    Working DSM 6

On my n54l I cannot boot. I set the time delay to 5 but all I get is a monitor off after the BIOS lines. No choices, no nothing. I think I've done it all, except I cannot find any serial port in the BIOS. Also, I see there is an EFI partition in the USB boot drive. Maybe this machine can only boot from MBR flash USB drives?. Tried three different flash drives, and did a BIOS reset. No way. Black screen. My n54l is running 5.2 with no problems.
  2. As far as I know the N54L is a BIOS machine not UEFI. Nonetheless, the loader is a hydrid loader made for UEFI and Bios MOBOs. Are you using the latest loader v.1.01? Try to burn the loader on the USB again and/or change USB key. I have seen some reports where people had dysfunctional USB keys and nothing was showing up. Make sure your bios is configured to AHCI. A BIOS reset sometimes helps. To re-assure you though other people have been able to install DSM 6.0 on a HP N54L so I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do the same. 4. I do have a backup in amazon drive, but it would take a lot less time converting the array than downloading 10TB of data. I know there is no way in synology, but there is a way in linux. If you cannot help, then dont call me dumb. Please, dont help me. Not this way.
  5. I need more space, and I want to change my 4 6TB disks in raid 6 to 5. DSM wont let me do that. I found a tutorial in: http://www.tjansson.dk/2013/09/migrate-from-raid-6-to-raid-5-with-mdadm/ that seems easy enough, using mdadm. The problem is that my synology system: is not just one raid 6 volume, but it has two additional raid 1 volumes, probably where the synology DSM lives. Now, the question: would the migration form raid 6 to 5 using mdadm destroy my files?. Would the DSM 5.2 still see the raid 5 disk?.
  8. 1-Boot your xpenology with your new boot USB drive 2-Using file station, go to usbshare1 (the usb drive), where you'll find the syslinux.cfg file 3-right-clic it and rename to syslinux.txt 4-right-clic it and select "open with text editor" 5-make the changes and save the file 6-right.clic it again and rename it to syslinux.cfg Done!
  9. Thanks!. Do you have the info to run utorrent in docker as well?. I install it, but I fail to access it through the web browser. I may be using the wrong ports.

  14. I get similar speeds in a gen 7 n54l. I think it is the speed you get through a lan. It should be around 80MB/s, but in reality you get 35-40. Dont know why.

    Fan control

Control panel-->hardware and power. Put the fan in quiet mode and try.
  17. It seems there is a serious issue with xpenology not expanding. I tried with 5.0 (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4903) with no success. Be prepared to use the command line and a few tutorials. I did not try because I could get around it and did not want to risk my data. The fact that there is a tuto here (viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3339) indicates this is a known issue nobody talks about. But it is a serious one. What good is a NAS if you cannot expand the volume?.
  18. A problem nobody mentions is noise. Gen7 is a bit noisy, but gen8 is famous for sounding like a washing machine. Location then becomes important. Do you have a closet where to hide it?.

    Instalar DSM 5.1

Visto lo visto, yo no tengo prisa
  20. Good!. you risk nothing, however. If you have a raid 1, 5 or 6 array and pull one disk you get a degraded array, but with all the data intact.
  21. I only have four. I think I was the first here to use them, and when I asked I was told to do the experiment and report. That's what you should do. If it does not work on the CD port, you can try the ESATA or return the drive.
