  1. I have an HP Mediasmart EX490 running DSM 6.2. I have installed an RGB video cable in the EX490 so that I can get access to the BIOS. Is there some way that I can use the video display on the EX490 along with a usb keyboard and mouse to directly access the DSM interface without having to use a network connection? Thanks.
  2. Thanks very much for the lead. I was able to install TVheadend. It appears to have a lot more capability than I was looking for so I'm going to have to spend some time figuring out how to configure it. I appreciate your help.
  3. Thanks for the clarification. I intended to focus one question on Synology apps and another related question that focussed on third party apps.
  4. I have a Windows app called Streamwriter that I would like to be able to use on my NAS for scheduled recording of Internet audio streams. I believe the app will run under Windows XP, 7, and 10. What would be the smallest Windows image available that I could use to run this app? Thanks.
  5. I have been searching for a way to do scheduled recordings of audio streams from Internet radio stations. I found that Audio Station can connect to the Internet streams that I want, but I haven't found any way to record these streams. Are there other 3rd party apps that will perform scheduled audio recordings? Thanks.
  6. The 'Turn' transition isn't quite the same thing as a flipbook presentation. I'm including a picture of what the flipbook gui looks like. Basically it looks like a book would look on a table and the transition animation simulates turning the page on the book.
  7. Actually, the slideshow mode in Photo Station does have a number of slide transition styles to choose from, including one that is a "flip" mode on a single page. I was surprised that Moments didn't seem to include any type of transitions between slides. Hopefully Synology can expand the slideshow capabilities in Moments in the future.
  8. I have tried Moments and Photo Station. They have a slideshow mode but they don't offer a flipbook mode for transitioning.
  9. I have been looking for a way to display photos as a digital flipbook, but haven't found any software packages that will display photos in this format. Is anyone aware of a way to provide a photo flipbook viewing mode? thanks.
  10. I'd like to know about any Docker Container managers that work well with DSM 6.2. I've seen Watchtower and Portainer mentioned, but there seem to be people who have had problems with these apps. I'm just looking for some basic capabilities like updating to the latest container image files. Thanks.
  11. After doing a search on "xpenology MTU 9000" I found that there were a number of other folks who had stumbled into the same problem I did. I found a suggestion to manually edit the synoinfo.conf file on the hard disk. I found the bad setting of 9000 for eth0 MTU and I changed it back to 1500. After rebooting the system I was able to reconnect to the server. I am still puzzled by the dramatic change in upload speeds that I observed. With an MTU setting of 1500 the upload speeds I was seeing with Speedtest.py was about 10Mbits/sec. When I changed the MTU setting to 2000 the upload speed jumped to almost 80Mbits/sec. Can anyone tell me why this dramatic change would happen, and what technique I should use to optimize my MTU setting? Thanks.
  12. I have been investigating very poor upload speeds on my HP Mediasmart EX490 running DSM 06.2. I decided to try changing MTU settings to see if that would help. In fact, when the MTU was increased beyond 1500 I noticed a very significant increase in upload speed. I should have stopped there, but to see what would happen with a further increase, I changed the MTU setting to 9000. After the system rebooted I can no longer access it on the network. I have tried the web interface as well as an SSH client, but I get no response in either case. Is there some way for me to edit the USB boot disk to set the MTU back to a lower value so I can access the server? Thanks..
  13. Just a quick observation on the info you posted - the bandwidth listed in the iperf3 test seems to be megabits per second (Mbits) while the info shown in your graph seems to be megabytes per second (MB/s).
  14. I recently completed an installation of Xpenology on my HP Mediasmart Server EX490. I was able to install DSM 6.2-23729 on an instance of a DS3615xs. The problem I am trying to diagnose is a slow download speed of files from the server. After doing some research on how to check transfer speeds, I was able to install speedtest.py on the DSM 6.2 server in order to see what speeds it measured. I connected to the Xpenology server using the PUTTY client included with the Xpenology Tool v1.4.2. After executing the speedtest.py program the reported speeds were Download=82.67Mbits/sec and Upload=7.49Mbits/sec. I suspected that the discrepancy between these speeds was the source of the problem I was observing in slow FTP download speed from the server. I decided to do some further investigation of the performance of the EX490 so I created a bootable Linux USB using a version of Puppy Linux. After booting the EX490 with Linux, I then installed the same version of speedtest.py that I had used before. This time the speedtest results I got were Download=83.08Mbits/sec and Upload=80.85Mbits/sec. I surprised to see that the upload speed was an order of magnitude higher. Apparently the EX490 hardware is capable of fairly high upload speeds, but something about the Synology DSM 6.2 operating system seems to be degrading the upload speed significantly. I looked at the various options in the DSM 6.2 settings that might be limiting speed but I haven't found anything obvious. There is no firewall enabled and there are no network traffic control restrictions set. I have attached screen shots of the two speedtest.py results that I saw. At this point I'm not sure what else to do to track down the source of the problem and I'm looking for any suggestions for how to proceed next. Thanks.
  15. I recently installed DSM 6.2 on my old HP Mediasmart EX495 server and am starting to explore how to use it's features. To get started I installed 2 hard drives using Synology SHR mode. I have another hard disk that I used to copy audio and video files from the EX495 when it was running the WHS software. I would like to copy those files into the Synology file system. I could attach the drive to the USB2 port of the EX495 but the transfer would be incredibly slow. What I would like to know is whether I can install the NFS hard drive into one of the open bays of the server and then perform the copy directly within the server? Thanks.
  16. Thanks for the suggestions of using a DDNS service like NoIP and also for using a vpn. I'm planning to investigate both of those options.
  17. I've been looking for a simple alternative to the use of QuickConnect for sharing files and folders across the internet. Is there a tutorial for how to do this? Thanks.
  18. After your trial and error process, do you have a good idea of what the correct procedure is supposed to be for recovering from your initial problem? It might be useful if you could give a summary of what worked.
