  1. - Outcome of the update: SUCCESSFUL - DSM version before update: DSM 6.2. - forgot the details - Loader version and model: JUN'S LOADER v1.03b - DS3615xs - Using custom extra.lzma: No - Installation type: BAREMETAL - Dell Optiplex 980 - Additional comments: It just worked, no tinkering necessary.
  2. I just did that. Turns out that the GC is only warm to touch and it's fine to leave the fan unplugged. Still, this is only a workaround. An ideal solution would be to fix the loader (add drivers, config, or whatever) so that everything works as it should. Under 6.1 loader it actually was working - the problem appeared after upgrade to 6.2. I wish I was able to assist with fixing that...
  3. I am running DSM6.2 using loader 1.03 on a Dell Optiplex 980 workstation. Since my upgrade from 6.1 to 6.2 I am experiencing high noise from a fan. It turns out that the noisy fan is the one from the graphics card - not the main system fan. The GC is also warm to touch, as if working hard. What's got a display-less server to do with the graphics card? This was not happening under 6.1. Anyway, I tried removing the GC, but then the machine doesn't boot at all. The onboard monitor output is not working - no matter with or without GC, regardless of any BIOS settings. At some point I've reconnected the monitor from onboard to GC output after boot and I saw a message saying something that processor is not capable of supporting on-board video. I am therefore stuck with noisy GC. Does anyone have any idea about possible solution to the noise problem?
  4. It works! With the 1.03 loader I was able to install DSM 6.2 on my test drive. Then I moved the 2 drives from my DS211j to Optiplex. The drives were recognized and "migrated" to DS3615, and all is working good. The only issue I have with this setup is excessive fan noise. It seems the fan is always on a high setting. In the DSM settings under power management -> fan speed I only have one option: cooling mode. Is it possible to enable other modes? How do I do this?
  5. Hello all, I have a real DS211j - over the years it has served me well but it's became painfully slow. When I started looking for an upgrade, I came upon this forum and found out about xpenology. Big "THANK YOU" to all the people involved in this project! Next, I was able to successfully install DS 6.1 (DS3615xs) on an old Dell Optiplex 980 PC. I've used an empty HD that I had lying around for testing. Now, I would like to bring my two HDs that are sitting in the 211j (with DSM 6.2) to the Optiplex box. I realize DSM 6.2 is not compatible with the 1.02b loader that I'm using. How do I make sure - what steps to take - that my disks are transferred to the new box and I don't loose any data? Please help.
