Evening folks, So, I have a hard drive that seems to be on its way out although the SMART is telling me the drive is fine the disk keeps crashing when looking at the logs its trying to write to bad sectors. so, as a test I replaced the 4-split cable from the raid card just to rule that out. but sure, enough it looks the drive is on its way to the scrap heap. So, what drives and size do people generally use? I know that Synology & DSM 7 were fussier about what drives they use. The last drive i bought a few years ago was a Toshiba N300 8TB which has been good. so, i was wondering which drives people using xpenology tend to go for. Additional I might remove one of my older 3tb drive and put 2 new drives in so i can move to shr2 rather than 1. To give an overview my current drives at 4 x 3tb WD reds 2 X 5tb Seagate shucked portable drives 2 x 8tb Seagate shucked portable drives (1 of these is the failing one) and 2 x 8tb Toshiba N300 drives i also have 2 x Samsung SSD drives as a cache and right now all sata ports are used via motherboard and raid card.

Hi so I upgraded my dsm to redpill 7.1 from 6.2.3 Jun loader. Everything seems to have been fine for the last month. But in the last week 2 of my drives have "crashed" one has deactivated itself the other is sitting crashed. These drives are newish maybe a year old and have a clean bill of health in the smart scan the drives that deactivated now says it can be used cause its not compatible. I never had issues with the drives in 6.2.3 now I know 7.1 came with a tighter compatible hard drive list but could it be its take a small error and making a big issue?

I tried it with them disabled and enabled and I had the same issue but I decided to go back to unraid instead

No I have not done that. Vt I take is logical cores or old style hyper threading? I will need to look in the bios to disable the on-board sata port

The card has not been flashed to it mode but all the drive are in hda mode so are all single drive not in any kind of raid. On the off chance I gave the automatic redpoll creator a try it seems to at least see the disk just trying to install the dsm just now Update I have tried to install dsm twice both times failed at 56% which normally indicates satamap is wrong

Hello i am setting up my second xpenology NAS on a Dell T630 with a Perc H730 Raid card. I when through the setup of Tinycore but when i find the nas via its ip address it says it does not have any disks can someone help me get the correct drivers to inject into redpill to make the drives turn up? cheers Andrew

Hello all So i have been loosely following the Tinycore-Redpill project and it looks to have made fantastic progress in a short space of time. but i just wanted to make sure what with all the changes that have happened which is best. So i am on 918+ jun 1.04B loader with a LSI card in IT mode with 9 drives and 2 sata3 cache drives using SHR1. I also use an a ASUS 10gb network card (which required the extensions pack before) So to track my thinking i was going to upgrade to DSM 7.0.1 for a while first and then move to 7.1 later say 6 months of so, also that i would be best sticking with 918+ as it seems to be be stable over 920+ versions so i should follow the guides to create a Tinycore-Redpill usb and it should be as simple as basically pulling out the junloader usb and insert the Redpill loaded build 7.0.1 and boot that loader it will then ask me to migrate to the new DSM version correct? Serveral of the programs/app will need to be reinstalled and setup again. as well as my dockers Although all my data is backed up it would take a fair effort to get everything back again. So i want to try and avoid having to format the drives and restore if possible. does that sound right?

Hello all Wondering if anyone can help me i have docker running a few containers up will yesterday they all ran fine now none of them seem to work stating the have a network issue when i do a ns lookup from a container i get an error and can't find the servers. do i am guessing dns settings are not going to the continers so i run a domain on my nas i also have a pi in the house that runs pi-hole these have all run perfectly for weeks without issue any one know why my DNS would have disappeared? i have tried restart the nas docker and the containers multiply times but nothing seems to work

Hello first off I don't want to seem rude or anything, I just want to know what the future holds for xpenology, so I was wondering if the Admin team or Devs could answer if there is any kind of roadmap for the future of the project? i have been slowly moving away from unraid to xpenology as I find the system so easy to use very lightweight and very well supported. but as with the last two updates having failed to install according to a number of people and with DSM 7 in the wings is there a future. I know Jun seems to have been away for a while so is there others that will be making boot loaders and taking up the mantle? i myself have no experience with coding or programming which is why my knowledge in this department is low. i also realise that most people here do this kind of work as a hobby and have other commitments. i saw IG55s post about looking at other specs of synology nas to try replicate but i was wondering if there is any kind of official stand from the project. Are we going to hold off on new boot loaders till dsm 7 is released?

Hi yes I pointed the laptop to the Nas IP address and I added the dns port to the firewalls I even tried turning off the firewalls but nothing seemed to work I am tempted to go back to an older windows 10 version as in know 1806 messed up alot of the samba stuff

This might be Synology issue but I tried the Facebook page for help they were not helpful, so I figured I would try here. I have finally setup my xpenology 918+ and it appears to run fine. So installed active directory and dns everything seems to go fine but when I try to connect a windows 10 2004 version I get an error trying to contact the dns and fqnl name it says no domain controller exists. Any help or things to try.

Good afternoon I successfully install 1.04 918+ on to a Asus b250 board with a celeron g3930 I also have a Plex pass and I have installed the x64 version from Plex website but everything I try to transcode a video it pegs the CPU at 98% I have it set in Plex to use hardware transcoding as well but for the life of me I can't get it to work any ideas? Do I need the extra drivers to get it working properly? Also I am on the 6.2.3. latest update.

Many thanks for that IG I saw there was a script you could run to see the CPUs properly but that's is irrelevant but I hopefully get a bit time this weekend to give it a try and will report back if successful or not I want to avoid hypervisor is at all possible.

Evening Guys i was wondering if you would answer a question. Will Xpenology work on a dell T630 the hardware is a duel Xeon E5-2630 V3 and 128gb ram the chipset is Intel Corporation C610/X99 and the raid card is Broadcom / LSI MegaRAID SAS-3 3108 and Aquantia Corp. AQC107 NBase-T/IEEE 802.3bz Ethernet Controller as well as 2 onboard Intel Corporation I350 Gigabit Network Connection i know its a very over power machine for Xpenology but i really like Xpenology software and i think it will be perfect for me but this is what i have hardware wise. Can anyone advise if this will work? Regards Andy

Hi hoping someone can help a noob out so looking at setting up xpenology as a home server I have an old dell r710 with a h300 raid board in it so I downloaded bootloader 1.03b and set about installing the latest 6.2 with my Asus 10gb network card but one it booted I could not find it on the network so I tried the onboard ports that that also did not show up so finally I installed a 1gb Intel desktop network card thinking this as basic as it gets this will work but nothing yet again I must be don't something wrong as I was sure it said in the forum that the Asus 10gb should work.
