1. I am using ESXi5.0 U3 now. But i've used ESXi5.1U1 as well. I can't seems to figure out a way to add a USB device to the Xpenology VM while it's running. Everytime I want to assign a external USB hard drive to the Xpenology VM, I have to shutdown Xpenology first. Does anyone know a way to add USB device without shutting down the VM? Windows XP and Windows 7 VM supports this feature.
2. ESXi5.5 has problem with the onBoard Intel SATA ports. Though pass through can be enabled on the Z77 Panther point SATA, but no VM can use it. Setting up Xpenology and plan to use the onboard SATA port through passthrough is not possible right now.
3. This latest Beta ESXi build can fully install Xpenology, but it fails to detect any of my ASM1602 SATA controllers.
4. on my ESXi5.5, i tried Trantor's 3211 1.2a betra2a. Initial install went OK, then the first reboot gives a GRUB 22 error. Replace the FLAT.vmdk, i can boot and load, but shuts down during the startup . Has any one encountered the shutdown behavior?
5. it would be trule awesome if we can get a ESXi build. I currently have a i7 3770 with Z77 with ESXi5.5 . I would love to use the ASM1602 as passthrough.
6. There seems to be some issue with passthrough the H77 onbard SATA controller. it was working normally with 5.1. Once i upgraded to ESXi5.5, the xpenology vm would start and hand at [8.3###]. In the middle, it kept complaining about something about : ACHI FAILED to stop engine. Then the VM just hang, couldn't start.
7. the default Optware install dir is to /volume1 , how can I change the install to /volume2 ? I don't want to create symlink because my volume 1 is a 4 disk RAID5. I want to minimize its access, and put all apps to /volume2 .
8. /usr/syno/synoman/webman/resources/images/login, here you can find the logos Hi, home made logo (« Syno like ») (.psd available as attachment) : Have fun wow, it looks a lot better than the original one. What is .psd file? Other question I have: the Optware's default install dir is to /volume1 , how can I change the install to /volume2 ? I don't want to create symlink because my volume 1 is a 4 disk RAID5. I want to minimize its access, and put all apps to /volume2 .
9. In that same folder there is a menu file, try to change that file the menu file is symlinked to the grub.conf file, which i did added the mac1 and sn flag after the boot parameter. The Mac address didn't change after the unit boots up. Some other threads mention i need a hex editor to modify the vendor file. SO i wonder if anyone of you tried, and which method works for you.
10. from other posts, to change Mac address, just add "mac1=xxxxxxxxx" to the grub.conf file within the boot image. THis doesn't work. Has anyone tried to change the mac address?
11. Does any one know how to change the "XPenology 4.2" logo? i would like to place my logo there.
12. To fix the GRUB 22 error, you must re-upload the xxxxx-flat.vmdk file to the same datastore location. Then restart the VM. in the past, I just login to the console and do a copy from a repo of installation images, but that didn't work for some reason. So, re-upload the VMDK flat image solves the Grub 22 error.
13. hi kennyb, how did you replace your boot image after the GRUB 22 error? because after the isntallation, the vmdk file became .001.vmdk and a text file referencing to the .001.vmdk replaced the original.vmdk file. How did you re-upload the vmdk file? I tried to login to the terminal and cp the original vmdk file to the .001.vmdk. Issue is, the whole installation will begin all over. Also, i couldn't get Passthrough to work with my onboard H77 SATA, and the LSI SAS3041E. I don't think any one got the Passthrough to work so far.
14. You can modify directly on the system. 1) ssh into system 2) cd /volumeUSB1/usbshare1-1/boot/grub 3) edit menu.lst I have an ESXi install, not on a dedicated computer.
15. I also tried to change the SN and Mac address. IN ESXi, i need to mount the boot image in another VM and then modify the files? I don't see a way to modify the file directly from the xpenology installation.
16. Any one encounter the GRUB 22 boot erro? If I replace the .MVDK with the default one, then the installation has to start over again.
17. anyone know how to make a backup of all the 3rd party repo to a new Synology installation? I hate to re-add all 8 of these. I wonder if there is a .conf file somewhere where I can copy.
18. FrankGNL : are you using VMware ESX5? or just a whitebox server?
19. Does this mean any LSI card will work ? I get the GRUB 22 error after reboot as well.
20. I want to try this on ESX5.1 but I always fail to converted the IMG image to VMDK. I'm really in the interest to have VT-d working and pass through all my hard drives to DSM.
21. converting the image to VMware disk doesn't work in ESX5. my VM hang at GRUB, error 22.
22. hey Diverge , are you using RDM on your four 2TB drives, or are you using VT-d passthrough? Do you care to monitor the SMART status on the hard drives?
