Hi everyone,
just a quick question, I have a RAID 1 with 2 500GB disk, yesterday the system stopped working without any advice.
I checked at the server and a disk was noising too loud so I unplugged it and restart XPE (of course with RAID degraded error).
My question is why it failed to boot if an HD failed? It was in a reboot loop until I disconnected the broken disk, after that it worked as usual until I replaced with a new disk to rebuild the RAID.

Per ridurre i consumi come ti dicevo puoi optare per un alimentatore Pico PSU che è più efficiente, se hai un alimentare di un vecchio notebook credo che puoi adattarlo per connetterlo al Pico PSU così compri solo il connettore che va alla scheda madre.
Poi potresti scegliere una scheda madre con CPU incorporata a basso consumo, be avevo lette un paio qui suo forum inglese.
Per il resto non credo che hai molti altri margini di risparmio sull'utilizzo.
Per l'hardware al solito cerca sul web dove costa meno. Se posso darti un consiglio guarda anche Amazon marketplace Che spesso ci sono pezzi usati come nuovi, sono solo stati aperti.

Allora cerco di risponderti in ordine.
- La scheda madre che ho acquistato monta già una CPU Intel J1900, è saldata quindi non sostituibile. Ha un basso consumo, se non ricordo male intorno ai 10w da non sottovalutare visto che dovrebbe rimanere acceso h24
- Alimentare ne ho acquistato uno da 350w perché a quel tempo non volevo spendere troppo. Sicuramente è sovradimensionato anche aggiungendo nel calcolo RAM, dischi, ventole ed eventuali periferiche aggiuntive. Facendo una misurazione il consumo completo sì aggira sui 30/35w.
Il case è adeguato per un alimentatore in formato standard ma se fossi in te valuterei anche un pico PSU che dovrebbe essere più efficienti.
- Compatibilità e aggiornamenti... Questa è la nota dolente. Nel senso che attualmente monto il loader 1.03b per DS3615xs e DSM 6.2 update 2.
Avevo provato in passato ad aggiornare al 6.2.2 ma non dava segni di vita, leggendo sul forum per una incompatibilità con la scheda di rete. In teoria montando una scheda di rete PCI Intel pro 1000 o simile dovrebbe funzionare.
Adesso con la versione 6.2.3 non ho ancora provato ma sto pianificando di farlo. Essendo un server utilizzato per tutte quelle funzioni non è semplice da mandare offline per tanto tempo. Sto facendo un server copia virtuale del mio PC locale.
- La videosorveglianza utilizzo Synology Surveillance Station e mi trovo molto bene.
Per risparmiare sulle licenze ho fatto una "porcata" ho acquistato un piccolo Synology Di seconda mano per metà del prezzo di due licenze e lo utilizzo con le altre due telecamere ma lo streaming lo fa il principale.
Non te lo consiglio a livello di praticità e velocità.
- Ho 4 IPCam, due sono più vecchie e non ricordo la marca. Le ultime due acquistate sono Hikvision, compatibili con Synology e standard Onvif. Trasmettono anche in H265+, come ti dicevo, e occupa pochissimo spazio sul disco. Se devi acquistarne di nuove te lo consiglio.
- A livello di stabilità nessun problema. Ad essere sincero in passato qualche problema l'ho avuto come potrai trovare cercando sul forum inglese [emoji1787] ma ho scoperto che era dovuto ad un settaggio di risparmio energetico della scheda madre. Disattivandolo dal BIOS ho risolto.
- Per quanto riguarda gli aggiornamenti vedi sopra, considera due cose. Il Nas non lo aggiorni costantemente anche perché le migliorie da un aggiornamento all'altro non sono enormi. Se lo usi come me a livello casa/azienda preferisci la stabilità all'ultimo aggiornamento.
La seconda cosa da tenere presente è che nel giro di uno o due anni (credo) uscirà la versione 7 del software che essendo una major release dovrebbe cambiare sostanzialmente ma nessuno può darti la garanzia che l'hardware che hai sia compatibile in futuro.

è quasi la stessa situazione mia!
Ormai da qualche hanno ho costruito un piccolo server sul quale gira Xpenology e mi trovo benissimo, ti spiego la mia configurazione ma considera che sono già passati almeno 3/4 anni.
Ho optato per una configurazione mini ITX economica ed esteticamente gradevole anche se adesso ho spostato il server dentro un piccolo rack.
Case: Cooler Master Elite 110
Scheda Madre: Asrock Q1900-ITX
RAM: 8GB (purtroppo su singolo banco perché il secondo slot della MB è difettoso)
HD: - 1x3TB WD RED per videosorveglianza e storage dati (meno importanti)
- 2x500GB Raid1 per le home directories, file importanti e cronologia file di Win10. - Appena posso dovrò fare un upgrade perché troppo limitato.
- 1x32GB SSD come storage dati di Docker per virtualizzare Database MSSQL, DNS Server Pi-Hole, Splunk per memorizzazione Log di rete.
Attualmente ho in funzione 2 ipcam connesse direttamente a XPenology e 2 in streaming remoto da un altro Synology originale della sede remota.
Una macchina virtuale sempre in funzione dove gira un centralino 3CX per 2/3 dect VOIP (per connettere le due sedi remote)
Se prendi delle IPCam che supportano il protocollo h265 o h265+(proprietario Hikvision) lo spazio utilizzato per le registrazioni è davvero basso.
Ho in funzione anche Active Backup for Business che funziona davvero benissimo con 5 client Win10.
Detto questo tieni presente che adesso saranno uscite altre schede madri più performanti con CPU integrata e non. Se vuoi utilizzare Video Station o Plex, che comunque a me funziona bene senza transcodifica, forse hai bisogno di un po' più CPU e comunque una che supporti la transcodifica HW e la versione di XPE basata su DS918+.

Ah dentro il NAS gira anche ps3netsrv per utilizzare i backup dei gioghi PS3 senza caricarli sull'HD della Play. 😅 Come vedi un po' di tutto!! 🤣

Hi everyone,
I would kindly ask some help, actually I have XPE working successfully on my Asrock Q1900-ITX, CPU J1900 and NIC RTL8111GR, I suppose I would have some problem to migrate from DSM 6.2-23739 Update 2 to the last 6.2.3, I would also change from DS3615xs to DS918+.
I suppose newer kernel would works better, shall I need some extra driver extension? Perhaps is better if I try everything unplugging HDs and use a new USB to boot so I can go back easily, is it right?

Try this, I don't know if it's the right solution but seems to be working for me!
1. Original version was 5.1 with Nanoboot, and was upgraded to 5.2 + Xpenoboot and than to 6.1 and changed to Jun's loader v1.02b DS3615xs
2. My box is 3615 . It was not changed.
3. I have an Asrock Q1900-ITX, so it should have a Realtek RTL8111GR network card.

4. I have 14 package installed. Not all of them are running but most of them.
Reboot and go on uefi bios settings, advanced -> CPU settings and disable "enhanced halt state (C1E)

Same problem here, it worked like a Sharm since a couple of weeks ago but I had to reinstall my dsm and now I cannot request a certificate

Same problems here, after tons of tries I decided to keep the 6.2.1 version.
I think is a problem with the internal network card and I don't want to by an extra one.
If you find a solution please let me know![emoji6]

I tried all the possible combination without success but I suppose I have a problem with my motherboard's slot 2 because now I'm having problems also with the original configuration.
I will do some more experiments with my laptop ram which is the same type and also with a Linux distro to perform a double check

Yes, just tried with just the new dimm on slot 1 and it's starts normallyDoes xpe starts if you put only new 4 GB in slot1?

It's time to upgrade my config with some more RAM, actually I have 2 x 2GB DDR according with my Asrock Q1900-itx.
I bought 1 x 4GB due to small budget so I thought to replace one of 2GB dimm and having 6GB of RAM.
If I put the new 4gb on slot 1 is not starting, if I put on slot 2 and other 2gb on slot 1 the boot start and boot the loaded but nothing happens.
XPE doesn't start and I have no idea why!!
Does someone can help me?

Thanks for your answer, there is the real MAC address on my grub, I had the problem both with static DSM address or DHCP lease. I don't think is a renewal problem because sniffing the interface there is nothing going outside from the Synology.What are the MAC address settings in your grub file? Is it set to the same as the MAC of the NIC or a 'fake' one? Is it blank?
There might be an issue with DHCP renewal, as you say the box drops connection every couple of days, maybe look at the lease time if it is about the same.
I would try setting MAC to blank in grub and setting a DHCP reservation in the router (not static in DSM), see what happens, then also try setting MAC to match the NIC and test. You could also try a static address in DSM, but make it outside of the router dhcp scope.
I just update my DSM to last release and waiting for problem showing up again,l than I will try as you suggested to leave blank on my grub file

I usually use SSH to connect to Synology so it's not a problem and it doesn't freeze do quickly but every couple of days or weeks... Very randomly!

Hi to all, I need your help to resolve my problem with XPE.
My installation consist of an Asrock Q1900 mini itx with 4GB RAM end 3 TB HD + 500GB HD, actually I have last juno's loader 1.04b DS918 but I tried all the other versions too.
It's used to record 2 ip cams, media server with Video Station and Plex and some shared folders mapped on it.
Since when I update from XPE 5.x to 6.x the server became unstable, every couple of days it loos the connection. Sniffing the network there are no packages coming out from XPE, it doesn't get the IP from the DHCP (also with static address was the same). No logs are stored during this "freezing" time and the only thing I can do is a manual reset and it's so frustrating specially when I'm out of town.
Could someone help

Puoi mappare una cartella di rete e la utilizzi come una cartella normale oppure puoi utilizzare l'applicazione drive di Synology che ti crea una cartella sincronizzata come Dropbox
