  1. I want to add an old SSD that I have lying around to my DS3615 but it won't let me create the SSD cache. Is there anything else I have to do? The SSD is recognized by the system and I tried both, creating a volume or leaving it as it is but the create button under SSD cache is still deactivated. Is there anything else I have to do?

  2. I just tried unraid and it is a disaster. It all depends on docker containers and open source packages. File sharing and syncing is kind of ok with nextcloud but after that there pretty much no good software for anything. Even paid backup solutions are a joke compared to Synology. If this project dies I would rather spend 500 bugs on a real Synology than deal with this mess.

  3. I used Google Drive for a long time as offsite Backup with HyperBackup for a long time and it works flawless. I switched to OneDrive a few month back because it is a better overall deal. You get Office for 5 PCs for around $60 and you get 5x 1TB storage on top. The only issue is that you cannot backup with HyperBackup directly to OneDrive. There are some workarounds but they are all ugly. What I do now is that I just backup to a local folder and then have that folder sync to OneDrive with CloudSync. That also works fine for several month but of course you need the local space to keep your important files more than once but storage is not really that expensive anymore.

you could have just copied the extra.lzma to the 2nd partition before starting the update to 6.2.3 in the dsm gui, in the process of preparing the update before reboot it will copy the new kernel files to usb and restart, when placing the files before the update (they are only used when booting) you would have had a clean flawless update process

Sorry but now I am really confused. When I am on version 6.1.7 can I just download the latest 6.2.3 and install it from the gui, then shutdown and upgrade to the pendrive using the original Jun's 1.03mod files? Do I still need to copy "DS3615: extra.lzma for loader 1.03b_mod ds3615 DSM 6.2.2 v0.5_test" to the second partition or was that just for 6.2?

    HP ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 - Server - Ultra-Micro-Tower - 1-Weg - 1 x Pentium G2020T

    and DSM 6.1.7-15284 Update 2

I also see this video so i can install 6.2 on gen 8  or it's depend wich gen8

So in this video it seems as you can use the onboard network cards on ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 but in this thread it seems as you can not.

Does anybody why this works in the video? Has anybody installed 6.2.2 on a ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 with the onboard cards successfully?

Baremetal HP Microserver Gen8 with Xeon 1265Lv2 succesfully updated to 6.2 based on DS3615xs

I just copied the new loader img to the microsd, edited the grub.cfg and uploaded the new pat file without any problems in the process.

    Just waiting for a hp-ams compiled for 6.2 ...

Probably will move to a DS3617xs in a few weeks, but as of today I'm too lazy to reinstall and configure every package ...

Why would you change from the DS3615xs to the DS3617xs?

  11. Hallo,

Firstly, my apologies if this has been answered already. Ive been unable to get a clear answer here for days.

I have a valid serial number from a DS3615xs that had died, and I never got around to RMAing before it was lost for good.

I have a DSM 6.1.5 Virtual machine on ESXI 6.0.

I am trying to get a clear understanding of how a Mac addresses are derived from a Serial number.
Ive gone over the discussions and tools out there for it, but it seems all of them assume a generated serial number, and not one that I already have.

Any information you guys can give will be extremely helpful.

I have tried the same thing, I have an old Synology box. Using the serial number and MAC does not give you access to QuickConnect and of course even if it would it would be a violation of a bunch of Synology policies. I just thought I put that information out here so it saves other people the trouble of even trying. So far every software package runs fine and I have not found any limitation besides QuickConnect.

Thanks for reply, I’m not sure what happened to the original drive, It was working fine then disappeared, only thing I can think of is that it did an update, I’m not sure what else I can do to see what’s caused it.

Have you tried to connect to iLo? There some good information about the generall health of system. Was the system setup as raid?

  16. Hallo,

    Stephan
