  1. Mir stellt sich aktuell die gleiche Frage, es gibt allerdings auch schon im Tutorial-Bereich einiges dazu. Bist du schon weitergekommen oder noch bei DSM6.x?
  2. The idea of having a small and powerful NAS was the driving force that took me to Xpenology. I had a QNAP before (ARM „cpu“), then I did some experiments with Xpenology on older hardware (i5 4th gen mini pc) and read myself through all the relevant threads right here. Original Syno was alwasy no option, as their hardware wasn‘t enough for me. I like the flexibility of self-made servers. I would suggest not to use a notebook for that, as it is very unusual and may bear problems in hardware maintenance. I would go for a (used) Xeon/i5/i3/Pentium Gold in a small case, which should be possible with your mentioned budget. For me it took quite a while to find an appropiate case, but I ended up with a Chenbro SR30169. Very nice designed and high quality case. But it only fits mini-ITX boards... (see my signature). Greetings
  3. You might have a look at this thread as the user also reports that problem using a i219V:
  4. Just to make sure, have you - added the Macs in the grub correctly? - added both lzma on the right partition of the Synoboot image? - tried using a free network scanner instead of the syno assistant? - noriced activity led‘s at the lan port? Im using i219 Nic, do not know the difference to the „V“ version. Regards

  6. 918+ is now working fine, tried another USB-port on the mainboard. Thanks!
  7. set vid=0x0781 set pid=0x5583 The HDD has no partitions and those who has been created after each install attempt have been removed by myself. In the meantime, I tried loader 1.03b with .pat for DS3617xs and the installation just works fine. Is there any reason I should invest more time to investigate how to setup the 918+ DSM? This NAS will be my backup NAS for the one in my signature. But I like the idea of having them run on 1.04b and 918+ simultaneously... Thanks for your reply!
  8. Hey, Im trying to install XPEnology on my new Server: ASRock E3C224D2i Mainboard CPU: Xeon E31241v3 16 Gb ECC RAM 2x Intel i210 lan I used Loader 1.40b (918+) with xtra.lzma (v0.13.3) to prepare the stick. It also boots from the loader, LANs get recognised and the assistant comes up. But the loader screen says "Trying to terminate EFI services again" and after manually selecting the DSM_DS918+_25426.pat I get the error, that it couldn't be installed or might be corrupt. "Die Datei konnte nicht installiert werden. Die Datei ist wahrscheinlich beschädigt (13)." VIN/PID is set correctly. SATA mode is AHCI. Did I oversee something? The 1.04b should work with the Haswell generation CPU. Tank you! @IG-88
  9. Problem solved, SGPIO is not needed as the backplane is controlled via each of the SATA connector cables. New question: SATA0 (1st slot in backplane) always shows permanent reading access by constant lightning of the green SMD-LED. Is there any reason for that? This behaviour was reproducible on another system with exact same H/W configuration and Loader/DSM version. Thanks for suggestions
  10. I got a new question concerning my new built server: Intel C246 chipset offers a SGPIO-connector. I got it working, power LED and drive access indicator are functional. There still is a 2 Hz synchronous red blinking of all four drive bay LEDs. I've attached the "instructions" I got from Asrock, is there anything wrong? Do I have to configure them by myself? Thanks for commenting!
  11. I managed to get 6.2.3-25426 working with extra.lzma/extra2.lzma for loader 1.04b ds918+ DSM 6.2.3 v0.13.3. Until now, NICs and OCuLink are working fine. Thank you!
  12. As far as I read, the 6.2.3 won't work with any xtra.lzma containing the drivers for my i210 & i219-LM NICs... Does it work by using ESXi to get rid of driver issues?
  13. Its now working with 6.2.2 and xtra.lzma, it seems like the drivers for both NICs have been missing. Would like to switch to 6.2.3 tomorrow with a new installation. Thanks for your fast response!
  14. I have my ASRock E3C246D2I (Intel C246) started with Juns loader 1.04b 918+, but I can't get up one of the NICs, its just blinking but not recognized in the router. Aren't these i210 and i219 natively supported or do I need the xtra.lzma? Any hints? I put in the right MAC's, got them from a previous Win10 installation...
  15. Is it possible, to change CPU on a configured system (G5420 to i3 9100) or is a complete reinstall of DSM recommended/neccesary?
  16. Another question: What will happen if the USB-Drive with the bootloader somehow gets faulty or damaged? Is it possible to setup a new one to replace the old one and get DSM starting again?
  17. @flyride Thanks for your answer. As I see, you have the Intel C236 working. Do you know if the oculink from a Intel C246 would work with Xpenology? I don't have any experience with that oculink. Is it just another connector used to save space on mini ITX boards? I wonder if it needs a special driver, but it uses Oculink to SATA connector cables... Greetings
  18. Hey everyone, I managed to install Xpenology on one of my older i5 4th Gen PC for testing puroses and everything is working fine and very well. I was used to a QNAP TS419PII 4-Bay NAS with ARM CPU, which is as slow as a turtle. Now that I liked Xpenology very much, I decided to buy new hardware to set up a 4-6 bay NAS because prices of real Syno-boxes are just hilarious. There are now some fundamental quastions: - Why do some users use EXSi for virtualization? What ist the benefit of running Xpenology on a virtual machine? - I read about the extra driver packages from user IG-88, really brilliant work! They are very well done... Is it possible to implement own drivers I eventually need into Xpenology and is there something like a tutorial out there? There may be some more questions in the future Thank you for answering! Greetings from Germany
  19. Hey, i'd like to set up a new NAS. For my purposes, I would like to install 4 SATA HDDs an 2 SSDs. the server is used for file storage (at least 2 Users), media server and as NZB client. I would like to use Chenbro SR301 case, which recommends using a mini-ITX mainboard. What do you think? Which Mainbors should be used? Asrock C236 WMI with Pentium Gold oder i3 CPU? Or a more actual Z370/390? Any hints? Thank you in advance
