  1. @CaptainfingerbangI had the same issue and found the solution. When using ARPL, you need to set the correct number of max drives when you configure the ARPL. when not setting this number manually, if you don't use enough internal discs, all additional USB drives will be seen as internal discs in their place. Like drives 21, 22 and so on. Setting the max number of drives correctly, will fix the problem. Number: ARPL disc + your internal discs. Like: 1 + 2 internal discs mean set it to max 3 discs. Then, all usb discs attached, will normally be seens as external discs.
  2. Update: I have figured out the problem and solution for this. It has nothing to do with DSM version, I created a DSM7.0 for testing and there USB discs were also as internal. My running Tinycore Redpill 0.4 DSM7.0 NAS does see USB external correctly. When using ARPL is used and you don't manually set the max sata drives, using USB discs will result in seeing them as internal drives! So, setting the max sata drives in the ARPL configuration, fixes this issue. For instance not correct: - Set manually 5 sata drives in ARPL (ARPL disc and 2 NAS sata discs) - Connecting 2 USB discs to the VM, will result in them being seen as internal (Internal drives 21 and 22 according to DSM) Correct setup: - Set manually 3 sata drives in ARPL (ARPL disc and 2 NAS sata discs) - Connectin 2 USB discs to the VM, will be seen as external drive like normal!
  3. Hi all, I've been running DSM 7.0.1 on my ESXI 6.7 host for a long time now and I'm trying 7.1 and 7.1.1 as AME now can be activated (need h265 codec for camera) without a Synology account. Since I'm running Surveillance station (and Plexserver) my internal discs can't be spun down. But usb disc still can be spun down (or hibernate). But in 7.1 and 7.1.1 usb discs are auto mapped to internal discs, which I don't want. I can't find any way to switch them back to external disc nor find anything about this online. This test is with a usb stick, but my main NAS runs 2x 4Tb HDD in a dual usb bay. Does anyone here know what can be done?
  4. - Outcome of the update: SUCCESSFUL - DSM version prior update: DSM 7.0.1-42218 - Loader version and model: Tinycore-Redpill v0.4.6 vmdk (VMware image) DS3622xs+ - Using custom extra.lzma: NO - Installation type: ESXI 6.7 After more trial and error, I adjusted a solution meant for baremetal from here: https://xpenology.com/forum/topic/53817-redpill-tinycore-loader/page/100/
  5. - Outcome of the update: UNSUCCESSFUL - DSM version prior update: DSM 7.0.1-42218 - Loader version and model: Tinycore-Redpill v0.4.6 vmdk (VMware image) - Using custom extra.lzma: NO - Installation type: ESXI 6.7 - Additional comments: I can't update to these version either: - 7.0.1-42218 Update 3 - 7.1-42621 RC After the update is loaded and the Synology reboots, DSM does not boot anymore. Web UI can't be accessed and can't even ping the IP.
