I love those "Frankenunits"

@d3dx9: prima Anleitung!
  4. If you copy files on the same nas using windows explorer it doesn't transfer the data to your local machine. It only advises the server to do the copy task. If you move files on the server it does that almost instantly. OK, if you stay on the same share. If speed is your main criteria and you got to move a lot of data the fastest way to go is to connect through ssh and work on the nas.
  5. Another option might be to use a fileshare (SMB/AFP). Is browser speed really an issue here? If I understand it correctly you are trying to move files that are already on your nas to another folder? Then the browser is not involved in the copy operation itself. BTW I never do these tasks in a browser. My second preferred way is to use an ssh connection to the nas and use some console stuff (cp).
  6. Hi jokies, thank you for your answer. In fact it is the s3 state. Synology doesn't need it on their own machines because they have a very low power profile and are able to use a mode they call hibernate - basically HDD spindown and low power consumption by CPU etc. A lot of people here seem to have problems with the hibernate state on their franken units and so do I. (No HDD spindown, high power consumption) That is where s2ram comes into play. I guess a lot of the units used for XPEnology are based on intel CPUs that support S3. I installed bootstrap dev tools on my machine and tried to build 'suspend' but I get the following error: "Required pciutils >= 2.2.4 not found". Looks like there are some header-files missing. And even if I found these header files I don't know if gnoboot's kernel was compiled with options that would allow 's2ram' to work.

(z.B. Marvell Ethernet-Treiber)

    Lost WOL

Hi, I don't know if it might help but my first line in /etc/rc.local is: ethtool -s eth0 wol g for me WOL still works.

11. Greetings, is it possible to build s2ram from the suspend project for DSM5 on gnoboot 10.4? What would be needed for that? I have access to Win7 / OSX Mavericks / Ubuntu 10.? systems. So building on Linux is an option. Background: I run a H340 headless system with 2x2TB and 2x1TB WD-Drives. Spin-down is not working for me. The system takes ~55 W. It is powered on by WOL when I start one of my regular systems or by actively sending WOL via IOS-App. I adapted a script I found in the synology forum to poweroff the H340 if it is no longer needed (no other machine online, no WIN/AFP shares active, CPU less than 10%, no connections on known ports for streaming...). That works quite well, but... it takes too long after the WOL packet to boot up the system. It would be great to suspend the system to RAM. It worked under the original WHSv1 OS so the hardware should be capable to do so. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Skulptis

Ziemlich weit unten, Kommentar "March 22, 2014 at 8:04 AM". https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=341349716188906724&postID=8434459298580355567 Viele Grüße
  13. I guess you are totally on the woodway here OK I mean you are barking up the wrong tree. hd0,0 means frist device, first partition and is definetely right if the system boots from the stick. to install you may edit the menu.lst like this: default 1 timeout 0 fallback 0 On reboot during installation you may change this back to default 0 timeout 0 fallback 0 vga= 0x370 is definetely wrong as there is no such video mode. Should be vga=0x307. and if I am right netif_num=0 means no network so you will not see your system. Correct me if I'm wrong.
  14. I had the same issue during my upgrade some days ago. I followed the steps mentioned in one of the last posts in this thread here: http://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=74136 That brought back my PhotoStation.
  15. Hi there. I installed DSM 5.0 4458 by using gnoboot yesterday successfully as an upgrade from 4.3. The system is run on an old Acer H340 headless system. To solve the issues with the video mode you could edit the menu_alpha.lst by adding video mode as bootflag. Video mode 370 is invalid. I guess that's a typo. Should better be 307. Like this: title gnoboot-alpha root (hd0,0) kernel /zImage vga=0x0307 sn=B3JN12345 Thanks to gnoboot for the great work.
