  1. Why use one unless it's for JBOD? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Well, you have 2 choices: 1. Take the "hypervisor HDD, mount it in another PC and start the ESX installation there. When done, just move the HDD back to the Q1900 PC. 2. Attach a standalone GPU to the Q1900 MB and perform the installation directly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. The J1900 is quad core @ 2GHz but it's not that fast. You can use it with Hyper-V for a home lab as I do but don't expect miracles. It has a TDP of 10W Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Hehe, I though you're away for good
  5. You buy more! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. -Why? You can run multiple VMs at once, on a low-powered machine. -Yes Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. no i do mean raid 5. I have 4 identical drives. Never digged in to what was better raid or shr... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk SHR is Synology's custom RAID. SHR-1 is equal to RAID5. SHR has the ability to use different size disks and expand to later added disks
  8. Very nice Gary, but seriously is there other difference. Also but kind of case are people using? is 4GB RAM enough? What is the best power supply to use with one of these with 4 hard drives? 2GB is more than enough! I have 1GB allocated to my DSM VM and look at the stats:
  9. The processor (Intel i3) is hardcoded in the DSM. If you use a hypervisor and add to the DSM VM only 1 core, DSM will still show you it sees i3 dual-core Cheer-up. It's working fine.
  10. 4HDDs and 1-2 wents will not consume more than 40W/hour. And I had it all measured.
  11. You could easily migrate data by setting up a backup/migration task. All you need is a network between the two DSMs and time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. No, it's not possible. Still, for me, by reading your post for the 3rd time, it's a brain-freeze. Why would you want or need to have multiboot with different versions? You can go virtual and test whatever you want. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I bet you're 100% lazy. Please read a bit more at least.
  14. Uh, you mean shr1 not raid5, right? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. How easy it was on a 1-10 scale? [emoji1] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. You need XPEnoboot. For a start, go to xpenology.nl (blog of a colleague) and there you'll find how to setup the initial xpenology box. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Solved. Right? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. WHAT the hell did you wanted to say? Take a look at my hypervisor, my small DIY cheap lab. Disks 2 and 3 are SSD based and run the VMs
  19. Mate, take my advice and go for a 180day installation of Windows Server 2012R2 add Hyper-V role and test xpeno as VM with passed-through disks but also the stability of the system. Don't give up. Mine is so stable with an UPS that I forget having it. Once the wife wanted to watch a movie and said "The NAS isn't working. I can't see it on TV." And I was "W T F?!?"... After doing some basic troubleshooting I found out that the router got stuck and wanted a reboot (after 382days) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. LOL. You made my day ) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Can't use HDMI. But it does provide a magnificent set of DLNA tools to stream videos. If you don't own a smart TV, go for a cheap but capable Android-based player that you attach to the TV via HDMI. Preferably one that has Ethernet too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. iSCSI works fine on 5.1-5022.2 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
