  1. The option I'm asking about is working just fine with other loaders I used but not with your loader. So it is logical to say that there is an issue with your loader which prevents this option from functioning properly. Anyone using your loader can verify this.
  2. No, I mean the desktop windows layout and position. If you click on the user icon on top right then click "Personal" then the personal settings window appears, Click "Others" then a window like screenshot above appears, First option if checked will save your desktop windows layout and position and restore them every time you log in. If not checked, the desktop windows layout and position will not be saved/restored. In your loader the desktop windows layout and position will not be saved whether the option is checked or not!. How to fix this? TIA!
  3. Thanks Peter for this great release! I tried other TCRP releases but yours is the most feature rich release!, I like it! But there is a small problem which is DSM does not save desktop layout status despite that the option is checked, I tried different models with the same problem, I use it in an ESXi VM. May be there is a loader option I have to turn on?!
  4. I solved this problem by changing the model to DS920+ which uses device tree for drive slot mapping. Now external USB drives are treated as so and not as fixed drives, and they appear as usb_share shared folder. But this model loader has support only for SATA controller, No support for SCSI/HBA controllers which means DSM cannot see drives attached to SCSI/HBA controllers. But that was fine in my case since I use SATA only. Despite this I'm still waiting for a solution to other models using sataportmap/diskidxmap slot mapping like DS3622xs+.
  5. Something is not right! Same thing happens with my USB flash drive It's type shown as HDD!
  6. In DSM 6 when I connect an external USB drive it will be available as usb_share shared folder. Now in DSM 7 the same external USB drive is shown in HDD/SSD page in Storage Manager as uninitialized drive AND it allows the drive to be included in a RAID array!!. The drive has data on it and can be accessed from my own PC. I want the DSM 6 behaviour, how to do that? Using ARPL 1.1-beta2a Model: DS3622xs+ DSM: DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 5
  7. thanks for the helpful insights IG-88! 🙂 What about the so called "Wear and tear"? I remember I read something that the more disks in an array the faster the wear and tear is. not sure how accurate is that and dj_nsk thankfully suggested it's something irrelevant and should be ignored.
  8. - Outcome of the update: SUCCESSFUL - DSM version prior update: DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 4 - Loader version and model: ARPL v1.1-beta2 (DS3622xs+) - Using custom extra.lzma: NO - Installation type: BAREMETAL - Asus Z170 Pro - Additional comments: Updated via DSM GUI
  9. thanks dj_nsk yeah what I got now is 64 TB array, if I break it into 2 raid5 arrays I will get 66 TB, which is nearly equal. I calculate any array size using Synology RAID Calculator I can't see much benefits of one large 8 disks SHR-2 array over two 4 disks raid5 except may be its more resilient. more speed? not a priority for me, It seems arrays with fewer number of disks are easier to maintain but less secure. I need more insights from experts!
  10. thx for the info dj_nsk Currently I got all disks in SHR-2 (2 parity disks). If I create two raid5 arrays the capacity is similar to an 8 disks single array but as you said it's more flexible, faster management operations (scrubbing, backup...etc).. but less secure? 2 parity disks vs 1 disk what about wear and tear? seem more disks means shorter disk life?
  11. If you have 8 disks will you create one big array or create 2 arrays? pros and cons for each? say 4 are 12 TB and 4 are 10 TB
  12. Good news! After I saw @flyride comments about DS3615xs being obsolete and advise to use DS3622xs+ instead I changed the model to DS3622xs+ and installation was a success and I can access my upgraded NAS DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 4 😀 Hope this will benefit someone else having a similar problem. Also it might be a bug with ARPL and @fbelavenuto may want to fix it.
  13. Hello, I have a working DS3615xs 6.2 installation of 8 disks using synology SHR. cpu intel i5-7500 mb Asus Z170 Pro Gaming I saw some members reported they successfully upgraded from 6.2 to 7.1 using ARPL. I downloaded ARPL from https://github.com/fbelavenuto/arpl/releases/download/v1.1-beta2a/arpl-1.1-beta2a.img.zip and choosed the following: - Model: DS3615xs - Build: 42661 - Serial: Generated serial clicked "Build Loader" then "Boot Loader" tried to access the NAS from http://192.168.8.8 nothing!, browser says: This site can’t be reached, 192.168.8.8 took too long to respond., ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT 192.168.8.8 has been always reserved by router for the NAS computer. I repeated the whole process again, from writing arpl.img to a flash drive until it told me to access NAS from http://192.168.8.8 Same thing: This site can’t be reached!! the system seem to be freezed on this screen, does no respond to keyboard please help what should I do now?
