  1. Configure VideoStation or Plex and use DLNA to stream multimedia files from your NAS. From the TV point of view, you just have to connect it to the same network (preferably with cable) and then select NAS as source
  2. SATA II is more than enough for spinning disks. That's a measly 3Gbps interface that translates into 375MBps so far beyond any spinning disk possibilities which don't even hit 200MBps Keep those SATA-III interfaces free for other stuff (SSD) like you already did and don't worry.
  3. Depending on how much data you have on that initial disk, it might take days for a full 6TB drive Just make the following calculations: 50MB/s (worst case scenarion) * 3600 (/hour) you get 180.000MB/h (175GB/h) then you divide the actual occupied space from your 6TB drive to 175 So (if my math skills aren't somehow failing) to expand 5TB of data to a second drive, it would take at a 50MB/s data copy speed about 29h It could be more than that anyhow so be patient
  4. Add one drive, expand array, add another disk, and wait for array to expand. It's pretty simple but it needs a lot of patience as it takes up to several days, depending on how big the disks are and how much data there is in the existing array Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Try adding one HDD at a time Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Advantage: With a PCI-E x16 SATA adapter, you can have lots of HDDs on that MoBo Disadvantage: Not sure how it will work with Xpenology and less suited for Virtualization as it has only 2cores Please post your findings. We're keen to see results. Cheers! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Don't think so... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. There are different Q1900 boards. The Q1900-ITX has 2x SATA 3 and 2x SATA 2. For normal HDD you won't need more than SATA 2 (3Gbps/8=375MBps)! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. This is a section for Q1900 network issues now Sorry, can't help. A happy Hyper-V user here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I wanted to type 7 with adapters including the 4 native ones Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Buy one that's tested and has more ports that some MoBo that nobody used here. The Q1900-ITX is also low-power. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Why buy that board when you have only 2 SATA ports when you can take the ASRock Q1900-ITX which can hold up to 7 disks where 4 are natively available without any adapters? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. A1: Internal USB or SD A2: Install the XPEnology VM in the ESX datastore. The ds would be used also for other VMs. My suggestion is to use the disks in RDM (Raw Device Mapping). In this way, you could migrate the drives to another system (other host, other hypervisor type or physical system). Unfortunately, you will lack SMART in the DSM, but the drives will be monitored by ESX (hope i'm not wrong) A3: Because you have an uneven number of TB available on 3 HDDs, you can play a bit with different volume configurations but the best and easy option and my personal choice thinking also in the future where you'd buy more HDDs, is to use SHR1 raid type. Go at https://www.synology.com/en-us/support/RAID_calculator and play with the configurator and have in mind that if any of the disks would fail, you will be protected. Not sure about that 1TB of unused space if you could use it in a separate volume for data that's not important. Good luck!
  14. Activate remote desktop on that VM and connect to it remotely.
  15. I have about 10 machines in my home-lab on that Q1900 host, on a 480 GB SSD drive and they're running fine. USB devices (but not just USB) get mapped from the physical client to the virtual machine when connecting via RDP, so check your RDP settings. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Try to search for Shuttle’s XS36V4. I got it at work as a thin client and it's frickin amazing as a HTPC. Using the same J1900 platform but really really slim and small. I love it! Uh, cheap too. ~200€ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I also have 2012 R2 with HyperV activated and wouldn't go back to ESX. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. It works but you need to install ESXi with a GPU attached to the MoBo or to install ESX on another PC with a GPU (preferably Nvidia) and after finishing, just plug in the hdd with ESX in your nas Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. If you'd have the curiosity to check all posts in this thread, you'd find really nice stuff, more than you asked for. Briefly, yes you can use it but for a SSD but it's too damn expensive as you'd need a mSATA half-size one. You can buy for 5$ from ebay a mSATA to SATA adapter Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Happened to me first. It was mentioned on the forum but you didn't read the comment Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
