  1. Hello all I am building a custom case for my set up and need it to know if it would be illegal to imprint or laser cut the word Xpenology on the case.
  2. Hello all Looking to build a second Xepnology NAS with a mini-itx motherboard with only (1) pcie 3.0 x16 slot , looking to add a riser card for at least adding a 10gbe mellanox card and a sas controller card for 12 sata drives. Its a ASRock H61MV-ITX... picture below. Im building my own case to accomodate all components.
  3. tigs...... good point.... then probably a good idea to have one
  4. Thanks...thats exactly what I did last night :-)...
  5. Has anyone develop a script to simulate the "reset button" functionality ? I ran into some issues last night after the parity checked finished and was not able to login back into it. After many tries and several recommendations online I decided to start from scratch again.....there was no data in the drives yet as I was still testing....but I wonder if a "reset button" script would have been helpful...thanks in advance!!!
  6. test4321 Thanks for the advise......I have been looking at a couple of Supermicro server motherboards......still doing research... I have also read the SSD cache reviews...not sure applies to my current use...believe cache would be more useful for files that I would use often...according to the Synology website..." SSD cache can improve the performance of random access by storing frequently accessed data on the SSD cache. SSD cache can be mounted on a volume or iSCSI LUN (Block-Level)." https://www.synology.com/en-us/knowledgebase/DSM/help/DSM/StorageManager/genericssdcache ......currently my plan is for long term redundancy back ups....but I wonder if I decide to run virtual machines in xepnology would take advantage of this....
  7. FYI....for testing purposes only.... I bought (2) MNPA19-XTR 10GB MELLANOX CONNECTX-2 PCIe X8 10Gbe SFP+ NETWORK CARD W/CABLE from eBay.....pretty cheap ($48.00)including (2) SFP+ cables and it worked out of the box. Im using an older motherboard (MSI G41TM-E43) with only 2GB of RAM on a LGA775 Core 2Duo and Im getting 398.7 Write and 452.4 read when transferring files from my Mac Pro 3,1....the Mellanox doesn't work with my Mac Pro so I had to get a SolarFlare SFN5122F Dual Port 10Gbe PCIe Adapter SF329-9021-R6 ($44.00). Setup was straight forward and speeds are very close to my OWC Thunderbay IV in RAID 0 My current setup only have 4 SATAII ports with transfer rate up to 3Gb/s, ( 4 x 3TB Drives) so maybe once I move to a faster motherboard, speeds will increase. Can anyone comment or share what could contribute for speed bottleneck as the numbers of drives start to increase? 8 drives, 12 drives etc...my goal is to build a 12 drive system (36TB)
  8. Thanks for the update Polanskiman.....do you know of any compatibility list for my version...if not.....can you please point me in the right direction on how I go about injecting drivers for the build...thanks
  9. DfDs....you are correct. ..my bad...I am not 100% sure if it was Junes loader...but for model under info center shows 3617xs
  10. Newbie here......so I have successfully installed DSM 6.1.5-15254 Update 1into an older GIGA G41TM-43 motherboard, which only has SATA ports...so far just running (2) 1TB 3.5 drives. So my question is, looking at the compatible hardware page http://xpenology.me/compatible/. if I add a 4 port PCI-e controller, would I have any problems having a total of 8 drives? or does all HDD must have the same controller? Thanks in advance
  11. sbv3000...thanks for the fast reply.......it never boots into or posts any information into the screen....I can actually see the flash drive blinking like it is reading the drive to start the process, but then it stops flashing and continues into the windows operating systems.
  12. Hello Xepnology Community....I am very enthusiastic about leaning and testing out this platform. I am having issues installing it into a fan-less Intel motherboard Intel® Desktop Board D510MO. I have tried out 3 different flash drives thinking that there might an issue with it, but still no luck. I went ahead and try another motherboard setup with the same 3 flash drives and it worked, so i can take the flash drive out of the equation. I have done some reading thru the forum but didn't find anyone else with the same motherboard in question. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. https://ark.intel.com/products/42645/Intel-Desktop-Board-D510MO
