not that hard to understand that DS3615xs "v1" format serials DO NOT WORK ANYMORE. I hope this makes things clear. I'll update the serial generator as soon as I have some free time to think about the logic needed to do it. So if any of you has some experience with JavaScript, you're welcome to help. On the other hand, it would be nice to have a few "v2" format serials (the ones that are similar to "1480MIN######", as per another online generator), with the respective models and MAC addresses of that unit, so that we can get things rolling again.

The loader already changes your MAC address, though it is only needed for the online services to work, AFAIK. Changing the serial will NOT trigger a reinstall, though I have not tested this. My generator uses the exact same logic the Excel generator does, with the exception of only generating serials for the DS3615xs. I'm working on integrating a drop-down selector for model changing, though.

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

Synology has changed the serial format about two years ago. I suppose they noticed that a LOT more DS3615xs has been registered than sold, and such, they made the move to the new format. I checked with support, if you encounter the "invalid serial no format" error on myds.synology.com, you need to send an e-mail to them, with a photo of the serial number sticker of your NAS. They will send you a converted new format serial that you can register, and your NAS will be able to work through QuickConnect. Unless you want to use QuickConnect, though, you do not need to register your NAS or sign in with a Synology account. Also, sidenote - made a better serial generator (not better on UI, but hey it's WIP!). It's available at the XPenology repository on GitHub. There's also a (not yet finished) tutorial for using the 1.01 loader on bare-metal. All comments, recommendations are welcome. The repo also hosts all of Jun's loaders so far, with proper release markings.
  14. Also, for ease, I've published some repos for now: https://github.com/XPEnology
  15. This question is mainly for active devs like Trantor and Jun. I'm assembling an organization on GitHub to track releases, issues, driver requests, how-tos, and such. A curated collection of XPEnology loaders, tutorials, a singular common place to go for information (not discussion!), to make discovering new releases easier, and of course to have a community-maintained collection of tutorials for all versions, all functions. And for this I'd like to catalog the kernel releases. However since I'm not a mod/loader builder, I do not know which source to use. Currently the supported x86/x64 options from Synology are: On 6.0: - Pineview - Evansport (probably shouldn't use, quite old 32-bit arch with old kernel) - Cedarview - Bromolow - Braswell - Avoton On 6.0.2: - Pineview - Evansport - Cedarview - Bromolow - Braswell - Avoton - Broadwell - Grantley On 6.1: - Pineview - Evansport - Cedarview - Bromolow - Braswell - Avoton - Broadwell - Grantley - KVM x64 (for virtualizing DSM?) - Docker x64 (for virtualizing DSM?) (Color code: blue for new ones in release, green for ones that exist in all versions listed, red for not recommended) So the question is, which seems to be the best kernel base to continue working on? In my opinion (but please note I do not exactly know what kernel patches have been added to the base itself) the best, most universal choice would be using either KVM or Docker base for future releases, with the loaders being micro Linux distros that only load kernel modules, Docker/KVM and a web management interface (e.g. Portainer for Docker), and a container/VM configured for Synology. Since they allow virtualization on a DSM host, it should be relatively easy to copy the mechanism and get around the nasty hacks required to boot the OS on non-official hardware. On the other hand, releases marked with green have been out for all 6.x releases, meaning a loader can be made using those sources for all 6.x DSM releases.
  16. But with a new clean install you can't use SHR again. Only the DS916p (from the 3 Loaders I mean) support this. Also in the 916 the CPU arquitecture is brasswell. Ideal for 3050 , 3060.... But i tried it on asrock n3150-itx And can't run. I think for the network chip. (rtl8111gr) It does not matter. The thing is, all loaders use a single kernel version (I think either Avoton or x64, on 5.2 I remember most devs used Bromolow), with multi-platform support enabled. Unless Synology made optimizations in HAL, I doubt there's an actual difference between loader builds (apart from the indicated CPU string).

In that case a privately hosted github repo should work? With a private repo the issue tracker, wiki, etc. wouldn't be available Anyhoo, I made an organization for the whole shebang for now, and soon I'll begin to post revised guides, repos for various projects, et cetera. But first I need to ask permissions from some of the devs (which might prove difficult since most of them don't browse the forums daily). Oh also I made an XPEnology Discord server for the less forum-specific discussion. Will set up rules, channels, whatnot a bit later and post an invite link in a separate thread.

That could also mean that 1.02 will be 6.1 sources based AND out of alpha But we'd definitely need a better organized thread, and definitely better organized releases (possibly even on Github?) Yep. This thread really is out of hand now. At the very least, and as I've suggested before, please start a new thread for 6.1.. Some sort of proper repository for the code would be great.. #H The project is not open source, if you didn't notice. My suggestion for GitHub was because of their awesome issue tracking and release managing system.

Thoughts? Well I do have concerns about GitHub, since they're so keen on obeying any kind of DMCA takedown request - and those are easy to come by. Synology could say the bootloader collides with one of their trademarks or copyrights, and bam, repo down.

Did you try to change the order of loading kernel modules as mentioned here http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=24308&p=82646#p82626? Please see my setup below. The thing is, it worked for roughly 3 weeks now, without an issue. I tried a few other options since XPEnology has its own shortcomings (mainly on the Docker front, my Portainer setup crashes every ~24 hours and requires total rebuilding from zero), and it does not support a few features I'd like to enable in the future (e.g. using the built-in WiFi of my mobo). But still it's the best NAS OS available to date.

You could try adding a second NIC and disconnecting your primary connection, that worked in vmware for me. Otherwise, there are plenty of instructions around doing this properly, ie mounting the img file, changing the vid, pid and mac address... I am very well aware of doing this "properly". However for some days now I've been having the issue of not being able to see the device on network no matter what I do. Last night it went so bad that even my router's "connected devices" tab fritzed out and refused to show any. Since my network is not exactly standard setup (main router broadcasts a hidden SSID network with MAC filter, luckily the filter does not work on 5GHz networks, so I use a secondary router, an Asus AC66U_B1 to repeat the signal as my own network, including LAN), I can't set a fixed IP for it at all.

Is there a way to disable the MAC changing aspect of the loader? I think that might be causing the problem with my network at the moment, and no matter what I set as MAC address, no loader shows up on the network.

For me the DS3615xs loader also stopped working after ~24 hours, and it was in general a lot slower (web UI access, saving and loading config, etc.)
