  1. Or it is tied to QuickConnect? Also do all Synology mobile apps tie to QuickConnect now. I cannot seem to make any of them work even on LAN.
  2. I determined the SHR volume is beyond recovering now. I just hope I won't have more trouble restore from back up. Still need to re-establish the music and video library. the computer is a Lenovo ts440, with 5 internal sata ports and 8 hotswap HDD. Last time I dealt with 12 drive limit was before using ESXi VM. If I have remembered that two minutes earlier, I shouldn't have any trouble by now.
  3. I have run DSM 5.2 for quite a while. Initially on HP microserver, then on ESXi. upgraded a couple of times(from dsm4). didn't have issue. This time, I upgraded from 5.2 to 6.1, also from ESXi to directly run on Lenovo ts440. It took me a while to make upgrade and migration work because I initially downloaded wrong loader image. When it finally worked, I noticed one of the 6 disks that make up my primary volume is missing. files are still fine though, but the volume was in 'degrade' state. Before I realized it was because DS3615 support upto 12 internal drives by default, and just by chance the missing drive was on the 13th slot, I did a couple of thing trying to identify which drive was missing and if it was damaged. - ... multiple try to pull out individual drive -- now two drives were missing. but I can get SHR back once I everything back - I narrow down to one of three drives, so instead of pulling them one by one, I rotate them in different slot. Let me call them A, B, C and this is in original slot order; after switch, the order became B, C, A. - now I can see that C was originally missing, but now A is missing and C appears but has error access system partition. and now the volume is "crashed". Now I think the fatal step was that I opt to "repair" the system partition on C at this point. I should have put everything back at this point. Of course I still don't have all the drives, but I finally remembered 12 disk limit by DS3615's default, and I change that to 24, expecting all would be good. However I was present with the degraded volume with 0 size and 0 available space, and the shared directories disappeared from both web interface and ls -l command (ssh remote in). the missing drive becomes available drive, so I can use it to 'repair' the volume. I started to really worry now, but still remain hopeful that after repair I will be able to recover some data. I was wrong. after repair I have a volume with full size (about 13T), but all used, and 0 byte free space, and all folders are still missing. I did back up my photo/home video folders, home folders, and shared document folders. I do wish to get my video library, music, and ebook libraries back, so that I don't need to go back the the original media (some might not here anymore). I am quite comfortable with linux command line, if someone can point out a way to recover the data it would be very much appreciated!!! Thank you in advance!
  4. did import the new certificate, no luck. in the end, the solution is very simple: Go to 'Package Station', click the 'setting' tab, and change the 'allow installation of package published by' to 'any publisher' It is odd xpenology does not recognize the publisher's certificates.
  5. Hi, I am running DSM 5.2-5565 Update 1 on ESXi 5.5. It was migrated from HP N40L. Only recently I noticed that I cannot install new package or update existing packages. For example, when I try to update the "audio station", it downloads installer fine, but fails during installation with error message: "Failed to update "Audio Station", This package is published by an unknown publisher." Although the audio station is developed by Synology. I cannot install new packages either. Always have error: "Failed to install ****" Anyone has encountered same issue? How to fix it? Thanks!
  6. It is surely big. But it will be in the basement anyway.
  7. Seems that there are plenty of older servers with dual Xeon CPU on ebay. They are priced $250~$350 shipped. For example this one that has dual L5520 CPU, 16GB or ram, 12x HDD bay (6 connected) for $335 shipped. Is there reason that it is a bad idea to add my own 2~4TB hdd and install Xpenology on it? thanks!
  8. I am eyeing this motherboard with 14 sata /sas ports: SUPERMICRO MBD-X10SL7-F-O (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4680) Newegg has good price on it right now.

  10. Hi, wondering if anyone tried this motherboard "SUPERMICRO MBD-X10SL7-F-O uATX Server Motherboard LGA 1150 Intel C222 DDR3 1600". It looks like reasonably priced, with features suitable to NAS. What interests me is that it has total 14 sata/sas ports on board: 4 x SATA 3.0Gb/s + 2 x SATA 6.0Gb/s 8x SAS2 (6Gbps) ports via LSI 2308 It also has two Gbit LAN port (Intel I210-AT) I am thinking of using it for a custom Xpenology build. But want to know first if these hardware are supported? Also what (inexpensive) CPU would you recommend? Thanks!
  11. Just saw this: Disabled SATA IDE combined mode in BIOS, still no good. Sigh.. EDIT: while the booting message still says 4 out 5 drives active, the 'missing' drive actually shows up in the storage manager. I am rebuilding the array.
  12. I have the same problem when using gnoboot 10.5: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3114 Have you found a solution yet? I am still searching...
  13. put two lines in /etc/rc.local: insmod /lib/modules/pata_acpi.ko insmod /lib/modules/pata_amd.ko after reboot, the drive is still missing. My BIOS has been flashed with mod. So these drivers are not needed after all?
  14. Indeed, from the 10.5 changelog: So I lost the 5th SATA port and the on board ESATA port on the other hand: And my sandisk 5-drive esata case finally worked under Xpenology. Now, how do I "manually insmod these drivers"?
  15. EDIT: I have seen two other cases that gnoboot 10.5 + N40L misses SATA drive that is on the CDROM port. by using pata_amd pata_acpi and disable SATA/IDE combined mode, it seems to be working now :EDIT Not sure if anyone else has this problem, I lost the 5th SATA drive after upgrading to DSM 5.0. The drive is still visible in BIOS, but gnoboot says '4 out of 5' drives exist, and storage manager shows only 4 drives too. neither drive on the esata port nor the 5th sata (optical drive sata) drive show up. I know the drive is fine, because I swapped the 5th diver to slot 1, and it works and shows up fine and the drive 1 (now is on 5th sata port) not working. I already have the 'internalportcfg' set to oxfff in synoinfo; I already changed sata cable and tested power cable works. Any idea what I can do now? Thanks!
  16. Thanks for detailed post. Very good information I need to learn how to compile the driver for RR622 Before using Xpenology, I was running win8 on BIOS hacked N40L. The tower worked with the onboard esata port. So in theory, it could work. Performance is a different story though.

  18. The RocketRaid 622 card (comes with the 5-bay SansDigital TR5M+B esata tower) did not work in my N40L + Xpenology. From what I have read rocket 622 (not RR) does not even have port multipliers, at lease not without diver hacking. Would be nice to have N40L's own esata PM work. I got some hints (described in this post: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2272#p11931). but really need to read more to understand how it might work.

  20. I saw a thread from synology forums before. Synology users tried to remove the limit on Synology only esata unit. The posts are beyond my current understanding. But it might have useful information that kernel builder can use: http://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic ... 12&t=66228 One of the post points to libata: #ifdef SYNO_SATA_PM_DEVICE_GPIO tf.feature = reg & 0xff; tf.hob_feature = (reg >> 8) & 0xff; #endif tf.device = link->pmp; and said it has been changed (over different version, maybe??) from: tf.feature = reg; tf.device = link->pmp; Another mentioned he compiled a kernel with a patch libata-pmp.c . but did not specify what he had changed.
  21. I am still searching for the solution. only a few people have tried, but I did not see anyone succeed yet.
  22. I have not been able to make my 5-drive esata enclosure working on N40L. From the on screen message, it seems that the system recognizes the port multiplier, but won't allow connection. The conspiracy devil on my shoulder told me that Synology only wants people use their expansion units, like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Synology-Plug-n-U ... B003DTLXKG Anyone wants to give it a try? [EDIT. add expansion cable details] From Synology's product page: ...The Synology DX513 securely connects to the Synology DS1512+ via an eSATA cable of specially-designed connectors on both ends to ensure maximum throughput. ... So, the unit is connected by some type of eSATA cable, but the connectors on both ends are changed.
  23. Congrat on your 29 drive setup. Could you share how did you do it? Like cboy, I would like to have my estat box work with xpenology. But do not have luck so far. Thank you in advance! EDIT OK. I saw your other post: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2028&p=9934#p9934 I have a HP n40l, which has an esata port that should work as port multiplier, but I have not able to make it work with the 5bay sandigital esata enclosure yet.
  24. Hmm, my searching ability is bad. somehow I cannot find your solution in your other post. Could you post it again here, or paste in a link to it? Thanks!
  25. There were a few posts in the N40L thread, talking about how to make eSATA works. I think it works for connecting single drive to the eSATA port. I have a 5 drives eSATA tower, which I haven't be able to make it working with N40L server.
