  1. Comme c'etait un nouveau serveur j'ai faites l'installation "baremetal" mais j'ai suivi les instructions de IG-88. Pour toi, Case 1 est correct mais pour moi Case 2 etait correct. Case 1: update from 6.2.0 to 6.2.2 Basically you semi brick your system on purpose by installing 6.2.2 and when booting fails you just copy the new extra.lzma to your usb flash drive by plugging it to a windows system (witch can only mount the 2nd partition that contains the extra.lzma) or you mount the 2nd partition of the usb on a linux system Restart and then it will finish the update process and when internet is available it will (without asking) install the latest update (at the moment update4) and reboot, so check your webinterface of DSM to see whats going or if in doubt wait 15-20 minutes check if the hdd led's are active and check the webinterface or with synology assistant, if there is no activity for that long then power off and start the system, it should work now Case 2: fresh install with 6.2.2 or "migration" (aka upgrade) from 6.0/6.1 Pretty much the normal way as described in the tutorial for installing 6.x (juns loader, osfmount, Win32DiskImager) but in addition to copy the extra.lzma to the 2nd partition of the usb flash drive you need to copy the new kernel of dsm 6.2.2 too so that kernel (booted from usb) and extra.lzma "match" You can extract the 2 files (zImage and rd.gz) from the DSM *.pat file you download from synology https://archive.synology.com/download/DSM/release/6.2.2/24922/DSM_DS3615xs_24922.pat or https://archive.synology.com/download/DSM/release/6.2.2/24922/DSM_DS3617xs_24922.pat These are basically zip files so you can extract the two files in question with 7zip (or other programs) You replace the files on the 2nd partition with the new ones and that's it, install as in the tutorial In case of a "migration" the dsm installer will detect your former dsm installation and offer you to upgrade (migrate) the installation, usually you will loose plugins, but keep user/shares and network settings
  5. To close the loop. I ended up buying a gen 8 with a 1220L v2 already installed for a decent price. Hopefully the onboard AES-NI support will help. Fan noise isn't silent but it's not bad. We'll see if that changes as I move my drives over. iLO is pretty cool. I was able to get a 60 day full trial license from HP, the remote console alone is tremendously useful. Big thanks to @IG-88 for everything you do for this community. Your extra.lzma worked perfectly!
  6. Oh I have read here and other places (too much probably :)). Most comments about sound levels are positive but there are some negative ones that worry me. I was just planning on replacing the two fans with silent ones but there are comments about the HP bios complaining when the fans spin too slowly.
  7. Thanks IG-88, Still debating the sound concern but for ≈$100 I might just try it.
  8. Thanks Dfds, do you have one? If so how noisy are they? The offsite is at our daughter's place and right now sits in her living room so noise will be an issue. Thanks, Berardino
  9. Hi all, I have a beefy xpenology box and am using a Synology DS416j as my offsite backup target. It's just not hacking it anymore I'm thinking of replacing it with a cheap N40L. If I add in an intel NIC, will this run the latest 6.2.2 using Jun's 1.03b bootloader? I can't find a clear yes/no on this so thought I'd ask. Thanks in advance for everyone's help. Berardino

    DSM 6.2 Loader

Sorry missed that part. Nice little box! In addition to what IG-88 suggests, have you tried running ESXI on the machine first and then hosting xpenology as a vm? 1.03b with 3615 is the most stable setup and if it's only for offsite backups you don't need hw transcoding. Good luck!

    DSM 6.2 Loader

Use 1.03b (DS3615xs) with 6.2.2 update 3 BUT add an external Intel based NIC (HP NC360t is a good cheap one). Realtek isn't supported anymore so even though it's updating you won't be able to see it on the network.
  12. Outcome of the installation/update: SUCCESSFUL - DSM version prior update: DSM 6.2.2-24922 Update 2 - Loader version and model: Jun's Loader v1.03b - DS3615xs - Using custom extra.lzma: NO - Installation type: BAREMETAL - Chinese x79a1 MB / E5 1620 v2 / 32GB ECC / HP NC360T NIC / LSI 9220-8i / Disks: 8 x [4TB,3TB,2TB] motley mix of HDD, 2 x 256GB SSD - Additional comments: After reboot everything recognised and working
  13. Yeah me too. Seems to work better than 3617 from what I've seen on this site. Hopefully Jun gets DSM 7 working when it comes out.
  14. The Realtek NIC is not supported with 6.2.2. I had the same issue and bought a cheap hp nic that uses the intel chipset. Now everything works great! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    DSM 6.2 Loader

6.2.1 u6 on DS3615 works with 1.03b for me. The only issue is that Synology removed the Realtek driver so I had to install an intel NIC to get ethernet working. What issues are you having?

    DSM 6.2 Loader

Chinese x79 mobo from ebay E5 1620 v2 CPU 32GB (4x8GB) DDR3 ECC LSI 9220-8i (in IT mode) 8x SATA HDD (3tb and 2tb mix) 2x 850 EVO 256gb (cache) HP nc360t NIC (so that it works with 6.2.1) Define Mini case with 2x5.25->3x3.5" adapter Running Jun's 1.03b w/DS3615xs 6.2.1u4 That should be it. I'm going to add a 10gbe card at some point (why not) but I'm good for now. Hope this helps ... Berardino

    DSM 6.2 Loader

The shared link below is the best list I've found but it's only 6.1.7. Flyride is supposed to create a 6.2.1 version but I haven't seen it. My guess though is that 6.2.1 DS3615 hasn't changed much. The Synology site lists 3rd party HW they support (NICs is the most useful part) but it doesn't cover "built in" hardware. Hope this helps ... Berardino

    DSM 6.2 Loader

According to this 6.1.7 has the driver built in so it should still be included in 6.2.1 and should work. UPDATE: I just lsmod checked and it is still installed in 6.2.1 for DS3615 (what I'm running).

    DSM 6.2 Loader

Yes, I'm using 1.03b, 3615 and 9220-8i and running fine under 6.2.1 update 4. You nee to make sure you have a NIC that is intel e1000 based. I bought a cheap HP NC360T ($14 shipped to my door!) as my onboard NIC was realtek based.

Thanks, hopefully Jun will figure out a new loader soon so that non-Synology drivers work

    DSM 6.2 Loader

Sure, attached. Just to test my theory, I commented out set sata_args completely and it still works perfectly. See screenshot of Storage Manager: 2x onboard SATA 6G (SSDs), 2x onboard SATA 3G (open), then 8x LSI ports (with raid array). I'm losing 2 onboard SATA 3G ports but that's not a problem right now. Hope this helps ... BTW Are you running 1.04b with 918 image? Does hw transcoding work with your E3-1276 v3 chip? Thanks, Berardino grub.cfg
  22. baratta930

    DSM 6.2 Loader

Figured it out sata_args is only used for VMWare/ESXI booting. If you look at the loadlinux function in grub.cfg it passes bootdev_args to the kernel. bootdev_args is evaluated using eval "set bootdev_args=\"\$${bootdev}_args\"" bootdev is the 2nd value passed to loadlinux and is "usb" for Baremetal and "sata" for VMWare/ESXI. So sata_args is only used for VMWare/ESXI and will have no impact on Baremetal. If you want to play with SataPortMap (which works perfectly for Baremetal BTW) then add it to "extra_args_3615" (3617, etc.) so that you're not modifying "common_args_3615". Hope this helps ... Berardino

    DSM 6.2 Loader

Only one sata in the chipset + LSI card. SataPortMap=48 works perfectly when I add it to "common_args_3615" in the grub config. See attached screenshot. (4 from onboard sata + 8 from LSI). (BTW Ignore the verifying hard disks, I was playing with DiskIdxMap and lost the raid for a moment ) The problem is when adding it to "sata_args", it doesn't work (6 from onboard sata + 8 from LSI) I had originally modified synoinfo.conf but wanted to get to a "stock" install to avoid updates removing the synoinfo.conf changes (happened before). dmesg is attached. Thanks, Berardino dmesg.txt
