  1. thanks @bearcat - I have now upgraded ESXi from 5.5 to 6.5 U3 and I have 6.1.7 running - just playing around with volumes now to get it how I want. Thanks again for your help!
  2. I'll try a fresh install in that case - are there any step by step instructions for an ESXi install rather than a baremetal? for 6.1.7 on a N54L?
  3. @bearcat thank you for confirming - Any idea how i would go about migrating from version 4.2 to 6.1 without losing any of my data? bearing in mind I have vmdk's as disks
  4. I am kinda in the same boat as you - I have an old N54L (which still runs great for it's age) but I have ESXi 5.5 and I am running DSM 4.2 (really old!!) but now Plex needs a later server version than the one on 4.2. But I don't even know if 6.1 or 6.2 can be installed as an ESXi 5.5 VM. I'd love to keep the data but unsure if it's possible when upgrading from such an old version. Let's hope someone can help us!
  5. In case anyone else comes across this I was able to fix the issue. I basically followed these instructions: https://www.dsebastien.net/2015/05/19/recovering-a-raid-array-in-e-state-on-a-synology-nas/ but instead of syno_poweroff_task -d - DSM4 uses: syno_poweroff_task -s
  6. Hi All, About 4 years ago I installed esxi 5.5 and DSM 4.2 on a HP Microserver N54L. It's been working great with no issues and I have 3 volumes in total. (no RAID just SHR) I tried upgrading ESXI (which failed) and now my DiskStation is telling me volume 1 has crashed and photo station etc have stopped working but I can see all the data in File Manager. What does volume 1 is crashed mean? and can I reset it?
