  1. Hi there, assuming one would have an original Synology USB flash module where the DSM is hosted, can that be transferred to another PC and then booted? (It could simply be connected to any mainboard USB 2.0 socket) Every synology box has a usb flash like this hosting the DSM:
  2. Short question. Background: I did an update with Nanoboot 5.0.2.2 yesterday directly from Trantors beta 5, very easy. Web-GUI said its migrateable and I chose Migration (keep files and most of the settings). I assume clean installation (keep your files) would have led to a swipe of the hard drives. Uploaded original pat file and it works without additional adjustments. Maybe that helps some people. Question: In the pic you'll see that the little one as a reminder of an update did not disappear. Upon checking, it says, latest version installed. Why doesnt the red 1 disappear?
  3. Unfortunately most Synology solutions are underpowered in CPU for plex transcoding. The 3612 might do the job (price tag of 3k), but even that is borderline. If they would only offer smth with more power in the consumer field.
  4. It takes a lot less work to actually read the thread I did read the whole thread, no one posted anything on trying this as a fresh install. Everyone is trying to upgrade from 4452 version. But ya, I guess it was worth it to post a comment to read the thread. Cause we don't ask questions here, we are only reading...
  5. so completely new installation with gnoboot 10.5 and 4482 does work? Its a bit of work to backup the data and fill the nas afterwards, but can be done if the above is a workaround...
  6. That cant be right, if more than one volume present on separate drives and you delete volume 1 and pull respective drives out, system still starts, cause it is on EVERY drive independent from volumeX.
  7. funny, also i dont get hibernation to work in DSM 5. Other here claim it works. Would be nice to find out why hibenration doesnt work, rather than downgrading
  8. so just to clarify: you guys dont use the script (sync; /usr/syno/bin/synousbdisk -umount sdq; >/tmp/usbtab) at all to eject the system usb stick, it just works for you in DSM5?
  9. Does the Hibernation work for you guys? I cannot get this to work, everything else is fine in DSM5beta I tried the script sync; /usr/syno/bin/synousbdisk -umount sdq; >/tmp/usbtab but after reboot i ejects the usb, and only 20sec it mounts it again automatically. No idea whats wrong here.
  11. Question for the hibernation in this release - I dont get it to work. Following the guides here, i do the following: 1. create new script S99ZZZ_USB_eject.sh: sync; /usr/syno/bin/synousbdisk -umount sdu1; >/tmp/usbtab (checked if sdu1 really is my USB drive) 2. copy it in the /usr/syno/etc/rc.d directory 3. give it the execute permission When i reboot the system and look in the log file, it says right after startup that USB1 was ejected. So far so good, apparently only if the USB1 drive is ejected, the sytem can hibernate. But, only 20sec later log shows: USB1 was mounted. Every time i reboot the system, I have no clue why. Some help here how to get hibernation to work? Cheers Y
  12. Plex is a separate user, so why do you have a plex folder under "home" - that is supposedly your admin account right? See screenshot above. Under users you should have admin, guest , and plex.
  13. look two posts above, forget for ssh or any start-stop-status. post again when two posts above does not work. its pretty simple and everything to be done using the DSM GUI only.
  14. Hi guys, short question, did anyone came across this "error" already: I am running 3x3TB, 1x2TB, adn 1x80GB, when using SSH/fdisk -l, the following is the output: DiskStation> fdisk -l fdisk: device has more than 2^32 sectors, can't use all of them Disk /dev/sda: 2199.0 GB, 2199023255040 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 267349 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 1 267350 2147483647+ ee EFI GPT fdisk: device has more than 2^32 sectors, can't use all of them Disk /dev/sdb: 2199.0 GB, 2199023255040 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 267349 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdb1 1 267350 2147483647+ ee EFI GPT fdisk: device has more than 2^32 sectors, can't use all of them Disk /dev/sdc: 2199.0 GB, 2199023255040 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 267349 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdc1 1 267350 2147483647+ ee EFI GPT Disk /dev/sde: 80.0 GB, 80026361856 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 9729 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sde1 1 311 2490240 fd Linux raid autodetect Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary /dev/sde2 311 572 2097152 fd Linux raid autodetect Partition 2 does not end on cylinder boundary Disk /dev/sdf: 2000.3 GB, 2000398934016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 243201 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdf1 1 311 2490240 fd Linux raid autodetect Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary /dev/sdf2 311 572 2097152 fd Linux raid autodetect Partition 2 does not end on cylinder boundary /dev/sdf3 588 243201 1948788912 f Win95 Ext'd (LBA) /dev/sdf5 589 243201 1948780864 fd Linux raid autodetect Disk /dev/sdu: 15.7 GB, 15770583040 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 1917 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdu1 * 1 2 16033+ 83 Linux Questions: 1. Why is the 3TB drive (all of them have the same output) not properly initialized, with only 2199 GB? 2. Why has the 2TB drive 4 partitions, and the other HDDs only 1 Partition? The 2TB drive is the last in the chain, on MB at SATA6. Thanks.
  15. Sorry guys, still trying to figure out what script S99ZZZ.sh above is doing. Why "put the attached file (S99ZZZ_Shutdown.rar) to /usr/syno/etc/rc.d/ and give the file execuable permission"??? Anyone?

  17. What exactly is the script S99ZZZ.sh doing? Does WOL works without this script, just by enabling it with "g" as described above?

  19. you can just setup a folder "Plex" in the file station and set user permissons under "users" (read-write permission for user plex for the Plex folder. Absolutely no need to use ssh for this or to use the start-stop procedure. I had the same issue (plex not running), I installed the latest plex package manually (plex pass required), and added Plex folder and subfolders (as they would have been set up automatically using the 4.3 or lower version). Apparently in the beta 5 version the Plex folder and subfolders are not setup automatically when installing the plex package, thats why the package doesnt run. If you skip the subfolders (as displayed below), Plex package might run, but in my case the videos (in transcode mode) didn't play with a client (M3U8 error). They only played when adding the transcode subfolder. Like this:
  20. Hello, I was wondering, is it possible that the DSM 5 beta supports an onboard wifi PCEe card (ac)? Can I use the wifi card instead of LAN cable? Board is an ASROCK Z87E-ITX (http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z87E-ITX/) Wifi PCIe model here: https://wikidevi.com/wiki/Broadcom_BCM94352HMB Linux driver (64/bit) for the PCIe card here: http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php
  21. So would it make sense to install from a USB stick and use a dedicated small SSD as 'system drives' - to install all the applications/packages? This way, whenever there is a reinstall or whatever, all settings and applications of DSM would be on the SSD, independent from the Storage HDDs. Also, would there be any performance increase suing a small SSD as system drive?
  22. Apologies, i have to reply to my own post - seems my BIOS was not-up-to-date, that caused the instabilities. Nothing to do with XPEnology.
  23. Hi, is this version stable for you? I installed this version fresh from USB (no VMWare) and a fresh system. My Board is an ASRock Z87 ITX, with an Intel NIC. Somehow the system goes every few min in an unproper shutdown and restarts automatically. When i transfer a file of 15GB, i writes from the Windows PC with around 10 MB/s (isnt that a bit slow?) and looses connection every 1-2min, till it finally fails after 4-5min, because the sytem experienced an "unproper shutdown" ??? Any ideas as to why this is, or someone else experiencing this? I reckon the Intel NIC shut be fine, or does that require special drivers? Meaning if it works, it shut work constantly, right? Sorry this are my first trials and so far it is not stable at all. Thanks Y.
  24. Hi there, thought I high-jack this thread: I am running the DSM 5 beta, fresh install and struggling whole morning to get Plex to run. I installed Plex, but it doesnt start automatically; after pressing run it gives an error message with "failed to run". I followed advise here, uninstalled, deleted all plex files and folders with WinSCP, reinstalled phyton and plex, also other packages. Failed. All packages are running, but plex wouldnt. Manual install of plex from plex.tv website doesnt work etiher, as it seems the synology software for plex is 0.9.8.19, whereas under plex.tv/synology/intel the software is 0.9.18.18. Any ideas what i am overlooking here? Aja, I am running a ASRock Z87 ITX with i7 4770T, not a HP N54L as this thread suggests.
  25. thanks for the replies all. Appreciate it. Can give the last one a try, but unfortunately the file is gone. Anyone knows where to get it? Y.
