  1. If anyone of forum user owns a HP N54L system, please do a password locking in the bios and see whether it will solve the resetting bios problem during booting in POST, as I don't own one myself. I tried on my very 1st system, the Supermicro PDSME motherboard with passwork locking in bios but it didn't prevent the bios resetting happening.
  2. Hi She, So....I did play around with power schedule again this morning, and tested on the start up instead of earlier shutdown feature (tested on yesterday late afternoon) My result is.... start up (meaning schedule to start up at 8.30 am, just for example) did MESS up my ASUS bios setting. After the time has reached 8.30 am, the PC did automatically start up. But boot to DSM cannot proceed, because it stuck there in the beginning of POST, asking me to: Press F1 to Run SETUP Press F2 to load default values and continue So...She as you predicted, schedule to start up causes my ASUS bios reset I must try on the Gigabyte motherboard with dual-bios chip and see whether start up is causing BIOS resetting or not. However, just to repeat myself, scheduled shutdown works and... after I pressed the button to turn on the system when it has completely shut down, there is no bios resetting / no bios check sum error during booting up in POST . From me, the biggest worry is resetting BIOS after every reboot, however my ASUS P5G41CM-LX-http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5G41CM_LX/motherboard, does not have this problem so my worry is gone. If the power schedule of start up is not working, and shut down is working, I can live with that , and ultimately, at least I can sleep easy at night and stop worrying the resetting bios problem I can conclude that...to find a motherboard that match 100% compatible with a system hardware of an original Synology DS3612xs is quite impossible. DSM will always be 80-90% compatible with our own motherboard of choice. So, you expect to have some incompatibilities in some of the DSM software functions / features.
  3. Well...I have been very busy over last few weeks...did not have time to test out more motherboards to see if there is any issue in regards of bios resetting problem. But now...because I am having a long weekend, I manage to get my hands tested on ASUS P5G41CM-LX-http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5G41CM_LX/motherboard. The result..... Under Power Schedule tab (from Hardware & Power), I created a schedule to shut down the system daily at 18:35. The system did shutdown as expected... So, I press the start button on my PC, XPEnology system reboot up and there is no bios resetting problem/bios checksum error message appear, it booted as per normal. By the way, just want to inform all the forum users that BrainAz had tested that his Gigabyte motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R from http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3806#p22751, managed to survive a bios resetting/ bios check sum error problem due to his motherboard's dual bios in action.
  4. Well...well...well...BrainAz, you have done it again, uploading your video recording on youtube to show you that your Gigabyte Dual Bios Motherboard is really the cure for the infamous bios resetting problem. Can I buy you a jug of beer to celebrate your success? LOL Unless, someone out in the forum can counter prove your evidence, I am going to hunt down a old gigabyte motherboard with Dual Bios feature! Thank you for sharing!
  5. Great stuff, good investigation report. Now, may be dual bios Gigabyte motherboard is the solution, for solving the reseting bios nightmare! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Ok first thing first, just want to confirm that........ Whenever there is a reboot on the system, your system did not experience BIOS checksum error, and stuck at POST, and you have to physically set up the original setting in your BIOS configuration BEFORE you can proceed it further to load NANOBOOT, right? If is working normally, then it should boot normally and you should able to see NANOBOOT loading (seeing from your monitor),If it is right, congratulations, your WORST nightmare is over!!! Next step is to play around the settings on the Power Schedule, set a time for the system to boot up, say everyday at 9.00am. if it boots up at 9.00am without being resetting your BIOS configuration and stuck at POST, then pad yourself at the back!!! Resetting BIOS is not an issue on your motherboard.
  7. This is the camera I have http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291158228133 It's not on the list and even using the onvif setting it fails to connect to the camera. Using IE I am able to access the camera and it's on the same network Please note that when you see something, it is not always what you get especially those cheap IP cams in the market, which claim to be fully ONVIF compliant but in fact they are fake. You need to do a checking with ONVIF website whether the manufacturer has submit their products for approval. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  9. Ok then, if you know what you are doing (spending wisely), please let us know your result, as it will be interesting to know if it has bios reseting problem with Gigabyte Award Bios. Thank you Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Correct!, warning...warning...don't get your hope to HIGH yet, . Test this first, before buying more hard disk to use on the other 6 yellow + 2 purple SATA II ports which is available on this motherboard. Unless, you have spare cash lying around to spend.
  11. Ok thanks for the feedback, I wonder if there is motherboard that is 100% compatible available in market, so we don't have to keep testing.
  12. Hi Bod, Thanks for your feedback. Are you right about not touching the Task Scheduler, and you don't have BIOS resetting problem? So, this is true, I guess that is reason why the forum users did not highlight this is a common problem since Task Scheduler is not a popular settings to be used, I suppose. Anyway thank for your further testing. I suggest you stick to ASUS motherboards. So far, I found any BIOS resetting problem using Nanoboot.
  13. AH...HA! Someone in the forum has discovered that American Megatrend BIOS motherboards has NO problem on BIOS resetting just like I predicted earlier. Check out the link here: http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3508&p=21258#p21258 PLEASE IGNORE THIS COMMENT ABOUT MY THEORY. THIS THEORY DOES NOT PROVE ALL MOTHERBOARDS with American Megatrends BIOS has no BIOS resetting problem.
  14. AH...HA! Someone in the forum has discovered that American Megatrend BIOS motherboards has NO problem on BIOS resetting just like I predicted earlier. Check out the link here: http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3508&p=21258#p21258 HP N54L with American Megatrend BIOS suffers with BIOS resetting. So AMIBIOS do suffer. Now using DSM 5.0.4493 Update 3. Was using 4.2.3211 with same problem. I have tried manual time update instead of NTP. Disabled all DSM Tasks and Power Management. Tried Nanoboot x86 and Nanoboot x64. Changes BIOS every restart. Hi Bod, thanks for your feedback!!!! I should have know better, because I came across this link: http://www.xpenology.nl/hp-n40l-n54l-bios-modificatie/ If you scroll down and you will see BIOS name is American Megatrend Well, so much of hoping my THEORY is right. Now I can see Bod has prove my THEORY is wrong here! As matter of fact, having an American Megatrend BIOS DOES NOT mean that you WON'T have BIOS resetting issue. So, I guess it all depend on your luck! So far as ASUS motherboards + American Megatrend BIOS does not have any bios resetting issue.
  15. Not a problem, just read at this post: http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3459 The problem is the forum does not have a sticky to show you or warn you about it before you start installing into the hardware. So the onus is up you to "dig out" information from the forum. That is read the post that is related to what you are going to do- Installing Nanoboot. The reason being, I think, I may be wrong here, most forum users are using VM stuff.
  16. Yes, much easier than working out through getting information from the forum! That is for sure Also, using XPEnology does have some caveats, which the forum does not elaborate before you begin. Caveats meaning some function may not work depending on which version of boot image you use.
  17. @She, May be you try this method suggested LINKS listed below by a forum user MikeRoxx, this guy is using a 3rd party unofficial Syno package in dealing with Advance Power Management which may related to Power Schedule. It did not work for me, because my motherboard hardware is not HP N45L. As mine is Supermicro PDSME motherboard. Read the links below, I hope you can find out a workaround solution to your problem. http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3289&start=10#p19402 http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3289&start=20#p19460 http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3289&start=20#p19585

  19. I am just guessing here, may be....may be.... to solve the BIOS resetting problem. You need to start from the beginning..... You need to install DSM 4.2 first, and see whether there is any bios resetting problem. If no, then upgrade it DSM 5 and see there is change? If no bios resetting problem after doing the upgrade, then this is the solution
  20. Thanks for your valuable feedback and the link given above. Firstly, I must add, HAVING THE LATEST IS NOT ALWAYS THE GREATEST, this is my experience with any IT company from TAIWAN. They don't fully TEST the whole thing before revealing and releasing it to the public. Now you have installed SSS v6.3, they treat us like guinea pigs / testing lab rats. If you have problems naturally you voice out your concerns in the Synology Community Forum. But frankly, they are helpless. So we are stuck in this hopeless situation. When Synology sees that the problem is slowly creeping up and reach the boiling point, then they probably will release an updated version of SSS v6.3.2 (something like that) in order to solve the issue. I don't experience any lagging problem, probably...... 1) I use motion detection(MD) directly from the camera, and not using SSS to do MD. 2) It is highly recommend to use Internet Explorer to do live viewing, because it reduce CPU consumption. (If you use other browser like Firefox or Chrome....prepare to see your CPU throttle to FULL SPEED 100%) 3) My PC is a C2D Quad Core CPU @ 2.5GHz, but Synology recommend to use Intel i5 CPU (minimum hardware) 4) Probably SSS v6.3 may be too taxing on Synology NAS machines (especially with the older model with older hardware specification- low end CPU) I am thinking of buying a new Intel i5 PC, just to see whether it can cope the task of doing live viewing on the H.264 streaming cameras.
  21. So, you are saying that after reading the link above, flashed it and, you still getting bios reset problem? If you still having this problem, then you need to post question, and see some one from forum can help you, or search d forum.
  22. Sigh.....so no one in the forum having the problem of mine?
  23. @She, I don't own a HP N54L machine, so I don't have any experience in the hardware whatsoever, the only thing I can advice is click this link:http:// http://www.xpenology.nl/hp-n40l-n54l-bios-modificatie/ Don't worry the language, it is in Dutch. on the top right section click on the Great Britain Flag for English Translation. I hope you can find the solution there. BTW, do you mind stating what is the brand name of the BIOS running in you HP microserver N54L machine? Thank you.
  24. Hi All, Can someone in the forum agree with my theory: All American Megatrend BIOS motherboards HAS NO problem on BIOS resetting, after it has installed DSM 5.0 based the latest 64bit = DSM_DS3612xs_4493.pat software?
