  3. Hi Thomas, thanks for sharing your experience! I beg the difference to your statement. Each motherboard behaved differently than the others. My Supermicro PDSME motherboard will have BIOS corruption on every reboot, regardless of you have made any settings on DSM.

  5. Hi Wolverine, I can feel your frustration, Because, when I first try on my Supermicro PDSME motherboard, any setting change in DSM 5.0, resulted a BIOS reset upon reboot the system. OK, here is my only solution that I can advise the following: 1) Buy a 2nd hand Intel DQ35JOE or DQ35JO motherboard, someone recommended to me last year and is working 100% no Bios reset when rebooting. 2) Buy a Gigabyte motherboard with DUAL Bios feature- when 1 get overwritten, the spare 1 will take over. (Not sure it is good solution because, the memory that store the BIOS has limited writes) 3) If you are not planning to play with the POWER Schedule, that is what time does your XPEnologized PC requires to boot up and shut down, then go for the ASUS motherboards running the old socket 775 CPUs. If you change any setting in DSM 5.0, it won't cause the BIOS to reset when rebooting on the next time, provided that you are not going to use POWER Schedule

  7. Hello, Here I am again. I also had issues Cmos Checksum bad. Tested on: FOXCONN D51S motherboard and a Zotac ZBOX HD-ND22 system. Both give a Cmos error if I add a Startup trigger in the Power schedule. (Shutdown trigger don’t give issues) Wake On Lan works on both systems out of the box. Make sure WOL is enabled on BIOS and DSM. What works for me is make only a schedule for shutdown! and save it. Turn off the NAS. Then when I push the power button of the system it starts without a CMOS error. Sow how to auto power on you Xpenology NAS? Well if you have a Router that is compatible with DD-WRT firmware you can flash the DD-WRT firmware on it and make a Cron Job for a time Scheduled WOL for more info see: http://www.howtogeek.com/70084/how-to-schedule-your-computer-to-wake-up-at-specific-times-with-dd-wrt/ Go to DD-WRT router page Administration and scroll down to cron. Type in the text box: Example: 10 17 * * * root /usr/sbin/wol -p 7 -i 192.168.1.255 00:01:02:2B:AB:26 Above line will wake the the device/NAS at 17:10 o’clock that has mac address 00:01:02:2B:AB:26 And this wil be done every day. For more options see the link above. Make sure that the dd-wrt router has a good time. You can find it on the status page of the DD-WRT router. Otherwise it is not working. If not you can set it by dd-wrt router page SETUP —> Basic Setup —> Time settings, enable and add a good NTP address. Then check the status page again. And see if the time is right. I tested it 4 times. This works for me! Hope this helps someone. Hello partyguy81 welcome back again! Thank you for posting your solution to the community! What can I say? Your piece of workaround is nothing but AWESOME I wish I could have google a bit and do a bit research!!! Albeit, I am getting busy with work, not enough time spend of time geeking around! I don't have DD-WRT firmware on my router, but only have Tomato firmware, I guess the cron job will get it working. I loved to test out some day when I get my free time back! Again, thank you for sharing your 2nd workaround that is using a DD-WRT firmware loaded compatible router to wake up your XPEnologized PC!!!!

  9. Hi thanks for your input, I notice your motherboard is a Foxconn motherboard which is behaving not like other mainstream motherboards do when XPEnology is loaded on the system. That is, majority symptom is when play with the Power Schedule(set a time to shut down or boot up), the BIOS will be reset to default, requires user to manually input its settings But in your case, your Foxconn motherboard is able to shutdown properly without screwing up the BIOS. Well it is good to hear your feedback [emoji41] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. At first, I did not know what is ss4200, until I look up in Google..... Ok, frankly, I don't have the answer to your question unless I am the actual creator/designer of Synology DSM My advice is, if you really want to boot up automatically then here is the solution (may not be solution to you) Note: This solution only works for automatically start up only. 1) Buy a power AC auto timer. Set the time to turn on your SS4200 at certain time, say...everyday at 10.00am. 2) Go to bios and see whether you can enable a setting for AC power loss, enable this setting. This means that when there is a sudden power coming into your SS4200, it will turn on and boot to DSM automatically. 3) Plug in the AC auto timer into your wall power outlet, and then plug in the power cord of SS4200 into the AC auto timer. 4) Plug in the power cord of the other end, into your SS4200. You are done! Your SS4200 will turn on automatically everyday at 10.00am, however, allow the DSM to turn off the automatically in Power Schedule I hope this solution will solve the problem of yours. Or alternatively, look for an Intel DQ35J0E motherboard, I have tested personally the auto ON and OFF both is working flawlessly, except it does not support AHCI or not working properly in BIOS. if turn on AHCI, the system will hung.
  11. Hi All, This is yet another update... I managed to test some more motherboards from Asrock over last week. Unfortunately, the 2 motherboards that I tested were far far worst than I expected. Both the motherboards fail to completely loading up NANOBOOT during installation. Both the motherboards will hang during when NANOBOOT is loading the drivers. You have to press the reset button, to boot up from POST again. In short, both the motherboards shown below, it not compatible with NANOBOOT. 1) Asrock G41M-VS3 R2.0 = http://www.asrock.com/mb/intel/g41m-vs3%20r2.0/ 2) Asrock G31M-GS R2.0 = http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/G31M-GS%20R2.0/ So you are being warned! PLEASE IGNORE THE MESSAGE ABOVE, NANOBOOT WAS NOT ABLE LOAD DURING INSTALLATION BECAUSE I HAD AN OLD PSU WHICH IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE NEW MOTHERBOARDS LISTED ABOVE.
  12. Hi, Balrog, Thank you for sharing your contribution about a workaround for BIOS resetting issue on the HP Microserver Gen8 I hope users in the forum who owns a HP Mircroserver Gen8 can test it out to see if it is working or not. Since, I don't have one to try. Anyway.........someone out there, has to do some dirty work and hours and hours of testing for the betterment of getting Xpenology to be more compatible with our 3rd party hardware. Thank you again.....

  14. Realtek chipset is well known for terrible performance in the Nix. The time to troubleshoot the problem can be time consuming. Better get an Intel NIC and be done with, unless you have plenty spare time to pinpoint the source of the problem. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  17. I wish that I can offer any help. But as I said earlier, I don't have any HP microserver to test. My topic is mainly concerning about 3rd party motherboard used for testing DSM. I am not sure what you mentioned about "special event spk will help"
  18. Same goes with my Asus motherboards, having password protected in its BIOS setting DOES NOT WORK. Meaning if I set up automatically to boot up (scheduled to boot up) when the system starts up, it reset my bios setting and having BIOS password enabled did not prevent it at all. However, automatically shut down and start up again did not cause any BIOS resetting problem. But I did saw someone using HP microserver n54l. mentioned that BIOS password did work!.http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3073 Unfortunately, I cannot verify it at all, because I don't have one! Thanks
  19. If you are in the real tight budget, then you should look at FOSCAM camera (if you can get it at your country). But do expect to have some minor bugs.(Some bugs that you can live with it, not a major hassle to your own standard). To your best interest, buy one to test it out. You will find the latest Surveillance Station version support a FULL range of FOSCAM cameras. But do check on the Synology Forum users for problems that may arise using it. Albeit, FOSCAM cameras have limited range. E.g. FOSCAM camera don't have outdoor DOME cameras. They have only outdoor BULLET cameras. Bear in mind, that even though FOSCAM cameras are label ONVIF, don't be fooled by the label. Labeling of ONVIF is false, because the cameras are not approved by ONVIF, the manufacturer is an ONVIF member, but none of the cameras are approved to be ONVIF compliant.
  20. Hi All, As the subject stated, has anyone got problem getting drivers to work? NanoBoot 5.0.3.2- does it support Atheros AR8151 NIC? I am going to buy a motherboard that has this NIC on board. Before, I go and buy it, I need to know whether it has drivers to support it or not. I understand that NanoBoot 5.0.3.2 support Atheros AR8171 NIC by following the link: http://www.xpenology.nl/nanoboot-released-boot-image-version-5-0-3-2/ Does that also means it support Atheros AR8151 NIC? Thank you.
  21. Hi All, Just another update on my testing motherboards. Please don't bother to use /buy this ASROCK socket 775 motherboard: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/G41C-GS%20R2.0/ It is the ASROCK G41C-GS R2.0 You are wasting your time and money Why? This motherboard will get BIOS check sum error (or BIOS being reset) on every time you reboot/restart DSM. So you are being warn!
  22. Hi BrianAz, Thank you very much for testing out the scheduled Start up and shut down feature. Personally, before I buy a Gigabyte motherboard, I would prefer to have more than 4 SATA ports. Hence I prefer the GA-EP45-UD3R motherboard as you are now testing which has a total of 6 ports. However, I did not feel comfortable having a separate VGA PCI-E card running on the GA-EP45-UD3R motherboard, since it does not come with on board build-in VGA port. So, I search around and found this: Gigabyte GA-G41M-COMBO link: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3505#ov I have checked the specification and this motherboard does have DUAL BIOS feature. In your opinion, does the DUAL BIOS on the GA-G41M-COMBO reprogram the bios chip when there is automatically scheduled start up? Same as your GA-EP45-UD3R motherboard? Thank you.
  23. Thanks for information, if schedule start up works and after system is booted, dual bios kicks in (preventing any bios corruption) then I will see if this motherboard is available for sale on eBay or not. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Hi BrainAz, I am thinking seriously about getting the Gigabyte dual-bios motherboard, would you mind, if you can test whether schedule to start up, working ok (I know it should work, but just to double confirm it) Thank you.
  25. I am not surprise at all, because Blueiris is a very CPU hogging CCTV software. Unless Blueiris supports multi-streaming. Meaning when do live viewing, the live viewing resolution is keep at minimum (smaller viewing boxes), in order to save CPU resources.
