  1. Hi All, I have tested yet another motherboard that I have it for spare. It is the ASROCK G31M-GS R2.0, the link is below: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/G31M-GS%20R2.0/ This cheap motherboard is using AMIBIOS© 2006 AMERICAN MEGATRENDS Bios Which did not have any resetting BIOS issue.
  2. +1 sharing the same idea! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk For your information, I tested using a generic UPS, DSM detected there is an UPS connected to my Supermicro PDSME motherbaord. But having it does not solve the BIOS resetting issue that I am currently having on PDSME motherbaord. When power is off, DSM will shut down, but upon reboot, it will reset my bios setting. I think time to swab the motherboard out and resuse later of other purpose.
  3. Hi, I am trying to find out whether there is any REAL benefit in getting a motherboard with SATA III ports to FULLY support the modern SATA III hard disks available in the market. In terms of transfer data speed, any HUGH difference? OR No need to buy a modern motherboard, just use the existing motherboard with SATA II ports and that will be sufficient? Thank you.
  4. Hi All, Once again, I turn to the forum of advice on the subject mentioned above. Has anyone in the forum try the 2 free license from Synology Surveillance Staion v6.3? Has anyone try SSS v6.3 hooked up to 2 units of H.264 cameras (any brand) @ 25/30fps? When using Internet Explorer v11 browser to do live viewing, your client PC (used for doing live viewing) CPU load will run high. See the picture below: I did check out the hardware requirement for using SSS v6.3, scroll to the bottom: http://www.synology.com/en-us/surveillance/index/spec And you can see minimum hardware requirement = Intel i5 So...does it means that I need to upgrade my client PC from an Intel C2D Quad to and Intel i5, in order to see lowering CPU loading? Thank you.
  5. Why go through the trouble of limiting yourself to DS214Play 2 drive emulation just to expand it to more drives? Why not to just to use DS3612xs with up to 12 supported drives to begin with? Is there anything special in DS214Play considering that you are not using real (power efficient) hardware? Hi XPEH, Thanks for the comment. If you read the thread earlier on, you will know that I did not limit myself. In fact, I tried on the Nano Boot 5.0.3.1 DSM 5.0-4493 + DS3612sx (x64) and that causes my motherboard Supermicro PDSME to have resetting bios setting if there is a reboot on the system. I hope that I answer your question on why I am trying on the DS214Play (x86) version, simply because using this pat file did not cause a bios resetting problem. If there is no solution of adding extra hard disk solution found when using DS214Play (x86). I think I may have to revert back to DS3612sx (x64) and try a UPS power back up power to solve my BIOS resetting problem.
  6. Ok Guys, I am trying to do a FRESH install using the following components: 1) 1 x 4GB USB thumb drive loaded with Nano Boot 5.0.2.4 DSM 5.0-4493 (x86) image. 2) Intel Pentiume D 930 CPU running on Supermicro PDSME motherboard with 4GB DDR2 RAM32) 3) 4 x WD 20EARX 2TB hard drives. 4) Installing using DSM_DS214play_4493.pat PAT file via Synology Assistant on my client PC. Here is an funny/odd issue which I discovered installing using DS214play (32bit) version.... When installing DSM_DS214play_4493.pat, I cannot finish installing because, it always come up with an message saying it just cannot format the disk(Failed to format)... see the picture below: So, what I do is I had to install the following 1) Nano Boot 5.0.3.1 DSM 5.0-4493 on a thumb drive and boot it. 2) DSM_DS3612xs_4493.pat(x64) version pat file for installing the DS3612sx- 64bit version. Successfully formatted the 4 disks..... Then reboot..... Next...Nano Boot 5.0.2.4 DSM 5.0-4493 (x86) will mess up my BIOS setting back to default settings. Press the DEL button, I have to reconfigure my original BIOS setting. Next remove the Nano Boot 5.0.3.1 DSM 5.0-4493 (x64) thumb drive. Insert Nano Boot 5.0.2.4 DSM 5.0-4493 (x86) thumb drive. Reboot the system. Run Synology Assistant and it will show "Migrating" Install DSM_DS214play_4493.pat PAT file . After finished installing, the system will shut down automatically. Restart the system...BIOS setting remain unchanged. DONE. Questions: 1) Anyone know why Synology Assistant could format the disk at the very beginning when doing a new fresh install of DS214play pat file?? 2) Does anyone know how to make DS214play(by design it can only supports 2 hard disk) to support more than 2 hard disks? Thank you.
  7. Hi XPEH Nope I don't use SAS controllers in my system. So...probably just ignore it...and leave it as it is.
  8. Finally, after a few weeks of hassle...... ......my Supermicro PDSME motherbaord using NanoBoot 5.0.2.4 DSM 5.0-4493 x86 (32bit version) (based on Synology DS214play model) ....there is NO MORE RESETTING BIOS ISSUE ANYMORE! I would like to thank sporti for sharing the information! Now, because it is a 32 bit OS and max. supported memory capacity = 4GB, Previously I have a 8GB of DDR2 memory running, now I can remove the 2 sticks of 2GB = 4GB and put aside for future use. I wonder if there is any tweak on the DSM software (based on DS214play hardware) to run a bit faster. If I go the Control Panel-> Info Center-> Basic Information, it is showing INTEL ATOM which incorrect, since I am running a INTEL Pentium D 930 socket 775 3GHz CPU. I am bit concern about the module failed to load, check out the pic below: Should I just ignore it....nothing very serious? Thank you.
  9. OK....guys....just an update.....long awaiting update....been very busy lately Good news!!! My Asus P5G41CM-LX referring to link: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5G41CM_LX/ motherboard tested on: NanoBoot NanoBoot 5.0.3.1 DSM 5.0-4493 X64 downloaded from http://www.xpenology.nl after reboot the system, there was NO BIOS RESETTING PROBLEM!!!!
  10. Really??? Then may be..... I need to test it with the 32bit Nanoboot version and see it for myself.!!!! If it works, then I need to remove the memory sticks on the motherboard, because currently it has 8GB of DDR2 and reduce memory capacity to 4GB since 32bit OS cannot detect more than 4GB. BTW, apart from having smaller memory capacity support, is there any major performance difference between the two version i.e. Nanoboot x86 and Nanoboot x64 version?
  11. But did you try the 64bit version of Nanoboot? What motherboard did you use to test? Or your motherboard is old and it does not support 64bit. Just wondering how to you conclude that the 32bit version does not cause any bios resetting issue.
  12. Unfortunately Supermicro only released 1 firmware for the PDSME motherbord. And I checked with my POST, the latest version is the same as what I found on Supermicro's web site. There is no further update from Supermicro since I had it for many years.
  13. Thank you for sharing but can you at least name your motherboard's brand name and model. no.
  14. Hi, baboulz Yes, I did try to replace the battery with a new one, but no avail. The result is still the same.....unfortunately. The old battery tested with a multimeter the reading is 3 volts.( not 2.5 or 2.3 volts) This means the old battery still have power, so nothing to with having a flat battery.
  15. manfriday Thank you for sharing your findings. I hope everyone does the same like you! So what you are saying that there is no coloration between what type of BIOS a motherboard is using and DSM 5.0? If I am right, then forum user has to gamble a bit to buy and test a motherboard that does not have the bios resetting issue. I hope the administrator/moderator can allow a sticky to be implemented on the forum, so that interested forum users share their findings, and are informed about which board is compatible with DSM 5(i.e no bios resetting issue) and which board are not. This can avoid a lot of $$$(not mention valuable time) spend on a board that making you feel frustrating or spend $$$ on a board that you like very much and make you happy!!!
  16. Ok Guys, Here is weekend update..... I could not find the time to test on my ASUS P5G54CM-LX motherboard, may be I can find time on weekdays to test it whether there is the bios resetting problem or not. However....I did manage to test another ASUS motherboard of mine....tough I tested on my own PC, using ASUS PK5R motherboard. Refer to M/B overview: http://www.asus.com/sg/Motherboards/P5KR/ Refer to M/B spec.: http://www.asus.com/sg/Motherboards/P5KR/specifications/ Tested on: NanoBoot 5.0.3.1 DSM 5.0-4493 X64 version. The good news is, the testing result is there is NO BIOS RESETTING ISSUE on the ASUS PK5R motherboard. Just another silly theory of me(no proof to back it up), I tested 2 ASUS motherboards so far, 1st is the ASUS P5KPL/EPU and and 2nd one is ASUS P5KR motherboards, both are using American Megatrends BIOS, perhaps NanoBoot 5.0.3.1 DSM 5.0-4493 X64 version + DSM 5.0 does know how to interfere American Megatrends BIOS That is why there is no bios resetting issue on every reboot. What you guys think?
  17. Thank you for sharing, is there a sticky where all forum members can declare their motherboards has or no BIOS RESETTING issue when using DSM 5.0? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Ok, guys, I have good news and the bad news! OK the good news first.... I borrowed my friend PC which has a Asus P5PKL/EPU motherboard. Refer to the link = http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5KPLEPU/specifications Chipset it is using is an INTEL G31 Northbridge and Southbridge chipset is an ICH7. Installed NanoBoot NanoBoot 5.0.3.1 DSM 5.0-4493 X64 downloaded from http://www.xpenology.nl. And guess what??? after reboot the system, there was NO BIOS RESETTING PROBLEM!!!! So far so good! So, may be I need to buy an Asus motherboard with the similar chipsets. It seems the NanoBoot + DSM 5.0 is compatible with ASUS motherboards. Hey! I may be wrong here! You will never know, unless you tried it! I am go to test it on my Asus P5G41CM-LX motherboard over the weekend and see. OK the bad news....well, not really a bad news...my Supermicro PDSME motherboard will be retired and put aside, may be installing FreeNAS later.
  19. Hi, MikeRoxx Ah Ha....you are talking about using Advanced Power Management package- 3rd party package. I did try your method, install Perl package(it is a requirement) first....then installed the Advanced Power Management package After doing that, I went to the setting = Suspend heading under Welcome tab, then select Shutdown, and select Immediately. My PDSME motherboard rebooted, and after that.....same old story- the BIOS got reset (NOTE: Time Setting = Manual, meaning Synchronize with NTP server is disabled, just like you did) Oh well, I least I tried, But if it is working on your HP N54L system, most likely APM package only works as a workround solution for running DSM 5.0 Meaning, to solve Bios Resetting problem, and you have HP N54L system + DSM 5.0, you need to install the APM package. It only works with HP N54L system.
  20. At this stage, I am still considering whether to buy the Intel DQ35JOE motherboard from eBay as a 2nd motherboard. In the past experience, most of the 2nd motherboards that I bought from eBay, did not last very long. Especially this motherboard is "made in China" as printed on the motherboard. There are many eBay sellers are selling this particular model, I suspect that there is very high failure rate. Faulty motherboards were sent away for repairing under warranty claim, when the repair was complete, seller sell it back to the public. But I may be wrong here, just a gut feeling only! Anyway, I am very reluctant to buy unless it is the LAST resort Now....if you are prepare to wait for me to try out all possible solutions, then you are most welcome. However, there is no timeline here, I continue testing when I am free.
  21. I'm sorry but you are wrong, not sure how I formulated myself to lead you to think I have that mainboard, I have only been running xpenology on 2 HP N54L microservers, sorry for the confusion OK got it! My thoughts also got confused!
  22. I want you to bring your attention to the your statement = "UPGRADED the DQ35JOE system" This statement you are saying, at the beginning, all the testing using Trantor's 5.0 beta, GnoBoot and then Nanoboot was not done on DQ35JOE motherboard system? Right? But later, you decided to gamble a bit, bought DQ35JOE motherboard and then loaded DSM5.0 and so far no BIOS resetting issue arise. If I am right, then you are the 2nd person in the forum, to use DQ35JOE motherboard, including bearcat So, conclusion, DQ35JOE motherboard does make it the most compatible motherboard to work with DSM 5.0
