  1. Consider reminding these excerpt from their GPL Licence published at synology website: Conveying Non-Source Forms. (...) b) Convey the object code in, or embodied in, a physical product (including a physical distribution medium), accompanied by a written offer, valid for at least three years and valid for as long as you offer spare parts or customer support for that product model, to give anyone who possesses the object code either (1) a copy of the Corresponding Source for all the software in the product that is covered by this License, on a durable physical medium customarily used for software interchange, for a price no more than your reasonable cost of physically performing this conveying of source, or (2) access to copy the Corresponding Source from a network server at no charge. and then remind the consequence of not doing so : 8. Termination. You may not propagate or modify a covered work except as expressly provided under this License. Any attempt otherwise to propagate or modify it is void, and will automatically terminate your rights under this License (including any patent licenses granted under the third paragraph of section 11). Therefore, seems like their DSM 6.0 is actually without a GPL licence that has been terminated.... !
  2. Seriously? What you are benefiting from is hard work of synology devs and the fact that their platform is open enough to let you play with. Xpenology is just a nice hackthat sometimes works, sometime doesn't. But that is the whole difference between a hack and genuine development. I do respect the hack for what it is and was trying to push towards a new solution. But gratitude is a word that does not fit the context.
  3. Wow! So much violence and so much self estime on basically a crack of synology software. Just to reassure the "not-douchebags" here; I am not depending at all from new release and yes, I buy synoology for all my needs. I have only one machine on Xpenoboot that does not hold any backups, nor anything that I would mind loosing. The reason I keep it is so I can test different things and perhaps provide some feedback to the community. My motivation is curiosity and I have no specific needs or exceptions from Xpenology. So offence or not, a serious hacker would explain simply poletily the difficulties that he/she is encountering in trying to make a new release instead of jumping off the roof over a comment.
  4. The thing is that for some of us that have a mix of real synology hardware with xpeno things do not work together at all between two major releases I. .- i.e. : Survcillance Station, backups etc. I agree that xpenology is basically an experiment, but at some point people get tired of waiting for new releases.
  5. I accidentally updated one server (only a backup one he he!) vio online update. It is a HP N54L. Can't seem to get pas the wizard though.
  6. He won't give the password to you, because this guy likes to play "special tricks", like saying that he's leaving and that will no longer release updates, or that he would put a password on his files and let you wonder what the password might be.... check with his website. Frankly I would not want to have to deal with such a smart ass, especially when it comes to data safety. The gnoboot might be wonderful, but I do not want to depend on this kid's moods and stick with Trantor's releases.
