  1. Hi, Thanks for the reply and ******* sorry I hadn’t realised this was the case.
  2. Hi all, Ive recently managed to get my old Dell XPS8500 turned into a super power NAS. Ive used a Serial number from the Xpenology generator and it works well except I can't register the product on Synology which means I can't use things like email notification, register extra IP Camera licenses, use DS Cam to send notification and so on. Ive tried a few serial numbers on Synology website and none seem to work, comes up invalid number. Ive had 3 Synology NAS drives in the past 3 years (gone from DS416play to RS818 and also have the more portable EDS14) and they all start 17********* on the serial number and the Xpenology ones start with 11,13 and 14******** so seem to be outdated maybe? Anyone else had the same troubles as this kinda defeats the purpose of having an old hacked PC turned into a cheap NAS, the last thing I want to do is pay for a new NAS so be really useful to see if I can get this fixed as im sure im not the only one that's had this issue? Thanks in advance Phil 😁
  3. Hi all, Im in need of some help here! My RS818 died and Synology wouldn't honour the warranty so Ive tried getting DSM working on an old Dell XPS 8500. I've followed a YouTube video which looks really helpful yet once I've booted the machine, the Synology Assistant finds the dell with DSM but states no drives are installed? I currently have 2 x 4tb (these are my old drives from the RS818, I have another 2 to install but don't have the SATA connections on the motherboard but ill worry about that later). Both Drives are recognised in the BIOS, ive changed them to ACHI in bios but still no joy, also tried using a drive caddy on USB but still says no drives connected. Also tried a 500gb SSD. Ive installed DSM 6.1 again exactly how the guy in the video has done, all appears fine except can't find any drives. Has anyone else come across this or have some tips for me please? Thanks Phil B
