Hey everyone, I'm a tech minded law prof who knows he's been tempting fate by not having any sort of reasonable backup for a whole ton of stuff. The prices just always seem kind of unreasonable (he says as he discounts entirely the value of the stuff he could lose), but XPenology looks like an interesting alternative. I'm thinking about either installing on a Lenovo Stick 300-01 (Atom™ Z3735F Processor (1.33 GHz 2MB)) with 2gb ram and 32gb internal storage (emmc) or on an idle HP Compaq 8200 Elite (i5-2500 @ 3.30GHz, 3301 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processors, 8gb ram). I'd prefer the stick, but then would need to run a USB hub (it's usb 2.0, not 3.0) for drives and network connection (it only has 802.11n). The 8200 Elite is just larger than I'd like to have laying around. I think I have some other boxes in the basement. I should go look. But anyway, for now I'm off to the FAQ and the tutorials to see about whether this is worth doing or whether I should just bite the bullet and get a manufactured NAS box (Newegg's having a sale, of course).
