  1. Hello all, I'd liek to know if it would be possible to install a graphic ftp client on xpenology. The aim is to being able to parameter ftp sources, and, within the XPenology interfacve being able to see all the folders/files, and make them to download from the nas (and so, turning off all my pcs during transferts are processing on the xpenology server/nas) ... I have seen it is possible with command line, but that's too loud to manage. For instance, I have a server that is based on OVH, and, from the NAS, I want to see what is on that server, I want to queue all I want to download from the OVH to my NAS and after, I can turn off my computer, and the transferts are processing/running on the NAS. I've seen a lot of solution for creating an FTP server on syno/xpeno, but that is not what I'd like to have ... As it's complex to explain, in case of any questions, please feel free to ask (I'm not perfectly fluent in english). Sorry for my poor english (and it's worst in the evening ) Thanks in advance Cheers
  2. Hekki Flegarrec Thx for your feedback... You have no problem with standard functionnalities ? I think, I'll take an home-made conf for installing my future NAS, sounds not too complex, and my current Proof of concept based on an old eeePc is a quite good demonstration (if I exclude problem of frozen or CPU usage at 100% during any ~complex operation). Thx again, Stef
  3. Hello Pechi, Thanks for your answer ... I hesitate between both : buyin n54l or creating my own. The only thing I see is that for the price (~200€) is a solution that seems interesting, but when I have a look on a home-made solution, I think it'd be possible to create something more polyvalent if needed (converting videos on any format, using an HD XBMC solution, adding some functionnalities without overuse the server) and for a price just a little bit higher (my conf will cost ~260€). The price seems not bad for the proliant n54l and allow compatibility with xpenology, but for how much time will it be enough ? Is it possible to use that for streaming/transcoding 4K videos ? If I create my own NAS with the config I indicated, It'll be possible for me to add a graphic card if needed for future, I'll be able to change the CPU in the future (with an i5 if my g2030 or g3220 seems becoming limited)... That's the reason of my questions ... For a pure NAS usage, I'm sure that n54l will be enough, but what for additional functionnalities ? And why wouldn't you be confident in instalation on an home-made solution (based on intel CPU) ? Thanks again, Regards Stef
  4. Hello, Here is my second message on that forum. I'd like to create my own NAS solution, and I think I'll go with that kind of hardware : Cooler master elite 335U (5 x int 3,5"+2 x ext 3,5"+4 x ext 5,25") low price, if it is not a good box, I'll change it probably within next months LC Power Lc600H (with 6x SATA connectors) 8 Gb RAM (non ECC, I'm not professional, I don't plan to overuse my conf) from crucial in PC3-10600 (1333) CPU Intel G2030 : Its TDP is important, but for that kind of prices, I juste found it. Maybe within 1 year, I'll get to I3 or other socket 1155 CPU MotherBord Asus P8H77-M-LE (micro ATX) with 6 SATA (2 x SATA 6Gb + 4 x SATA 3Gb) and some USB 3.0 and 2.0 If need additinal SATA cards, but not now ... Wish It'll work fine with xpenology or with FreeNas in the case of ... Would you have any recommandation ? Is there anything missing on youtr opinion ? Is that kind of CPU adapted for a NAS solution on your mind ? Would that be anough for XBMC server for instance ? (Or Plex solution, that I think it's less evolutive) I have my own disks that I want to put on that server : 1 x 2,5" 500Gb that I'd like to use for storing the OS 2 x 3,5" 1 To (not similar HDDs) 2 x 3,5" 2 To (similar disks : WD) 1 x 2,5" 250 Gb Some could be connected via USB for backing up (ie. : in the case I have some personal videos at home that I want to put on USB for family). Thanks in advance Regards Stef
  5. Hello, I tried it directly, and it worked quite fine ... The Atom n450 is enough for being a nas cpu, but really not enough for managing videos via plex or video station. I'll keep my eeepc as a second nas just for storing some shared folders (family documents, etc.), and I'll probably create my own NAS. I think I'll go with that kind of hardware : Cooler master elite 335U (5 x int 3,5"+2 x ext 3,5"+4 x ext 5,25") low price, if it is not a good box, I'll change it probably within next months LC Power Lc600H (with 6x SATA connectors) 8 Gb RAM (non ECC, I'm not professional, I don't plan to overuse my conf) from crucial in PC3-10600 (1333) CPU Intel G2030 : Its TDP is important, but for that kind of prices, I juste found it. Maybe within 1 year, I'll get to I3 or other socket 1155 CPU MotherBord Asus P8H77-M-LE (micro ATX) with 6 SATA (2 x SATA 6Gb + 4 x SATA 3Gb) and some USB 3.0 and 2.0 Wish It'll work fine with xpenology or with FreeNas in the case of ... 6. Hello, I'm new here and I'm interested in testing xpenology before probably buying a syno ds solution (or a n54l dedicated ... ???). For beginning I tested it on a virtual box machine, but that's not significant enough, and I don't want to let my PC on all day and night. But that let me see UI and feel and look, and that seems really efficient, easy to use, etc. Now, what I would like to do is : installing it on my old eeepc that I use rarely now. It has an atom n450 that should be enough for a nas solution (in testing period at least). Here are my questions, wish someone here could help ... : - Is there a way to install xpenology on a usb key (all the os on a usb key, not only booting from a usb key to install it after on an HDD) ?. Why I want that ? : - Because I would like to keep my current system on my eeepc hdd (windows started edition) : I use it when I go on vacations for example - Because, Even if I change the hdd, I'd like it to be used only for storing data and not for using system - Because I'd like to keep my fast boot asus functionnality that allows to boot really quickly on a chromium browser and some other tools - Would that configuration be enough on your opinion ? There's only 1Gb RAM and 1 HDD + 3 USB (so 1 for booting, and other for other usage, backing up, or for copying nas data on a external drive) - Any recommandations ? My eeepc is 1005pe : http://www.lesnumeriques.com/ordinateur-portable/asus-eee-pc-1005pe-p8182/caracteristiques.html Sorry for my poor english, I'm a french guy, and I'm not used to write message in english (at least not since some years), so if you need any details, please feel free to ask me, and if some things are not clear in my message also I think that kind of distribution is really extraodinary !! I enjoy to think it exists, and forza xpenology !! (and synology !!! ) Thanks in advance, Kind regards Stef
