  1. On a NL40L i reach 55-75 mb/s on samba share using single disks...
  2. I would say same as the hardware it is copied from, RS3413xs is a 12hdd enclosure http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=516 RS3413xs+ Repack supports 10 disks max so at least 10
  3. did that to me when i installed two app managing usb tuners (video station, tvheadend, dvb link)
  4. Hi, 1) Drivers are included. works or doens't. it'a whole OS. will replace windows entirely 2) it could boot from IDE but not on N40l. maybe a minute to boot. If it is a NAS, that's irrelevant, as it will hardly be shutdown 3)I use the N40l files and work well (add usb mod files for usb2/3 support) 4) No. Look the same as DSM 4.1 Have configured sickbeard to download TV series as they come out using free usenet server http://xsusenet.com/, so cna say the box work well Need to try imaging with http://www.nclone.com/getting-started/
  5. Clever... Thanks for sharing the tips
  6. This is a beautiful port, but no forum response garantee is given. Production environment? buy a Synology NAS. The offitial synology support have a legal obligation to offer a product fit for purpose and to provide assistance
  7. http://smallhacks.wordpress.com/2012/04 ... -devttys1/ He "was able to find full list of the available commands in the source tarball in the libsynosdk/gpl/synosdk/external.h" “scemd” closed-source daemon seem to be able to be queried, so we may avoid having to fake a com port for this

  9. According http://www.synology.com/support/beta_dsm4.1.php kernel is 3.2.11. The errors point to (global) variables not defined: . "syno_libata_port_power_ctl" . "syno_libata_index_get" According http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=44%20says:, the make path is: . make ARCH=x86_64 CROSS_COMPILE=/home/youruser/syno/x86_64-linux-gnu/bin/x86_64-linux-gnu- Try to search for this variable and see where it is defined Not sure your path is right... But i reach the end of my knowledge here unfortunately...
  10. http://n40l.wikia.com/wiki/Memory I put 2x4gb advanced ecc before it was known that 2x8gb was possible Never using more than 20% ram BUT processor can be used 50% by DLNA streaming when adding file extentions, and 100% for resizing pictures by the photo station. i think because the Original hardware ram is limited, it by default doesn't use much... don't thing you will gain anything above 2/4gb...
  11. if you include a wish list, please include a link to the driver source code or it will be pointless. We are lucky if Andy behind XPEnology add hardware, but he's not gonna write the driver without the hardware to test... He could if somebody included the source compile it and include the *.ko kernel driver module in next release, but may allready be busy as it is... 12. internal NIC work for me on my N40l. which XPEnology file name did you try ?
  13. Have been using it on my N40L with hacked bios and network speed is good. Disk 1 /dev/sda1 + sda2 Vertical disk bay on the left Disk 2 /dev/sdb Disk 3 /dev/sdc Disk 4 /dev/sdd Vertical disk bay on the right Disk 5 /dev/sde Esata port Disk 6 /dev/sdf1 onboard sata for the optical drive, can be changed to esata with small profile sata to esata bracket USB internal /dev/sdu1 + sdu2 USB key internal port 10TB seen as 2tb only with fdisk but storage manager ok. after removing proactive mbr partition, usb drive see storage, but would prefer sata speed. "fdisk -l" to see partition table "mkdir /mnt/ntfs " "mount -t ntfs /dev/sdf1/ /mnt/ntfs" gives "mount: mounting /dev/sdf1/ on /mnt/ntfs failed: No such device" On my previous DS207+ with front esata port, was recognised ok... http://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=42172 Anybody knows how to declare the port 5 and 6 as external ports ?
  14. Works On VMware Player 5.1 . Opened the OVF template, saved the VM were it belongs. . Changed bridge mode to host only since my Alienware M11x use mainly wifi and don't have wifi at work nor wired connection. . Used Synology assistant to connect, configured password, ip, gateway . Refreshed synology assistant, connected ok . created volume, good to use... Thanks a lot for the template, it makes it easier to test, Gigabit NIC e1000 is on by default.
  15. wake on lan doesn't work on my N40L. don't forget you need wake on lan cable for additional nic (3 bin cable) although pcie slots might have used the "power from pcie" bios settigns to get arround...
  16. Isn't the first one entered the default? if not, then alphabetical order may be used... If not i have no ideas
  17. DS210j seem to use that network port but not an intel processor http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/networking/display/synology-ds210j-ds410j_3.html It should be possible to compile the source code for the DS210j and cross compile it for the x86 proc platform to have the required mod file inserted on the usb key from a linux boot cd... Don't have enough level to assist further however...
  18. Hi All, Finally got around to test, and truly enough, it works. You test that the nic is detected with "Synology Assistant" but installing means wiping the first disk... . Prepared a USB key with the img written on it. didn't modded it with the mac address . Connected it and went in the bios to but the usb key first in the disk boot sequence . Booted from it then removed it after it has booted . Used synology assistant to install the *.pat DSM_DS3612xs_2668.pat . after install, put back the USB key, booted and voila Added afterwards the usb2 modules and while the camera still worked, it now showed my USB Stick. I tried the logitech orbit webcam, but two playstation eye fail to work, complaining about no serial number... I tried two usb tuners, but they failed to capt anything under video station and no tuner detected under TVHeadEnd
  19. how about installing under virtualbox (or VMware player, i succeeded this morning) as it is hardware independant meaning the hardware virtualised will be the same under all OS, so it short, it will work since both work for me presently. Anyhow, i understand after seeing a picture of this nice box, the need to run as native OS, it's a nice box Please indicate model or Vendor ID+ product ID of supported network card, would help greatly. Also there is a couple versions and you didn't indicate which one you used. NIC seem to be from Marvell. Documenting well allow to help further people having the same issue, and make answering easier.... Miracle! Our lord and savior Andy928 compiled the 22 january a version [XPEnology DS3612xs DSM 4.1 build 2668++] with Marvell network drivers compiled, and a list of all NIC compiled in the first post. Thanks Any928, good documented post, unlike.... well you see where this is going... So your post created the 25th january have a technical answer... Brilliant!!!! Since you couldn't find the release posted 3 days before yours with clear indication of the NIC drivers compiled, here it is: http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=41. Long live Andy928! Since i answered the most precisely possible, don't think the poster will mind, actually don't care, feel good to help and bitch. Double win !!!
  20. Since you are in this thread, i will thank you as well. I found few things after installing under VMware thanks to the ++version with more hardware compiled... 23. Hi All, since i'm not good at recompiling drivers (USB webcam driver for monitoring station please ?) i can at least document my trials to share (a little) something... Also logged separatly the errors encountered, to avoid newbie questions VMWare Player 5.0.1 install with XPEnology DS3612xs DSM 4.1 build 2668++: . Enabled "Virtualization support" in BIOS, otherwise no 64 bit support for the VM . Installed "VMWARE Player" . In VMWare Player VM settings, removed CD, Floppy, Added serial port . In VMWare Player VM settings, added USB 2.0 controller (could be fun to test USB 3.0 is such a port is present, and to test performance) . In VMWare Player VM settings, ticked in Settings > Processor "Virtualize Intel VT-s/EPT or AMD-V/RVI" and "Virtualize CPU Performance Counters" (Have i5 processor) . In VMWare Player VM settings, Configured NIC as bridge mode or HostOnly + Configured DNS for virtual NIC as the NIC IP (192.168.206.1 by default) and use Mac address: 00:11:32:08:D6:2A . In VMWare Player VM Folder "C:\Users\Admin\Documents\Virtual Machines\XPEnology" i have added in file "XPEnology.vmx" the entry: ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000e" and you will have gigabit speed instead of 100MB detected as 0 in control panel > network > Netowrk Interface : network status . In VMWare Player VM settings, created an IDE disk 2TB size (64GB is too small, SCSI Fails formating) but my SSD size was 64GB, no pb there . Used "StarWind V2V Image Converter" to convert IMG to VMDK and did a copy of the vmdk (usefull if getting error 22 on boot after failed install, always keep a good backup file) . Loaded VMDK file as IDE . Used "Synology Assistant" (doesn't work with XPEnology web interface directly despite the possibility to load *.pat file) scanned, then right-click>install, and loaded xpenology *.pat file, and got Error 22 at re-boot as expected . restored VMDK from backup, installation continued . Install Finished, and it is working. Thanks again for this great package Tips, errors encountered + Fix: . The IDE 200MB VMDK disk will be recognised as well, so the raid won't be automatically created . After install attempt, error 22 at the console after boot-up. restore VMDK from backup keeping a good backup still . Went http://192.168.206.128:5000 and selected to "install DSM from my computer or installation disk" but got an error "An error occurred during installation. The telnet service of Diskstation is turned ON for error determination. Please configure your router to forward port 23 to Diskstation, and then contact synology online support. (21)". AND "Synology Assistant" gave partition format error and Error 22 at re-boot. Disk size was too small (used 64GB. 2000GB was subsequently ok). . Originally, I didn't put the MAC address "00113208D62A"in "VMWare Player" and it still worked. Apparently, it's only needed if you have more than one instance of a synology OS on the network . Try to use IDE disk format, it's not recognised for the HSR raid as expected...[/code] [EDIT]Bonus!!!! I tried an intel atom package for USB webcam: https://dl.dropbox.com/s/4qludm9rf5k079j/webcam-intel-41.zip?dl=1 Source: http://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic.php?f=190&t=49790&start=150 I needed to reboot, time out half the time when launching the webcam module, but can show the video using webcam application. 24. Hi Andy928, Simply.... Thanks you and all involved in making this possible. It seemed fair to have a release as they used open source software for most of the OS, and somehow released source code, but late and seemingly incomplete. The door possibly got open with Qnology and then XPEnology I did try to make Synology DSM work in a VM and Virtualbox since it supported Sata disks and VMware didn't was a good contender, and also considered Qemu as it could emulate ARM seemingly... Always ended up with a non booting Vm... But never tried recompiling the kernel... Anyhow the DOM is just an IDE flash disk so OLD IDE disks on motherboards allowing to put the disk in read only mode (yes, it does exist) could be of use Or cutting mayber IDE Pin 23 /IOW Write Strobe)... But it is usable unplugging the usb, and the Proliand Microserver N40l have an internal USB slot for usb key, so will try this evening Nevertheless, thanks you for making that possible. I hope many will join me to thank you Kind regards, Benjamin
  25. I have the hacked bios for the optical port and AHCI, so it supports hot plug. Will try to use usb key and see if the network is detected ok.
