  1. Please LMK if you can get transcoding to work. I want to do a bare metal build on a 804 and have no idea what the best motherboard would be. I would like to also add a 10GB Nic.
  2. Thanks, does it matter if they are branded (e.g. Dell)? First time getting into 10GB nics!
  3. What's the cheapest 10GB nics that I can add to a HP MicroServer Gen8 to use as an adhoc network with another ESXi server that will work with both bare metal (what I will probably migrate to) and via ESXI (where I have my XPenology today) that's compatible with XPEnology running latest DSM? One port and two port options would be awesome!
  4. Ok, thanks for the suggestion. I'm currently booting from USB, and my esxi data store is an SSD using the optical drive controller, so logically if the controllers are separate, but I don't know about physically- perhaps could try to pass it through. I also have a P222 controller card that I could plug the 4HDDs to as well. While logically I understand what you're saying, is there a guide somewhere that illustrates it? Also, what did you mean by "you would ne vt-d"? Lastly, I know 6.7 allows the assignment of raw drives- would that fix things? Again, I couldn't find much detail on that.
  5. So I just bought 4X14TB seagate exos drives that I've installed under xpenology 6.2.2-2x Update 3 running as a DS3617xs under ESXI using the guide in the guide section and configured the drives aspassthrough SATA drives directly by attaching them as physical disks RDM (using vmkfstools -z, then add existing disk) XPenology is currently running parity checks, but I decided to look at the S.M.A.R.T. information to make sure the drives I just bought are ok. When I go to look at the info I get the error message: Failed to fetch S.M.A.R.T. information So I SSH'd into my ESXi server and ran the following command to read the S.M.A.R.T. data from the device: # esxcli storage core device smart get -d device I got the following info pretty much for all my 4 brand new drives: Parameter Value Threshold Worst ---------------------------- ----- --------- ----- Health Status OK N/A N/A Media Wearout Indicator N/A N/A N/A Write Error Count 100 1 100 Read Error Count 83 44 78 Power-on Hours 100 0 100 Power Cycle Count 100 20 100 Reallocated Sector Count 100 10 100 Raw Read Error Rate 83 44 78 Drive Temperature 42 0 42 Driver Rated Max Temperature 58 40 58 Write Sectors TOT Count 100 0 253 Read Sectors TOT Count 100 0 253 Initial Bad Block Count N/A N/A N/A So my questions: - How can I pass through S.M.A.R.T. info to XPenology so I can schedule tests etc - Are the values reported in ESXi ok? Some of them surprise me Thanks in advance.
  6. Update: So I finished the complete install on esxi 6.7u3 based on this tutorial of DS3617XS synoboot.img 1.03b and the VMDK 6.0.2 Jun's Mod V1.0 initially with 6.2 then I did a snapshot and upgraded to 6.2.2 I have this installed on an HP micro server Gen8 upgraded to a Xeon E3-1265L V2. Even though I don't have intel nics on the HP but via esxi everything seems to working fine. 1. Is there anything I should be upgrading to maintain stability? Do we need 1.04? I read somewhere that 3615 is more stable than 3617- is this true? Should I reinstall? 2. Let's say in the future I upgrade to 6.3 and it fails- Do I risk any data loss? i.e. Would performing a rollback on the snapshot be sufficient?
  7. Hi, long time synology user, first time xpenology user. I've just bought a gen8 hp microserver to install xpenology with a xeon processor and 16GB ram, an SSD installed in the optical bay, and 4 X 1TB HDD (that I am hoping to upgrade to 4X12 TB). I boot esxi from a USB stick. I initially tried installing the DS3617XSv1 XPenology_v5.ova that I found earlier in this thread, but but I get a message that no Hard disk is found on the DS3617xs I am now followed the instructions at the beginning of the thread and creating one from scratch. 1. For the first ready to go image the serial ports give me errors while editing the VM; Do I need those? 2. Any ideas on how to fix? Additional questions: a. What is the latest DSM version that's supported? b. Do I need an intel nic? c. Any issues with installing 4X12TB drives? Thanks!
